Well, I think these are good bands:
- Alkaline Trio
- The Brilliant Green
- A Day at the Fair
- Death Cab for Cutie
- Estrela *probably one of the few bands I like that had a female singer
- Hidden in Plain View
- Jack's Mannequin
- Less Than Jake
- Mae *often mistaken as a Christian band
- Motion City Soundtrack
- The Postal Service *not actually rock, but more like electronika. They're very mellow
- Self Against City
- The Starting Line *I recommend you listen to "Say it Like You Mean it" rather than their latest album
- Senses Fail *I recommend you listen to "From the Depths of Dreams" rather than their latest album
- Thursday |

I'm glad someone approves, cause my parents sure as hell don't! But, at least I get to blast my music without annoying them so that's a huge plus... XD |

Noo, it's not that. They love the music I'm into, they're the ones where I learned all the bands I listen to from. It's just they think I'm too young to listen to older rock/Rock/metal and whatever else you'd call the bands I listen to. Yet, they let me watch R rated movies in the theaters with them. My parents are crazy fucks. |

Yeah. I'm (nearly, still have 7 days) 14. They think I should be into hip hop/rap and whatever. They shouldn't complain, my sister liked all the bands I'm into currently when she was my age, so I don't really see what the big deal is.
How old did you think I was, Tyler? 8D |

I saw quite a few good classics on here, so I wont list anymore of those. For stuff more modern try:
Fear Factory - My personal all time favorite. Not overwhelmingly heavy or bloodcurling. Any album really. They're all a little bit different.
HIM - Not heavy at all. Good tunes though with great lyrics.
Lacuna Coil - This is also one I can't recommend enough. Female vocalist with heavy instrumentals. Really, one of the best female fronted bands I've ever heard in modern music.
2 other female fronted bands that you might fight interesting are Nightwish, which has this Opera metal thing going on. Arch Enemy's new stuff has a female vocalist, but that's pretty heavy. Not sure if it's too heavy for your tastes.
Borksnager is something I've recently discovered that seems to be pretty decent.
Aside from that, a really amusing band is Mindless Self Indulgence. They're just kind of a weird band. Definitely NOT heavy. Surprised that no one has made mention of them, as they seem to be quite popular around here.
Not sure if you're into the industrial/gothic/ebm type music either, but some good mainstream ones are:
Hocico - a lot of their albums are in Spanish, but if you get "Signos De Aberracion" ( I think that is how it's spelled. o.O) there's a lot of English songs on that album. It's my personal favorite album by them. It has this creepy fairytale feel. Kind of ambient. Awesome industrial band.
Wumpscut - one of the best industrial bands around. One of the first I heard. German but with a lot of English lyrics. Not sure how important that is to you, either.
Probably one of the most mainstream industrial bands is Velvet Acid Christ. It's not too bad, at least worth a listen to. There's tons of sampling from movies in their music. Not one of my favorites anymore, but they also have a pretty dedicated following.
A lot of people don't like The Cruxshadows but I really enjoy them for their use of violins. Definitely going to say they are more Gothic than anything else. Don't get that confused with "gothic metal" or anything like that. Just Gothic. Nothing metal about them. Think Peter Murphy or Bauhaus. If you know either of those.
Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned The Cure. I really like them. Most of the lyrics are pretty emo, but good music. I actually prefer the stuff from the 80's rather than the new stuff.
Speaking of 80's, Depeche Mode. This is one to not forget. I'm sure you've heard of them at least. Once again, I really prefer their 80's songs to any of the modern stuff they have.
Ok, I have to list at least one classic rock band here because I'm not 100% sure if it was listed or not. Led Zeppelin. CLASSIC. That's about all there is to say about them.
That's about all I can think of at the moment. Hopefully my ramblings gave you an okay idea of what each band is like. ^^
Oh, one more. You can kind of take this one with a grain of salt but GWAR. I wasn't old enough to really be into GWAR when they first came about, but man. They are great in a totally ridiculous way. I think since I grew up watching Beavis and Butthead, this could be partially the reason why I like them I always feel out of place and way too young at GWAR concerts. It's like, a BAD b-movie horror flick with guitars. Seriously. |
