Honestly reading these responses I really question why I'm really even attempting to become art teacher...is that what I really want to do? Or do I just really like doing fanart and don't have any desire to draw anything else. I mean still life bores me to hell and despise doing it...I hate choosing a major for college. <_<

Uh, shouldn't the overwhelming requirement for becoming an art teacher be a desire to teach others, not a desire to draw fanart? It's okay if you don't know what you want to do after school - it's the college years where you get to experiment and find out what you really like to do. Even after that, plenty of people still don't know what to do with their lives. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do after I graduate, but I just know that I'd hate to be forced to be artistic every day of my life. Drawing's just a side hobby for me.

Back on topic, I only do fanart of characters that I worship or that have cool character designs. Of course, since I'm picky about my fangirling obsessions, I don't produce too much fanart. Most of my pictures these days are of my various original characters, the majority of which are dark elven. Because drow rock. Smile

I draw fanart because I like their chracter designs, so far, I've only drawn fanart for Naruto and Mushishi (cheap chibis not counted)

I draw fanart when I don't feel like using my brain. And, by that logic, I wasn't using my brain for 5 years. 8D But seriously, I was just too uncreative to think of my own characters and designs, so I drew other people's characters.

I was also a pathetic fangirl. D:

But I've started drawing my originals a lot more lately than fanart. Which has, of course, caused me to lose popularity. Oh well.

Fanart.. I drar fanart sparingly... I guess because I want give certain characters my own look, using my own style. I guess that constitutes as 'just for fun'. See, when you draw your own characters, nobody else really cares about them because they don't know the story behind those characters. They seem pointless... (I'm not just talking about how many comments you get.) What I mean is, OC are sort of disposable, since they exist only in your mind, while fanart characters are forever. So when I look back on my art many years later, I don't see random peolple, but rather someone the record of whom exists in books or movies.

The fanarts I draw often give my favorite characters new looks. Maybe I'm obsessed at some point in my TV-watching life, or perhaps I just feel the need to draw something I saw just recently. Either way, I can still improve, and that's what counts.

OCs can be a pain, somehow, because they require thorough brain functionality. But when you get the inspiration(from movies, books, or from some other stuff...), you just think: "it must be done". OCs are more like projects than a hobby to me.

The purpose is the deep feelings the artist (or non-artist) feels to express their feelings of liking for their show or comic or whatever! It's a feeling that shouldn't be corrupted or else it could manifest into something worst then an H-bomb!.

basically to get rid of angst/relieve stress. Also if there's a kawaii guy I do know girls like to draw them to "fantasize"

A kawaii guy?

I'm not sure I'd be having any fantasies over anything that could be considered kawaii.

Except Daitokuji's cat.

me...ive always loved to draw and stuff. but when i started drawing anime-ish charcters was when my friend got me hooked on Shonen Jump. i thought the character dezines was cool and so i started copying the pictures (by the way, this was back when i was about 11 or so..im 15 now). i never really did "fanart" but i did come up with some OCs now and then.
currently im just honeing my skills with the human anatomy, fantasy creatures, and machines for my future career choice which is to be a concept dezine artist. ^_^

Me? I just like to draw in general. And 'cause I'm not all that good at thinking up my own characters . . . . , I like to try and draw other characters as fan art. Just to mainly improve and learn new styles and techniques. Its easy to copy. But it's hard to make up something new for yourself, I find anyway.
At least its hard to make a real proper job of it. Anything I try that is totally my own work, straight out of my head, doesn't usually turn out half as good, then what it does if I have a referance to it. The referance being characters that I am into at that moment from my favorite TV show or whatever.

Another reason being is just I'm a naturally competitive person and ..... in a way ...( I'll get eaten for this ).... I like to prove to myself that I am better than my arty friends .... I'm a bad bad person .... Banghead

Finally, I also just do it to pass the time and I enjoy seeing something I've worked hard on getting finished and looking really good. Very Happy

I guess i do it because it allows me to use my imagination, but i have a reference as well, plus i love what i am drawing ( which is probably fairly important Rolling eyes ) and it helps me improve.

Fanart began my life... O_O
just kidding, but it did get me started on the whole anime/art scene.

I draw fanart because (this is getting old) I'm paying tribute to the artist or maybe I like the character. And requests. I use them as a refrence also, say I'm having trouble getting a pose right, the legs just aren't working out. BADABADADA!! Refrence. And sometimes I draw the whole thing as like... practice or thanks. And plus I like to see how my style varies from other artist's. Example: My Edward Elric looks different from the Edward Elric from FMA. Or my Rei looks different from Neon Genisis's Rei. And its a challenge, it has to be just right, or Inuyasha just isn't Inuyasha. Because no one can tell if your OC doesn't work. But EVERYONE knows when Inuyasha is messed up. >.>

And its good to get different experience, like... you're in a good mood, but you only know how to draw evil eyes, drawing fanart gives you the exposure to at least know what happy eyes look like.

My 2 cent and a Half

Usually I do fanart of lesser known series in hopes that it'll get more people to watch an underrated show. Also to show people my interpretation and opinion of a character or show, and that is also why I like seeing other people's fanart. And The King commands us to draw fanart or a horrible Katamari comet will fall upon the Earth and annihiliate us all into oblivion. Those are my three reasons. :3

I first started off drawing fanart. It helped me start to develop my art skills, and then once I started to drift away and get my own ideas it was a good "krutch" to lean on when I had an artist block.

I usually do fanart now and then when I'm really impressed with an anime or anime character/game/movie/book ect.

Two main reasons:

-For fun
-'Cause I ain't got an origonal idea in my head (And when I get them, I use them for my art classes).

But mostly for the pure fun of drawing a character I like.

Around last year I was drawn into the world of anime and manga. I decided to draw some characters to express my fandom, usually offical chars and such. Now I usually draw original characters, and fanart once in a while. I enjoy drawing so much,I devote much of my spare time to it. It is something I can actually enjoy, even though I'm a terrible artist.
