Direct link (don't attach! ) two or three of your drawings you think are the best you've done this year, 2005, and write a description why you like it so much/you think it is very well done. It would be nice if everybody can see each other's preference when it comes to their own style. Smile Two or Three would be nice, but go crazy on things like pixel art, they don't take too much bandwidth...

I'll start.

[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/Brianhjh/Thumb8.jpg[/img]
February 26th, 2005

-I like this because it got me out of a long dry spell, and it's one of my first gouache picture and I had no idea how to use it. I like the texture on the skin, that just came out of nowhere when I was just playing around... Even to this day, I can't reproduce that effect. There are a lot of mistakes since even though it was drawin this year, I'd still consider this as one of my older works :o

[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/Brianhjh/Thumb11.jpg[/img]
September 11th 2005.

-I had a very little hope for this drawing when it was during the preliminary stage, so I thought I would just color it with markers and pencil crayons and get it over with, but in the end, the drawing became surreal, with its lifeless glow and the subject's enlarged pupil. I can't quite put a finger on what feeling this picture create, gloomy?

[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/Brianhjh/Thumb12.jpg[/img]
November 20th 2005

-I screwed up on the face over and over and over. I seem to forget that it's extremely hard to put a light pencil crayon on dark surface and expect it to cover it all. The face looked extremely bland and out of synch with the background. So in a desperate measure, I put down light peach pencil crayon in all areas around the face, put dark blue marker on top of them, and washed them away with a cloth of alcohol. The blue ink got imbedded on specks of paper that wasn't covered by the wax and created such effect, I like it. Smile furthermore, I was in for depressing pictures in November.

So what can you tell us about your favorite works? :0

March 2005

This was huge for me. I really wanted to learn to draw hair well, and I thought this picture would be a perfect start! It took forever, but I think it turned out really well.

July 2005

This is what happened when I was stuck at my grandmother's house on a ninety degree day. Having my trusty copy of Faeries with me, sketched a sketch from it. I'm proud of this one because in the end it looked really nice, despite me not measuring anything to get the proportions right.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=333720
October-November 2005

After taking a huge break in portraits, I decided to do something huge, and this was the result. Again, it started out as a doodle, so I didn't measure everything correctly, but I like it anyway. I think it's the best portrait I've ever done, even with all the little mistakes. And I stopped being lazy with the mechanical pencil and used a 6B to get some black in there, which helped a lot.

I feel inferior...

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=207235

Sometime in April, I like it because it's one of those picture you start out doodling but turn out better than you expected. I never intended, heck I never thought I'd ever be putting this up. Although it seemed a bit squished to me, it's the best picture in the manga/anime category that I actually stuck to and saw through to the end.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=286306

I love first attempts. I'm just playing favorites and, while the lineart is nothig to brag about, it was my first time at photoshop that I actually posted (my second attempt at photoshop actually) and I just feel attracted to it.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=333940

Although messily done, I put a lot of effort into the costume and the overall design. I've never spent so much time on a picture. I'm not the most creative of minds and I never bother with costumes, so it wa s surprise I saw this through to the end.

Hrm. Since I work with a mix of colored pencils and CG, guess I'll go with the best from both categories, as well as a mixture of the two.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=216242
May 2005

Drawn by hand and colored with my Prismacolor colored pencils. I love how soft the leads are and how easily they blend - I really can't see myself going back to the old hard-leaded pencils I used to use. This is by no means my most technically accurate picture (the proportions make me cry), but it's one of my more imaginative and I think the coloring's pretty good, especially considering how much black I had to work with.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=232783
June 2005

This was done from start-to-finish on my computer. I'd only figured out how to actually [i]draw[/i] with my tablet a month or so earlier, even though I'd had the thing for well over half a year (yes, I am stupid ._.), and I love how it came out. Heck, I still like it a lot - I like the color scheme especially.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=294690
September 2005

Haha, me and my huge pictures and my dark elf obsession. Sorry. o_o; This is definitely my favorite out of all the pictures I've completed this year. I drew the lineart by hand, then scanned the inked version and colored it via Photoshop and tablet. The lineart is distinctly different from my usual style, but it's still very much 'me'. The colors and lighting came out well, and I'm just overall very pleased by this new take on a rather old character of mine.

Ah, the very reason why I don't bother checking the WIP or Photos threads... my poor modem can't handle all these images.... <_<

When it's a picture available in your FAC (or dA) gallery, could you guys please provide a URL to the picture page instead of using the IMG tag. It's not that you said to provide the images, but rather that [i]everyone[/i] is crowding their posts with 3 images at a time... too much for a low-bandwidth user. I don't know if you'll appreciate me hunting up the pics for all you guys, but I replaced them with URL's to conserve space.

Yeah, I did. And some of the pics I actually didn't need to hunt for, they were linked directly from the FAC picture server and took only seconds to convert into FAC page links.

Rather than linking to the page or telling people to direct link images like Brian did, I would have made 50x50px thumbnails and linked to the images with those, instead. I know the agony of having a slow connection, so thumbs are the best way to go - they create a bit of interest and they don't kill computers, either. :3

You know what? I DO have thumbnails in photoshop since I also post at Allfanarts.com (French FAC) I'll do that :3

http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-296407.html

Drawn: June 23-26, 05. Turned into a Christmas Gift for my friend Madison cause she was moving to San Diego.

What I love about this picture is the shading. That's what took the two extra days. I used a blending stick (That my friend took. >< They don't sell those anymore at the local artshop!) And I admit, she helped me with the shading on the face. I was actually just trying to work on the folds, but the hand holding her skirt evolved into this. It's based on the idea my mum gave me (She worked in Vegas as a card dealer) about how she would watch the shows and how they dressed. She commented that one of the girls she worked with said, "You should really be a show girl, it's nothing but a life of luxury." but my mum said she couldn't because she was leaving to California because she was pregnant with my sister.

What I don't like about the picture is the face. Her nose, eyes, and lips. The eye's I wanted to make more realistic, and the nose maybe not so pointed. Her other side of her face just curves in and ends too, if you look at her eye. Her gith elbow is also waay too pointy and I think the arm is a bit short. The part I love about this most is feathers, though some of them could use some work.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-296441.html

Drawn: May 12, birthday gift for a friend. Scanned it before I gave it to her, it was even featured on my school website (Before we did the 05-06 website.)

What I love about this is the shading is much smoother on this than that of the picture above. The wings came out great, though I hate drawing them. You can see there's a place where they fade out a bit. The hair is the part I love most about. It came out really well, I was surprised. As you can tell by the comments, I don't watch Sailor moon much anymore cause I named her Rini, not Chibi. Uneasy

http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-296397.html

Drawn: October 2nd.

It was just originially a sketch of hair, and it evolved from hair into a very badly drawn face with a new style. I know she's tiny - she's anorexic at this stage in her life. And I know her hands are a bit pointy. The shading is again, the reason I like this. And the clothes I picked for her - vines and such. Very weird, then again, I'm a weird person. The white spaces behind her are supposed to be lightning strikes. If you look closely, you'll see the lines for the lightning and that the shading around it is the electricity. In the top corner, you can also see a bit of yellowish/white sticking threw the darkness around her. Stars. I loved the background for this, even if it didn't look like rain very much.

I didn't do fuck all this year, improvement wise. Except for speed.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18325429/

Uh...it's a painting. Almost the only thing I like from painting class, and it wasn't even an assignment, just using up leftover paint. I've never been good about talking about my own stuff. May something.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/14472650/

As if I need to point it out, most of my stuff involving people is very tight and detailed. And I like it that way, I'd be Nimra if I could, but...nothin' wrong with going the other way too, especially considering 90% of my subjects are such colorful people. So I like it for that. And the fact it's Taime. January.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/25120439/

My current favorite pencil/charcoal portrait of the year. Of course, I'm probably still in a rather biased state of mind about it, but it's probably the technically best as well. Maybe. Ah well, pretty level playing field among them, and I did way more painting and ink this year than I did charcoal, so there's not much to choose from either. November.

Yeeeeeah, I have a love/hate relationship with 2005. Rather disappointing. Oh well.

Eh...I've improved a lot since summer (actually...I'm even amazed I'm progressing quickly enough....), though I've been dissapointed with the results of quite a few things I did. Then again, I guess a majority of amateur artists are lke that anyways. Doesn't mean I don;t have favorites though. XD

http://www.deviantart.com/view/25586047/ -Well, it's dark...not much to say about it other than I managed to do at least a somewhat mixed media thing...

http://www.deviantart.com/view/25588732/ -original is much, much better than this picture. This one...has bad constrasts that just can't be corrected perfectly in photoshop. I like the colors though, and was my first oil pastel drawing. Started out as an experimentation until I added more to it.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/24048608/ -yet another crap quality picture, and the original obviously looks better than this. Man, I have so many resources out of reach that I need...it is one of my favorite pieces, and another oil pastel drawing. Always wanted to do the aurora and I'm a bit surprised I even accomplished in making it look like one.

Now for my top three of the year... this will be a hard choice to make.

[img]http://thumbs.fanart-central.net/thumb.php?pid=227860&bgcolor=FFFFFF&.jpg[/img]
This turned out to be my best (and, as of yet, still most recent) use of inversion. I think that part of the reason why it turned out so well is because it was a second try at the same character (compare with the first), meaning that I could look back at my previous attempt, see what went wrong, and take appropriate measures to fix it. I didn't apply very heavy shading to this, and that turned out a great move after the inversion - the vivid colors, the contrast, and those eyes are just plain piercing.

[img]http://thumbs.fanart-central.net/thumb.php?pid=240342&bgcolor=FFFFFF&.jpg[/img]
An attempt at some Spyro fanart, but in the style of my elemental dragons, rather impressive results. I still love the ice one most of all, which is why I set it as my avvie.

[img]http://thumbs.fanart-central.net/thumb.php?pid=309860&bgcolor=FFFFFF&.jpg[/img]
Though I say nothing of the sort in the description, I actually consider this a representation of myself and my inspiration (did you note he's left-handed? So am I), an avatar character, a muse. I can tumble ideas around in my head all day, but without a sense of inspiration or a 'need' to do something, it just falls away to the side (like the half-written sheets of paper shown lying on the ground) and nothing becomes of it. I could wax philosophical over this one for hours.

Kai
I like this one because of the shading. It's dull, but I still like it. Plus, I did it when we could still afford to send me to art class. So it's kind of a sad memory too...

Dain
This one I like because he's my first orrigional character that I'm actually going to keep. And the shading I think is good too. And I finally figures out my way of drawing scales and stuff. Happiness.

Haru
This one is my favorite. Geuss why... cuz of the realism. It was my second attempt at it, and I think it turned out extreemly well. My art teacher at school is going to take it to the state competition this year. ^_^ *is proud* I would appreciate it if someone would tell me what they think of it. I'm not getting ANY comments at all from the Haru fans. *sighs* Sad

[img]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/VR_Jay/Urban_Ninja_Girl_by_VR_Jay.jpg[/img]

I like this one for several reasons. First off, I love the stuff done by Eight, and his little Urban ninja Girl flash cartoons are the sex, so I had to do a fan pic. The color scheme mirrors his, in that the animation consists of red lines on a black background, with some white here and there, and I think I handled it well. I also enjoy the pose, it is very much the old-school samurai ink brush painting done in my own little style.

[img]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/VR_Jay/Rei_Shivah_by_VR_Jay.jpg[/img]

Man, where do I start with this one. I usually don't draw anthros, but after I watched the videos for the new Elder Scrolls game, I got the urge to draw a Khajiit. First of all, I feel this is a great example of my avid attempts to improve my cartoon style. I love the cell shade-ish layers of light and shadow, as do I like the drawing itself. The background is a picture which I nearly completely altered in Photoshop. The light source in the original photo is from a completely different angle, and I even switched up some of the coloring. I think I have about ten different versions of this on my hard drive; this is the one I liked best.

[img]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/VR_Jay/Baby__Baby_Doll_by_VR_Jay.jpg[/img]

Wow, I spent over seven hours on this one (not all at once). Charcoal, pretty much. It's a hand holding one of those plastic baby doll, drew it from a photograph. The actual piece is about 4 ft x 5 ft. Was going for realism here, and I think I pulled it off really well. I'm proud of this one, what can I say?

I am tired, so I may post some more later, but not right now.

05 has been my year. xD I think I've made more pictures than I ever have before. I haven't really had any flames, but this of course was the first year for many things. My entire gallery seems to be from 05 xD So these are my top gallery pics, basicly xD

Anyway, xD Just for everyone's info, I'm completely a FAC only artist.

I'd like everyone to take the fact that I don't have a scanner and I use a digital camera into account when they look at my stuff. ;3 Ok..

ok.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=211424

Ok, now this is a pretty old pic, but the reason I like it so much, it was the start of my love for this character. Called trickmaster, nothing more nothing less. Anyway, I've been pretty much addicted to him. And this picture is one of the best due to the fact that there is show much "magic" in it. If you catch the drift. xD

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=253456

This is the first pic that I ever did in this style which is almost completely different from my orginal style. It's unique in the fact how i start it. I start with the chin and then do everything else from that. The chin is like the center of the picture, but when it's finished it blends in as if it wasn't the exact point of starting. and it gives a realistic twist to the anime style that I have.

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=330158

This is a picture of one of my rp characters, but the reason why I pic this as one of my best is the fact of the mirror image (though it's not exactly perfect) it's still awesome none the less.

The flower is completely awesome from behind and that's why it's one of my best pics.

There are actually pics I consider better, but because of other reasons, I won't link. :3

Air Dragon
My first time coloring with my new Prismacolor Pencil set. I decided to go with the no outline look and love what happened with it.

Pegasus
Just getting the horse's shape right was difficult, but well worth it to achieve the final result.

Jak
I don't usually do fanart, but when I tried, I found out that I am not half bad at it at all. I love how this pic turned out.
