Ain't seen the first one in ages though. I was wondering when there was going to be a second one of it.

POTC:DMC may, in my opinion, suffer from the poor sequel syndrome. The original movie was so grea, how are they going to top it?

Toy Story 2, and Shrek 2, managed to outperform their first movies... POTC... well, we'll have to wait and see.

Sorry, had to do this. (ETA: this bit not in reference to Strata's post)

Now, with that out of the way, I'm worrying like Strata. I've been extremely unimpressed with the original POTC trailers. In fact, neither me nor my girlfriend wanted to see it at the time, until some people we knew went and told us it was great. We were, fortunately, pleasantely (sp?) surprised. This time again, the trailer for the sequel has me totally unimpressed. I get it: the sets are impressive, but that's about it. I am really hoping to be surprised once again, but I'm not holding my breath. Sad The movie simply cannot sail well on nice special effects and Depp doing the exact same thing as in the first movie. I wonder if they found something new to further strenghten the story, because I didn't see it in the trailers.

Supposedly, the plot might have something to do with the legend of The Flying Dutchman.

Which would be nice, considering that the trailer makes no mention of it at all.

I was wondering about that. Never quote a member's post (or a part of it) unless you are going to respond directly to what you're quoting.

Well, the rest of my post was in reference to your comment. I should have put my first comment, then your quote, then the rest of my comment. Would have been much clearer from the get-go. Sorry about that.

The plot sounds too simple. Jack's a marked man and they have to find a treasure to save him...?

But then again, if they proceed with it in convoluted RPG fashion (y'know, plot twists, minor side trips and so forth), then the plot may end up being worthwhile.

Let's see, what was the plot of the first POTC about? A down-on-his-luck pirate captain tries to take back his old ship from his mutinous crew and first mate.

Hm. I'm not a big fan of sequels, but I did enjoy the first one a lot. This one doesn't seem to have much going for it, plot-wise, but I'll still go see it. It'll probably be something like 'The Mummy Returns' -> Fun, corny action, but still stupid.

I just hope there ain't gonna be some kid to ruin it. I HATE sequels with kids. ><

This one may be good but the fact that they are already planning a third scares me....

Lord of the rings 1, 2 and 3 were all filmed at the same time as one big movie, they then divided into 3 by at least 6 months apart to get the big green, a lot of green, and Lord of the rings movie was based of the books.
