Submissions Problem!

A friend of mine, Absolution, he's been trying to submit work for a whole week now, and it isn't going though!
He does fractals, but the admin that's going through them is rejecting them, saying they are screenshots or stolen art.
He is not stealing art; if you look at his gallery, you will see that his work is mostly all fractals; he's really good at them, and his work is brilliant!

He also says that he has the original psf or somesuch files, on which he made the pictures!

Please, the approval admins are good, but they're wrong this time and Absolution really isn't stealing pictures or somewhat. I've been waiting for his works for a week now and this is a really rude thing to do!

Please, let his pics though, he really does do his work, and he shouldn't be stuck with dealing with this!!!

Judging fractals is a very difficult matter -- to be honest, whether we should allow them [b]at all[/b] is an open question. For example, screenshots of Media Player "visualizations" are not really fractals, and we can't accept [i]them[/i] because MP visualizations are created automatically by the computer, and not by the artist submitting the picture. (It's usually possible to discern an MP visualization from a fractal.)

How do we define whether you are the one who "created" a fractal? If all you did was push a button and a built-in algorithm did the rest, then you had no input to the process whatsoever and you cannot claim the result as yours.

If you gave a built-in algorithm some parameters, then at least you're providing some artist input...

Or if you programmed the entire algorithm yourself, then you could claim that the fractal is completely yours.

Problem is, fractals involve a hell of a lot of calculations and filtering which are performed automatically by the computer. This is the nature of a fractal, after all, and because of this it's very hard to identify to what extent you directed the process of (or, i.e. "created") the fractal. Site AP are people too (the AP shouldn't be confused with admins, only a few AP members actually are).

Remember, the first and foremost purpose of FAC is for [b]Fanart[/b]. Original art is welcome, but it remains a second place, and must comply with many of the same rules that we have in place for submitting fanart.

Anyway, for the record, could we:
- Hear this directly from Absolution, and not as delivered through you?
- See a copy (quote) of the exact rejection e-mail received.

Alrighty, let's just get something straight. First off, I make fractals in apophsys and abstract contemporary art in photoshop. Basically, I will usually say if it is a geniune fractal or not (defined by using a fractal-creating software)

There have been two problems.

1) A geniune FRACTAL has been declined TWICE saying that it was not my own work.

2) Two abstract works have been rejected one time each, being classified as screenshots.

Technically, I don't have the flame file to PROVE that I made this, but it is a completely original fractal and you should not be able to find it ANYWHERE but my deviantpage. (Also, for REAL fractal makers, we don't just press a button and let the built-in algorithm do the rest. We actually try to customize them using different equations and techniques. As you will see, this fractal isn't a completely abstract mess.)

Now, these I can prove are mine 100%, but whoever thought these could possibly be a generated visualization should have their eyes examined. I have the PSF files ready to be provided on this account.

The abstracts look a lot like winamp/window media player/etc. visualizations which is why they were rejected.

As for weather they should be accepted....
Fractals are generated with mathematical algorithms. Therefore, to be considered your own work, you would have to write the algorithm/formula that generates them.

And I dont think its unreasonable for the last one you posted to be mistaken for visualization

and don't tell us that photoshop / painter users don't create "art" since they didn't write the program. Those are a whole different dimension.

Did you answer that [i]before[/i] submitting again? Remember the time lag associated with e-mail.

Yes, I did. Actually, I had sent my name with the first complaint email. Although it must have been overlooked. Although honestly...as I said, how can you compair a simplistic visualization with my art? The only thing they had similiar was the color scheme, which even that was questionable.

As for the fractal I did once more state above that it was a custom-made.
So much hoop-la over such a little thing, honestly...
