Really? o_o; Because I remember that I've always known both the upsides and downsides of both. I suppose the rock thing makes enough sense on its own (I sure wouldn't stick around if I were getting stoned ), but I guess the bait bit is a little more tricky... Although a little bit of experimentation should have solved that, imo. :X
As for me, I usually just threw a bit of bait, then a rock, then maybe a little more bait and rocks (depending on the rarity of the Pokemon), then just threw a Safari Ball whenever I thought they were ready (or about to run away XD). _________________

The ratio at which you seem to find shiny Pokemon appears to be completely insane; off the wall. [s]Especially since RBY doesn't have shiny Pokemon unless you trade the Pokemon to a GS game and it shows up as shiny there...[/s] _________________

Theoretically, yes. In GSC, the "shinyness" factor is secretly encoded into the Pokmon's attack power, so that you can trade a "shiny" pokmon into RBY and back into GSC again (even a friend's GSC) without the pokmon losing its "shiny" factor. Conversely, this also means that an extreme few of the pokmon from RBY, when traded into GSC, will become "shiny" themselves.
Considering the odds, Shinyness is essentially pokmon's version of albinism -- easier to produce in captivity than finding in the wild, but generally rare either way.
On another weird note: I read that in RSE, Azurill and Marill have differing gender distributions -- which, in short, cause approximately 1/3 of female Azurills to suddenly become male after evolving into Marrill :blink:
. . . I didn't know there even was such a thing as transgender pokmon _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Fayore, I have over thousands of hours of gameplay for all of my Pokemon games and out of all those thousands of pokemon I've bumped into, only four were shiny, 5 if you include the shiny red garados. |

Between GSC and RSE, I've probably spent about 300 hours, and I still have yet to encounter any shiny in the wild (except of course the GSC red Gyarados). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

You were playing an RBY game (otherwise, I don't think you would have asked about how to catch a Dratini in them), and you said you saw a shiny Dratini.
I rest my case. ._.;
And I still haven't encountered any wild shiny Pokemon in any of my games, and I've hit tonnes of hours on them. :X My shiny Pokemon were traded through other people. XD _________________

She could be referring to the remakes, i.e. FireRed / LeafGreen. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

RBY=Ruby??
In any case, I know I've played more than a couple hundred hours. I mean, I've played my games every weekend and vacation since they came out and for my Red and Yellow version,that's a super long time. I'm serious when I say I have at least a thousand hours on it.
And as for the shiny pokemon. I've seen one in Red, one in yellow, one in Ruby, and one in Gold. They're all in seperate games. I've never seen more than one in the same game. |

RBY = Red/Blue/Yellow.
And what Red said is true.
She could be referring to the remakes, i.e. FireRed / LeafGreen.
Doubt it. I mean, Yellow was mentioned in the same breath as Red. [s]Plus, her post just now proves it entirely...[/s] :X
And in Ruby a shiny keckleon (which really doesn't color-corrdinate with it) and a shiny swablu. I dont train them, just look at them.
Busted. I hate when people lie about things like that. Why would you ever feel the need to do that over something like Pokemon? _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

Ha Rita! I win the bet!
Sorry she's been tricking you guys, I know it's a bit weird but minute I saw the shiny pokemon thing come up I bet Rita that she wouldnt be able to convince you that she had a shiny pokemon in all her games. I guess she forgot that she cant get a shiny in Red or Yellow.
Yay, I won ten bucks!

I'm slightly amused that you came back to tell us about Rita's bet with you, rather than updating the status on your apparent "heart surgery". You must be really lucky; 70% chance of dying on January 09... I wonder why Rita managed to forget to tell us that you were alright...

70% chance?
Jeebus Rita, I know you were worried, but when I said 70% I was paniking.
Nah, I'm fine. Turns out, it was a lot less serious than the doctors thought it would be. I was never in any imminent danger. You sohuld've seen Rita when she found out, she threw a fit at the doctors for making her worry so much.. Hang on, did she tell you guys? Don't tell me she posted it on the Internet! Ugh, I told her only to tell some of the RP people who know me. >< |

I made it to Fortree and beat Winona's gym in a single run. My Lv.30 Manectric nearly ran out of Sparks though....
But really, it's not the gym, but the eastern half of the Hoenn region itself that impresses me. It is WILD. Not wild as in crazy, but as in untamed wilderness. Grass taller than you are, you can't bike or run through it, and it's a long distance to even the first town.
Compare: The western half of the continent contains eight towns (Littleroot, Oldale, Petalburg, Rustboro, Verdanturf, Mauville, Fallarbor, Lavaridge).
The eastern half has what? The Weather Institute, Safari Zone, Fortree covering roughly the same amount of space.
Saving the Weather Institue was quite fun (I really love the music in the Team Aqua/Magma battles).
I did expect Winona to be using a lot of Aerial Ace against me, but it really surprised me when her Altaria took out Manectric with an Earthquake. (I'd Roared her Swellow out on the first turn, and wound up fighting Altaria early) Linoone's Secret Power filled in quite well though. Castform's Hail + Powder Snow was also quite useful here.
I'm really impressed by the mix of Flying types in that Gym. A lot of Flyers with less vulnerability to Electric and Ice than back in Falkner's gym.
Was a little upset at the amount of items I used (five Super Potions, one Revive), but I did that for the ability to use the Fly HM. I wasn't really expecting to run into my Rival just past the weather institute, but comparatively, that battle was a breeze (Kirlia's Psychic ruled her Combusken). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Wow still a lot of pokemon fans. Pokemon breeding happens like that? No wonder an egg from my friend had Dragon Claw (a Charmander had it)
Does anyone else have anymore to say of the games? I really enjoy this information. _________________ |
