I recentrly ordered few Japanese mangas off YesAsia and I'm afraid that I'll have to pay ridiculous amounts of taxes like I did last time I ordered overseas (from US, Akadot Retail) So I'm wondering, has any one of you ordered from either YesAsia and Nippon-Export? Did the custom charge you 50% of the shipped item's value in taxes?

HOLY CRAP YES! I thought you were just exaggerating when I first read this thread, but I tried to place an order just now with Nippon-Export for a nineteen dollar art book. Shipping was going to be sixteen dollars. (twenty if you wanted express 0_0) Needless to say I didn't buy it.
Charging more for the shipping than the actual item should be illegal. _________________ a jelly calypso castle in the sky |

I like YesAsia because they're like OKAY ANY ORDERS $39 USD OR MORE = FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING!! 8D
I don't know about customs, though. They're a buncha hos. I think they stick huge taxes on anything that comes out of a foreign store. Doesn't really matter where you order from, customs is probably going to stick the same tax on anything that comes into Canada if the package isn't marked as a gift. :< _________________
