Do you have a compound or single string bow? I'd assume compound but you never really know... _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

I prefer to use single string bows. It just feels right when you shoot an arrow. |

Compounds have a lot of power but bad accuracy
[ i don't know if mine is a recurve or called a traditional, someone in the shop said it was traditional but now thinking about it i heard recurve somewhere else  ] _________________ |

Hmm...I would have to disagree with that statement. Compounds do have a helluva lot of power....and ARE accurate in the appopriate conditions with good aiming. I do quite well with my compound. It's just that, sometimes, the power in it makes you overshoot or undershoot your target. You have to understand it's strength before doing a lot more.

I tried archery in the past at my camp. It's really fun. I don't know which kind of bow we used but they kinda are getting old and the strings aren't good anymore so the shooting is rather bad but's still really fun ^_^ _________________ A life with love will have some thorns but a life without love will have no rose |

Single string was probably the case. Compound have the habit of killing people. I loved camp--bb guns and archery were the best part. Heh-heh...Shooting stuff...and it's perfectly fine. :woot:

I have a feeling your friend should not get very close to anything that fires projectiles. Compounds (god, I'm just ranting about the damn things, aren't I?) are incredibly accurate and powerful---when used correctly. How did he hold the string? Because that makes all the difference. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

With three fingers like your supposed to  I think that is how your supposed to hold it. I found my bow a lot more accurate than his compound. And we were both using fibreglass arrows at the time. _________________ |

Dat's good. I was asking because some people have an annoying habit of pinching the notch when they put it on the string....therefore leading them to inaccurate shots.

Aha! That could be another reason. Fiberglass is lighter; and thus makes it harder to make an accurate shot because you have to, when you aim, shoot lower or higher than the desired target in order to hit it.
Like water ballons. They pop when I hit them. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

They were the only arrows we had ever used before so it wasn't like we were used to any other type. I use wooden now though but I haven't used the bow in ages as the is no club here and I probably wouldn't join anyway  .
For me the single string is more accurate and it still has a lot of power but its like 5 ft. 5 inches, whereas the compound is a lot smaller. My bow looks cooler though _________________ |

I've always been interested in archery, unfortunately i've never tried it before (i draw people shooting arrows a lot though, but none are in my gallery) Me and some of my friends are trying to find a instructor over the summer^^ Archery, the idea of it makes me want to try it out so much! |

Archery aint fun and games, heres a painful exaple. on a compound bow, you change the poundage (weight when pulled) by messing with the wheel at the top (i dont know how, as i have a recurve), a non profesional tryed it, the wheel flew off, hit him in the face, he never woke up, ever!
Belive it or not, but it's true _________________ |

Archery is an ancient sport that is use to train soldiers. From what i heard,Archery requires dexterity and strength, errr i meant it is fun to launch arrow and hit the target.
Now here's a suggestion to duck hunters everywhere.Don't use a rifle.Try to use a Bow and arrow to hunt the ducks. It's silent and cheaper than using bullets and rifle.
BTW,why they did not include the use of crossbow?Crossbow lauches arrow too. |

Yes, but crossbow and bow are different creatures. They throw the same projectiles, but in many states crossbows have been outlawed.

Hmmm...I find it a little hard to believe, actually...Though I know from experience that dry-firing hurts like hell. It's not the same, but nevertheless, it hurts... _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

We had archery for a couple of weeks in gym. I was no good at it, becuase my upper body strength = zero. I could barely pull the string back. 0.0 _________________ 222.

That's sad...but you also could be holding the bow the wrong way. I used to hold it like a saw in teh movies, when you pinch the notch, and when I tried pulling back, I barely could.
And den I realized how to properly hold the bow and I was like...ooohh... _________________ What does it all MEAN? |
