I'm wondering if people like to use prismacolor products, markers, pencil crayons, nu pastels... :P
I personally like their line a lot, although many professionals criticize that they are pedestrian and that almost none of their products are lightfast.
But I really like them because they match colors between their products, that they are widely availabe, and fairly cheap in their class.
I'm thinking of holding a Prismacolor contest soon, and reply if you use/like prismacolors too We can share color swatches.

I've only ever used their pencil crayons, and they were nice. Never had any pencil crayons that blended so nicely before. _________________

They last pretty long too, After two years (of sporadic usage) I only needed to replenish 5. The usual, Black, Goldenrod, Tuscan Red, White...
I use browns and dull warm colors a lot. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Ugh, I have way too many boxes sitting around full of colors I never use. But they're my favorite pencils for the pigment and wax content and the colorless blenders. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I would love to try them, but they are either too expensive or too hard to find here..... I want to try them soon so I may buy them on the net..... but yes I love most art done with prismacolors. _________________

I love the pencil crayons... I tend to layer them up so thick when I'm blending that I can scratch off the top layer or two when I make a mistake. They're horribly expensive if you get them from art specialty stores, but if you poke around Staples or Wal Mart you can get a box of 60 for under $20.
The markers are pretty good, but I have to admit that after I started using copics I noticed a significant difference in quality. Copics may cost an arm and a leg, but it's well worth it, I find... _________________

Copic - too expensive, and it doesn't have a color pencil line that matches the hue. and that's the most prominent vice for me, beside, the only advantage copic has over prismacolor is that it has much less streaks, and I don't use it that way (on bristol all by itself) in the first place. I'm gonna stick with Prismacolor. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Prismacolors really are the brand to go w/even though I feel my debit card become lighter everytime I shop at Dick Blick's for their individual .
(Debit card become lighter? WTF? It's got me puzzled too. <_< )
Now I'm not really sure about their colored pencils really lasting any longer than any other brand, but I can definitely tell that the colors are much richer. Maybe they don't last as long for me b/c I press down to hard when I color...I'm horrible for that.
I have no complaints about their markers, though...I used to think they bled real bad until I realized I wasn't using the right paper... Besides it's a real plus that they come in open stock b/c why colors you don't need! <_< |
Copic - too expensive, and it doesn't have a color pencil line that matches the hue.
Ah, I suppose I use the markers differently than you... I don't use them as a coloured pencil base, but rather as a means to colour concept art quickly and do decent tonal studies, so I don't need matching hues like you would. Those things kind of demand streakless colour and a certain line quality... also I find the colour fidelity with copics a little more dependable. The lightest blue Prisma I could track down is the same shade as the darkest of my two blue copics.... and that's no good for shading and layering.
Still, since they are so expensive I rely on a mix of both brands for my marker work. I just plan on replacing the Prismas gradually with copics as they die. Your wallet doesn't feel the pain as badly when you buy them one at a time _________________

Heh heh... yeah... I kind of dissappeared like... two years ago. Thanks, though ^_^
If you're looking for a box set of markers, go for one of the grey Prismacolor sets. Markers in general are too expensive to buy unless you absolutely KNOW you're going to use every colour in the or have money to waste, and I find the box sets are just off the tones and shades I need enough to be kind of a waste of time. I find it's better to opt for shades a few shades paler on what you intend to colour, then just layering them up a couple times to make them look darker.
With the greys, every shade is useful at one point or another. I bought a box of cool grey Prismas a few years ago, and still I carry them with me all the time. _________________

I was one of the lucky ones, I probably paid about 1/3 of what other people pay for prisma markers.
I currently have about 110.
22- I got them for 20dollars, it was a damaged marker set (the stack was damaged) and was missing two pieces. Score.
15- got them for two canadian dollars each in clearance, same store as above.
70- got them for 1.90 Canadian each when Prismacolor decided to replace the finer tip, and the ones on the market became absolete, I never use fine tip anyway.
So I got all my prisma markers for 1.60 American or less, Life is gewd. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

*shakes fist* bah. The absolute cheapest Prisma markers I've ever found were a box of 12 going for $20-something Canadian.... and I am Canadian, so that's not huge savings for me... _________________

I got the pencils cheap too, one thing that got me hooked to Prismacolor was how many lucky deals I was able to get, I got a 72-set pencil crayon for 39 dollars Canadian.
Almost 50 cents each, lovely. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Oooh, my pencils I DID get cheap. I got a 60 pack at staples one sale for about $17 (after tax and all that). Only like 30 cents/pencil. And that's in Canadian dollars.
On a side note, what exacly is the difference between the Scholar prismacolour pecils and the normal ones? I have boxes of both, but I don't notice enough of a difference to merit the extra dollar per pencil normal ones cost at art specialty stores. Or any difference, really, for that matter. _________________

scholar ones are for art students, normal ones are professional grade. not enough difference between them except the normal ones have thicker lead, more color choices, and the fact it is replenishable. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Ah, I just start with a box set and replace colours as needed with professional ones. No need to invest in a box of the professional ones when I can't even buy a box of 12 for what I can get 60 scholar ones for. _________________
