mmkay i have a bit of a fascination with covers. i know there are some really bad ones out there (some of which were mentioned not too long ago in some thread or other), but there are also some really good ones! so list your favourite covers or bands you think do the best covers. or you can list the ones you hate. i don't care
songs
"video killed the radio star" by the presidents of the united states of america (originally by the buggles; and thanks fallen for letting me know who did this one)
"turning japanese" by no use for a name (vapors cover)
"fraggle rock theme" by allister
"cheers theme" by lagwagon
"i'm gonna be (500 miles)" by down by law (proclaimers cover)
"man who sold the world" by nirvana (david bowie cover)
"darling nikki" by the foo fighters (prince cover)
"99 red balloons" by goldfinger (i forget who originally did it... some german woman... tani or something...)
"build me up buttercup" by the goops
"my sharona" by veruca salt (the knack cover)
"clash city rockers" by saves the day (clash cover)
"i want you to want me" by letters to cleo (cheap trick cover)
"come on eileen" by save ferris (dexy's midnight runners cover)
"blitzkrieg bop" by rob zombie (ramones cover)
"outsider" by green day (ramones cover)
"sheena is a punk rocker" by rancid (ramones cover)
"lola" by the raincoats (kinks cover)
"enter sandman" by the mighty mighty bosstones (metallica cover)
"it's the end of the world as we know it" by the riddlin kids (REM cover)
"where the streets have no name" by the reason (u2 cover)
"i'm real" by the starting line (jayz/jlo cover)
"oi to the world" by no doubt (vandals cover)
bands- not cover bands, but bands that do good covers
reel big fish- a ska band, and i love ska covers. it's great to take a song and change it around using the trumpets and trombones. i especially love their "take on me", "hungry like the wolf", and "brown-eyed girl" covers
less than jake- another ska band, which does a lot of covers. "i think i love you" is my favourite
mxpx- punk band, also does a lot of covers. "oh donna" and "i saw her standing there" are my favs
get up kids- for an emo band, they do surprisingly AWESOME covers from more rock-type bands. bowie's "suffragette city", the cure's "close to me", and the pixies' "alec eiffel" are all superb
ooook that's enough for now. sorry, i listen to a LOT of covers... sometimes they're even better than the original, or equally as good

that's true- i like the original better, too. a lot of times the original is better, but the cover can still be good. like the riddlin kids' cover of "it's the end of the world as we know it" is great, but REM's is much better. because REM rocks. yea... _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

"The Man Who Sold the World", origianally Bowie, covered by Nirvana along with "The Ghost of Tom Joad", originally by Springsteen, covered by Rage Against the Machine. Limp Bizkit oughta be dragged out into the streets and shot. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Oh dear.... I won't include who originally did the songs. 'Cause I'm lazy and in some cases don't know and would have to look it up.
"Smokin' In the Boys Room" - Motley Crue
"Your Mama Don't Dance" - Poison
All the covers Billy Idol's done
"Born to be Wild" - Ozzy
"Man Who Sold the World" - Nirvana
"Black Leather" - Guns n' Roses
"Ain't It Fun" - Guns n' Roses
"California Girls" - David Lee Roth
"Stay While the Night is Young" - David Lee Roth
"If 6 was 9" - David Lee Roth
Basically his whole "Diamond Dave" record
"Cover of the Rolling Stone" - Poison (REALLY good cover. Check it out)
"Live and Let Die" - Guns n' Roses
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" - Guns n' Roses
"You're So Vain" - Faster Pussycat
"Anarchy In the UK" - Motley Crue
"Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" - David Lee Roth
"China Girl" - David Bowie
"Cum on Feel the Noize" - Quiet Riot
"Helter Skelter" - Aerosmith
"Helter Skelter" - Motley Crue
"Once Bitten Twice Shy" - Great White (awesome karaoke song)
"You Really Got Me" - Van Halen
Bands:
David Lee Roth can cover anything and make it cool. (*will not make a dirty joke...will not...*)
Billy Idol is also the cover master.
Axl can make me like Beatles tunes!
More later. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Red Hot Chili Peppers did a cover of "Fire".Did Hendrix an injustice, I think, but noone has said that it absolutely sucked.
And your sister is gonna have to get me some Jack Daniels. I always wanted to down a bottle of that stuff. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Yep, originally done by Brownsville Station. At least with Motley doin' it, you can pretty much assume they've got some experience with smokin' in the boys room...and screwin' in the boys room...shooting heroin in the boys room...and pissin' on bars and hotel lobbies. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Listen to the entire "Renegades" album by Rage Against the Machine. he covers are as follows:
"The Ghost of Tom Joad"-Springsteen
"In My Eyes"-Minor Threat
"Maggie's Farm"-Dylan
"Street Fighting Man"-Rolling Stones*
"Renegades of Funk"(terrible)-Afrikka Bambastaa*
"How I Could Just Kill A Man"-Cypress Hill*
many others, better than the ones with asterisks beside them
I should also add Tori Amos' cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but I didn't like that cover and I only heard it because of my math teacher. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.
