I was looking in a local store one day and noticed that they had this new type of medium that I have not seen before; pencil crayon watercolours.
Has anybody have any experience with it? Do they work well? Is there any different from normal watercolours?

ps: They aslo have watercolour crayons as well.

Thanks

Yeah, I've heard of them, but I really don't know that much about them. I watched one of my friends use them and they work well. they have water colour markers too. =P

I've used pencil crayon watercolours A.K.A Watercolor pencils. You can use the pencils dry, just like regular color pencils, or you can dip them in water, and use them as watercolors. My friends and I would draw tattoos on each other with them back in 5th grade... *sigh*

I dont know if youre talking about watercolour-pencils, but theyre VERY easy to use and theyre the same as watercolors . not the same results.. if you color hard with the pencils and go with water on it with a brush , you might see the colored pencils trace .but has lotsa neat effects those watercolor pencils you might want to try out ^_^

I love those things! You can get in so much detail because the pencils are sharper than brush tips. There are a few different techniques you can use, too.[list][*]Draw on dry paper with dry pencil tip. Dip paintbrush in water and paint over drawing.[*]Dip paintbrush in water and paint over blank paper. Draw on wet paper with dry pencil tip.[*]Dip pencil tip in water. Draw on dry paper.[/list:u]Each style has different effects. I suggest you dry all of them to see which one suits you best. Smile

I don't use mine very often because it leaves this odd-looking residue sometimes (I have th Staedler ones). They are, however, very easy to use. :3 I think everyone should try them at least once - they give really nice effects, and nice if you want to do a little bit of detail work, if brushes are too hard for you to use.

Another way to get just watercolour effects, if you don't feel like spending money, is just to use acrilic paint that has been diluted with water. It creates a watercolour look, as well.

I'd like to buy watercolour-pencils myself soon but I didn't know how they should be used... And now I know, so thanks.
Now it's just a matter of time before I have enough money to buy a set of pencils (damn manga made me go flat-broke <_< )

It was the first medium I bought.

And I hate it, it's a bastard offspring of watercolor and pencil crayon which can't look as good as neither and can't stand alone by itself.

I got a set a long time ago and used them a few times. I didn't particulaly like them, but then again I'm not all that great at hand coloring to begin with.
The best way I found to use them was to color the picture with the dry pencil, then brush on water.
They're kind of neat to experiment with, but as far as looking like "real" watercolor, I'd go for the actual paint instead of the pencil.

I got a small set of 12 Prismacolor watercolor pencils a couple of months ago. I've used them only once though. I intend to experiment with them a bit more when I get more free time. They were quite fun for me to use. ^_^ Some of those techniques sound really intresting though, especially dipping the tip of the penil tnto water and using it on paper.

I had some too. I never realy liked watercolors because I'm horrible at them. Using the pencils was fun though.......but then they got boring. Just like the traditional way I couldn't get them to do what I wanted them to do. Grr!
