I'm surprised Brokeback mountain didn't win for best picture, but oh well. I am SO pleased that March of the Penguins won for best documentary. I <3 teh penguins. And Reese Witherspoon's win for Best Actress was pretty predictable. _________________ |

There is a reason Brokeback Mountin didn't win. Crash is a much better movie. I've only seen Crash and Brokeback out of the nominated films, but Crash was about 100 times better. Crash deserved to win.
Reese Witherspoon shouldn't have won best actress. If hers was the best out of the other nominees.... ouch. _________________ |

Agree. There were other, much more amazing performances beside Witherspoon. I don't know why she was chosen. Though it was a good role, I don't think she had to be uncomfortable to do it. Good roles should make you step outside yourself and work to become the character.
Example: Felicity Huffman--Transamerica. Though I'm usually not into this thing, she played a transexual male who just found out he has a son. It was brilliant. Really an amazing role for her. I was impressed.
Crash deserved to win. It was done beautifully and I think confronted more prominent issues in society than Brokeback did...in a sense. Though I was surprised that the raved about "Brokeback Mountain" didn't win, I was very happy that Crash won. It was an amazingly disturbing and gritty movie.
March of the Penguins SOOO deserved that academy. They were so cute.
Wallace and Gromitt also won an award it deserved. That was a cute movie.
Umm...Good for Seymour for winning the Best Actor. The guy normally has this amazingly deep, gravelly voice, and listening to him make it as high pitched as it is in that movie is quite impressive. He really did act like the Capote I've read about. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

Everyone around here thought Crash was shit. My professor looked about ready to shoot up the Academy that, if Brokeback wasn't chosen because it was the favorite, that they picked Crash over much better films like Capote.
And I am inclined to agree.
The Academy sucks anyway and is so political that they might as well put the awards up for auction and make a bit of money out of the studios bidding on them. It'd be easier. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Touche. Capote was good.
I do think that one of the reasons that Brokeback didn't win was, you're right, a political thing. I mean, the IDEA that a movie about two gay lovers is just so DISGUSTING to some viewers that they will VOW to boycott the system from then on. It's stupid. I don't even watch the Oscars anymore because it's just a bunch of egotistical celebrities patting themselves on the back. There were some good movies, but it doesn't matter. The Oscars in general suck. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

Ludacris(Chris Bridges) was there...
YayYayYayYay!!! Crash won. It's obvious from the start. Philip Seymour Hoffman was really lucky to have won by acting as another "extreme" personality, like Jamie Foxx last year who starred as Ray Charles in Ray. I'm not surprised though that Brokeback Mountain wasn't victorious...hmmm. Everyone in our college dept. hated it. _________________ --Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas. I don't really watch them. The films I see are never picked, and the only actors or actressess I like are never chosen. The Acadamy are looking for damn artistic films, or ones that just push the line for film making. They don't care what's good. In fact, if a movie's won an oscar, it's probably boring as hell.
Hence my suprise to see Brokeback Mountain not win that oscar. Not that I could care less. I have no intention to see that film.
Why did Witherspoon win that Oscar? She's not even that great an actress...she has too little range or anything. Pretty bland. But then again, as anyone who's seen my profile should know, I am a fan of Keira Knightley, so my oppinion may be a little biased.
I'm suprised Serenity didn't even get any nominations. That's definately the best film of last year. But, no. No matter how enjoyable or original or inovative...it didn't get jackshit. The least it could have had was best director. _________________ You'll get a PS3 for this game...
