Actually what we're talking about is technically "poseur".

"One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others"

Any band with big hair, pouts, and eyeshadow between 1980 and 1992 would count as a "poser". And you can't forget those great synchronized moves. Rolling eyes

Theory of a Deadman kind of posed Nicelback, but they're much, MUCH better. Wonder if it counts if that's the case........

Dunno the first group, but being influenced by another group and not sucking isn't really posing. Unless it's painfully obvious they're trying to look like the other band for popularity (see the definition above). Tons and tons of groups (basically any male with eyeshadow and big hair in the 80s) were influenced by Hanoi Rocks, but they didn't all suck. And a lot of them got more recognition than Hanoi did (unfortunately).

Michael Monroe was prettier than most chicks. WTF?

Theory of a Deadman is a Hard Rock band. I heard 'em on the Spiderman soundtrack(not the best way to meet artists), but I liked 'em. They only have one CD out, though.

Theory of a Deadman's vocalist/guitarist is a friend of Chad Kroeger, that's how they got the record deal.

I like nickelback's not-so-popular songs more than the hits.

All cover bands, who are too lazy to come up with their own songs. For example, the Dave Matthews Cover Band. There's even a Guns N' Roses Cover Band down here(they KILLED "Sweet Child o' Mine). Most rappers pose styles that have been used up completely. Cover songs that are performed while the bands that are covering them dress up as the performers who originally performed the song are pretty much posing them. You should try to keep your own style and if your style is not in coordination with the music you're covering, you might want to find another song to cver.

Cover bands= lame
Tribute bands= even more lame, unless they're funny like Metal Shop/Skool.

They aren't much of a tribute band if they make the band sound terrible, right?

Yeah they are, they're just a bad one. Cover bands play other people's songs, for better or for worse, and tribute bands play other people's songs while dressed as and acting like the original artists. There are some really funny tribute bands that are kickass musicians, like Metal Skool. They rock the hell out of the songs but are so funny and entertaining to watch. No disrespect to the original artists. There are crappy bands of all kinds.

I know sometimes that covers can bring an old band back if the cover is good enough. I seem to recall Guns N' Roses cover of "Attitude". The Misfits gained popularity because of G n' R and Metallica(old).

Inside that bitter brain there's gotta be a whore...

All I have to say about that. Razz

There's nothing wrong with covers, it's the cover bands that are lame. Not bad for bar bands, but that's all they are. Tribute bands, unless parodies, are a whole new level of pathetic. Nine times out of ten the people get to believing they really are the artist and have such egos it's just sad.

Bar bands are funny cause they get drunk onstage a lot down here. It's a good thing because the guitarists play better when they're wasted. My girlfriend gets pissed off at me when I say all I wanna do with my life is live in a bar and get drunk every night................

I'd say that I'm the biggest poser here, and I admit it. I admit that I am every name I've ever been called . I'm a "poser", "teenibopper", "slut", "freak" whatever you call me. And I really don't give a flying rats ass.

As for thus you think people are posers, I guess you are technically right. Everyone is a poser in some way, even if you deny it. You still are. I know a lot of my friends are posers in the exact spots you guys are complaining about celebrities. ^_^ no offense to my friends, of course.

I do admit to some spots I've noticed and thought that some of my favorite bands ( Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Blink 182 etc. ) are posers at times. But like I said, I don't really give a flying rats ass.

There's still one person I will never admit he's a poser. EVER.... he's just too good.... of course he's dead, so I guess he had to have a fluke... *sniffles* I'll always miss him... though I don't think I was alive when Elvis died.... but I miss him. Cuz' I'm pathetic.

Back to the subject: ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE POSERS IN A DIFFERENT CATEGORY, SO THAT'S MY OPINION.. NOT THAT IT MATTERS, BUT OH WELL......

I go morn over Elvis now... *sniffles* damn him and his great music. *walks off mumbling more about Elvis* <_<

Damn..........there goes the topic.......
Why is it these topics end up losing to the technical truth?
Avril makes me sick. She has millions of dollars, a loving family, and she sings about DESPAIR?! She ought to be singing about pretty cats and dogs with the great life she has. Her lyrics don't add up to give us her life, always someone elses, but she credits it as her own. Her new C.D "Under My Skin", the playlist ought to be "Track one, "I'm Happy", 2. "Not Complicated", 3. "I Love You All....""
It pisses me off. She has an awesome life. She's a freaking millionare now. Only thing she has against her is her looks.
The skater look she tries to give is pathetic. She uses wires, for Christ's sakes.
Good Charlotte is just sad.
I'm going to sum it up, for everyone who thinks they're "punk" just because they look it. You don't have to look like a f**king goth from Hell to be a "punk". You just need to act like it. And that DOESN'T mean bash everything up and laugh your ass off, that means not giving a s**t about the world around you and taking everything as it comes. Some are theives, some are just careless people who do what they want, when they want. Not pathetic lowlifes with hair spiked up to God or with sh*tty bracelets with spikes.
This went a little off topic, but, truth is, if you say you're punk, you're not. If you look like a goth, and say you're punk, you're not. If you say that you're life sucks and you want to die, but you turn it into lyrics and make millions of dollars, you are pathetic.
I like the last one best.
People who say in their lyrics that they want to die because their life sucks, I get pissed off at them. If they really meant it, they would be long gone, found in their attic, like Kurt Cobain, who is the ONLY person who actually seemed to do what his lyrics said he'd do.
Punks aren't posers, people who buy their clothes at Hot Topic and say they're punk or goth, posers.
Goths just need black clothing, not designer black clothing.
Punks, as far as they're concerned, could run around naked. True punks don't care.
I'm neither a punk or a goth, so everything I just said is based off obvious reasons no one pointed out before.
I love to rant, makes me less angry. <_<
