I'm reading a very interesting book called "The Power of Babel" by John McWhorter.
French is really Modern-day Latin, "Latin" as we know it didn't die out, but rather transformed into what we now call French. It was interesting to read that Italian is further from Latin than French is.
I want to become a linguist, not as a profession, but as a hobby. Learning French is going rather well, so is Japanese.
yeah, I'd love some foreign language boards in here... _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

That's actually something I would also like to pick up as a hobby. Those are the 2 languages I've also started to learn briefly. I'm just starting Japanese so I am very limited as far as that goes. |

It can take a really long time before getting the hang of placing french words at the right place. I had trouble placing some english words and I practiced now I'm the one helping others in both english and french.
 What's your first language?
French and not many people around me speak it relly well. My mom ain't that good, my dad can't speak a word and is out of the picture. My grandma is okay in english but me and my sis are the best ones in the house. My cousin is good for both, his father talks english, his mother french so he learned both.
I did because I read, listen and did an effort. _________________ A life with love will have some thorns but a life without love will have no rose |

Good job. That's very impressive.
I wish I were bilingual. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

if you're taking French in your highschool, and you don't totally suck at it, take it through four years. By the time you finish it you're semi-fluent and it's harder to forget it. If you quit just after Grade nine, you'll forget everything. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Good advice. My Gr 8 French teacher said something like that aswell. I'll see how it turns out. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

like you said, one grammar mistake.
"Je parle Franais." You only switched the 'a' and 'i' but that's about it. _________________ A life with love will have some thorns but a life without love will have no rose |

I speak vaguely passable french, I can usually make it through french web pages and understand about 70-90 percent of what I read, though I do have to use a dictionary at times. |
