SAT, in Britain, stands for South African Transport, which is of course just a black man with a saddle. I'm now led to believe they're also examination test sittings in schools and other educational areas and buildings which children go inside and complete with pens and pencils and such. I do not remember completing these tests possibly due to some prolonged involuntarily impaired state of mind due to some abuse of some special substance but I know for a FACT that a few of you completed yours and even got results comparable to other people who completed thier SAT's.

I'm interested. My new found information of the world's educational system made me curious.. I'm asking you.. What were your SAT results?

fix'd :theteach:

I personally can't believe that American teenagers have to do that test when they are 16, two years before the university, is that right?

Yup. Evil SATS and ACT. I think I do the ACT next year, and the SAT I and II in junior and senior year.

Do Canadians take the SAT @ sixteen, or what?

no, we just apply to universities based on our grades. the universities only look at grade 11 and 12 mark, only math and english for Grade 11.

Our universities costs about a quarter of American universities since the government subsidizes it. Wink

I got out of school before they made us take this one test.

i wouldn't know my score even if i tried. I don't know where to check for them too :(

but i must of done well because i know that army recruiter stalked me for about 3 month's.

Every weekend i'd see him and he'd try to talk to me about the army and how great it is.

I love the army and all but i'm not joining until they force that draft note into my mouth.

and then i'd spit it out and join the air force or navy to piss them off  Laughing

"In the navy..."

Canada has it lucky. I'm constantly getting jealous. I mean, we have SAT and CSAP and ACT...and it just is too much testing. All because of the damn No Child Left Behind Act.

And before that, in third grade and above, we had to take the Iowa State Exam, which was, like, all over the country.

I didn't take mine either and I do live in the states. heh.

I just didn't go. Didn't want to get up early one morning and didn't want to pay for a stupid test.

I went to a Community College. They don't even care.

...though, I do expect to take it. My parents and the schoolboard would butcher me if I didn't, and I'm already in enough pain D;

Sad Since I'm a perfectionist and want to go to an Ivy League, SAT and ACT scores are basically mandatory. Our school actually makes you take them. If you don't kiss any remote possibility of getting a high school diploma buh-bye.

That's the point. Colleges what to see your scores to make sure they don't admit some moron.

What? 12 posts and no one has even posted a single score? Fine, I'll go first. I got a 1200 out of 1600 between math and reading tests and I suck. I also got a 620 on the writing portion out of however many points (I think 800). I heard my friend got a 1400, and I was so jealous of him, especially since he was sitting right behind me during the test (just like he was all during Algebra II class two years earlier when I had to help him with every problem), but then we all found out that his 1400 was a combo of reading, math, and writing! And here he is acting like Mr. Smarty Pants Hot Stuff. Ha ha, James, ha ha. Razz

People who bitch about standardized tests should stfu. Guess what, there ain't room for everyone to go to college, no dumbasses allowed. Put up or shut up. Gotta earn your college privelages.

And to people who think "everyone should go to college!"...well, not everyone is going to be a doctor or corporate lawyer. You don't need a degree to sell shoes the rest of your life. Those people are just wasting space.

And thus, you take a test. And no, it doesn't prove how smart you are, it proves how well you take a test, which is going to be what 85% of your grade is based on in a regular college class. Midterm, final, and maybe a paper or two.

Standardized tests are actually a very good way to judge college compentency. So. Take them. The SAT isn't even hard, it's sophomore level stuff.

Standarized tests aren't that hard...but I guess my main complaint is how many people bitch about it at my school like it's the end of the world. These tests DO help decide who goes where and when. They're incredibly important. Without testing, many factors in deciding which US university I can go to basically goes down the drain.

I DO get pissed when they make little kids do tests like the CSAP. It doesn't even go on their permanent file until the enter high-school. Though it does help decide how much money is given to schools, it takes away from electives like art and music that likkle kiddies should have.

In fact...I kinda like testing. More breaks, more food, we get to be lazy. It's not all that bad.

I totally agree with that. This country is founded on the unspoken rule that some people are going to suceed very well in life and some just well, aren't. Afterall, someone needs to take out the garbage once a week. Without people who don't go to college and end up getting less-than-great jobs, this country would most likely fall apart. In other words, this country depends on failures of standardized testing. Root out the strong from the weak in a sense. :)

As for my score, well I didn't take SATs yet..I should probably sign up for them really soon. Uneasy I recently got back my CAPT testing scores from last year. The scoring was like weird though. No number grade. Just a bar code that had three columns: Passing grade, my grade, average grade of the school and average grade of the state.

Reading and essay writing: Above average for school and state and needless to say, I passed..which is weird because while reading articles for the essay writing I fell asleep for like twenty minutes.

Science: Mmm I think that was like a little above average for school and state

Math: Just barely made it to the average for the school and state. Math is not my forte.

I remember taking those tests and feeling like I was drugged up on something. I was so tired durring every test that I was pretty sure I would've failed them. But instead, I beat out the state averages and I wasn't even at my highest potential.

Does that mean I shouldn't worry about SATs?

Yah. They're more hyped up than they should be. Study, think smart, and chill and you'll do fine.

I know...I do my best when I'm NOT thinking much. Creepy.

Yes the concept is good and all, but seriously go back about what 25 years ago and colleges were reading a book called a seperate piece now go into overdrive and now what 9th graders are reading it.

No I have no problem what-so-ever with these tests, but tell me they dont put you under pressure people wonder why kids in 8th grade are maturing so fast well the answer to that is WE HAVE TO pretty soon or even NOW. Over the next 25 years you never know. They might start having 7 or 6th graders read this book a seperate piece I mean again the concept I wasnt trying to bad mouth it. It's just Im telling you pretty soon every grade will take standardized tests dont beleive me it will happen. Its all about how smart you are in life that's all that matters and tell me thats not the most pressuring thing on your mind, but if you ask me I just think Im adapting too slow when everything is going too fast.

But out of curiosity has any of your schools bought this studyisland.com ?

I always thought school was too easy, even the AP classes. Never studied...wrote papers the night before with no rough drafts (and still do . . . . )...rarely did the reading...

And still graduated with a 3.98 gpa (damn western civ b+ lolz) from almost the top school in the state.

I want school to be like survivor. So hard that 90% won't make it and will get to work those lovely service industries the rest of their life. There's no room for mediocrity.
