Please Define "emo"

Alot of people at my school say they don't like "emo" but yet they like linkin park, which seems to be the most emo band out there... someone want to tell me what emo really is?

Emo is just a cheap imitation of Goth. And just because they listen to Linkin Park doesn't make them Emo" it's just their music taste. Heck, Linkin Park are one of my favourite bands and I've never felt tempted to slit my wrists or say I live in a black abyss of despair.

Emo...short for emotional...pretty self explanitory.

Any of these little bands (or people, for that matter), typically between the age of 13 and 20, with their self dyed black hair, eye liner, tight black jeans, and a bunch of angsty songs constantly whining.

Most people grow out of "emo" after that age because with a job and the "real world", there's no time to sit around crying about how much life sucks or the fact your girlfriend of 2 weeks just dumped you.

Linkin Park is nu metal, not emo. They've got emo tendencies, but they've got too many tired cliches and metaphors, whereas emo doesn't tend to be so...."subtle".

I've always liked to pronounce Emo-- "emu"

Emo = Emotional.

I don't think LP as Emo, though someof there music is emoisk, Emo is Three Days Grace.

I recently went home and saw one of my old high school friends whom I havent seen in almost two years. She turned emo on me. She had a heart stitched to the sleeve of her jacket and I asker what that was for. She said it was because she wears her heart on her sleeve.

I almost smacked her.

This is great...So funny. I wish I had funny pictures but alas, I do not.

I don't nessesarily think Linkin Park is emo...It's just that most of their music appeals to the emo type who believe that their life sucks and everyone is out to get them. And LP is more scremo than anything else.

Well, I don't have a problem with emo music, but sometimes the whole "blah blah blah slit my wrists because I don't have a girlfriend" thing gets old fast. And when people start categorizing themselves as emo...that gets annoying. "Hey, I wear 'emo' glasses and dress in tight dark clothes. I must be emo." <_<

I have a friend who I've known since first school... Her favourite band used to be westlife. she was absolutely obsessed with them.
Then one day, she came to school with her hair dyed black, a very bad imitation of an emo fringe and she was banging on about how 'hot and sexy' Gerard Way is.

I was speechless, to say the least....
