I saw a demo stand of the 360 (game: Call of Duty 2) at a Hollywood Video's Game Crazy. Frankly, I was not impressed with it. Two "nah"s out of five. Seriously, it may be HD graphics and 1080p, but apparently someone forgot to switch on the 360's anti-aliasing, I was seeing pixel-sharp edges (and did I ever mention I hate that?)

Nintendo draws flak with their announcement to [i]not[/i] support HD (meaning 480p is the highest resolution you'll get), but with full-scene antialiasing in effect, I doubt that's a problem. Lower rendering resolution means less work, fewer pixels for the console's GPU to produce! Which can mean a faster, more reliable framerate, and/or more processing power available to do non-graphics related computing chores.

There's only one new console I'm looking forward to, myself -- yep, Nintendo's Revolution. Not just because I'm a Nintendo fan, not because Sony's PSP put the "port" in "portable" ( Razz

), but because Nintendo appears to be the only one of the three who is attempting to take the art of gaming to the next generation.

The 360 and the PS2? Hell no, those are just the next generation of [i]hardware[/i] and the next generation of games. They're not trying to usher in a new generation of possibilities or interactivity (or, for that matter, new gamers) like Nintendo is.

Nintendo's choice of tossing out the "conventional" controller shape doesn't strike me as a case of going off the deep end, but more like an artist who's finished a work and decided to start working on something entirely new and afresh.

Maybe that's why I admire them, because I try to do something new and afresh with each new drawing I make.

I think that the people on this site/channel are leaning towards the PS3 more than anything.

I don't trust G4TV much farther than I can toss the TV remote. I watch X-Play and Cinematech sometimes, but that's about it.

You people forgot one main reasons it's being recalled, there weren't any fans in the consoles. EDIT: There wasn't a heat sink is what I meant to say.

Nah, Sony Won't. Though when the PS3 is released, it'll be considered a huge flop, then four years later at Christmas time, people will be killing eachother to get one of them for their kids.

I haven't heard too much about it.

But after reading this thread, well, I'd consider getting one even less than I was before. That'd be about a 0.5% chance.

I did hear that it has this huge processor or graphics thing... and then the PS3 doubled it. Laughing

I think most people with common sense would wait for the PS3.

I have personnally asked my wife to whack me in the head with something very heavy the day I blow half a thousand dollars to play video games.

Honestly, beyond all the questions of which new console is really "the next generation", it looks to me like Nintendo is the only one that stops and asks themselves "do we need this or not?" instead of "is this bigger than whatever the other consoles have?". It's like people who are proud their cars can go up to 250 km/h, and it only cost them 50% more than any car that can go up "only" to 175 km/h. Congratulations. It's not as if you'd ever need it, but congratulations.

Your analogy doesn't exactly apply to the situation. Consoles are powerful, and while many video games don't take advantage of what they can do, some games [i]do[/i]. Take RE4, for example. Besides, that's how the corporations work. They want money, so their products have to be better than their competitor's, whether they actually "need" it or not, like you mentioned. I can't even start to explain how so many people I've seen base the quality of a product on specs. It's not like the specs are really that important, but people do it all the time. Sony and Microsoft are just catering to those types. Nintendo, on the other hand, takes a rather "out of the box" look at things and extends its reach in a different direction. Hoping that people will be more interested in them instead of their competitors because of that? Hey, it worked for Katamari Damacy and Namco, so why not? :x Besides, their audience has always been people ranging from 8-18 years of age.

Anyway, I'm just aiming for PS3 because I like RPGs; every game I play and finish is because I'm interested in the storylines. I'm not really interested in the interactive stuff that Nintendo has to offer because I'm not much of a party gamer anyway. And XBox has all the fps/porn/misc games that I'm not really interested in, either.

...Plus, the original topic of discussion was "don't buy xbox 360 'cause it's buggy!!" or something like that. Why am I still here?
