Art Lesson Plans

I have this preclinical teacher's class at college which is basically where go observe teachers on their teaching methods and such for about 50 hrs, but in there are also a few other strings attached. I forgot to look at the class syllabus and just now found out that I need to make up 4 lesson plans and teach them by the end of the semester! OH GOD WHAT WILL I DO! Thankfully, common sense took over and I thought of FAC and surely they'd have some good ideas...I hope.

Now the topic is about art lesson plans b/c at the moment I'm only observing art teachers...the art teacher that is letting teach in her class is a middle school teacher and the grades that I observe w/her are two 8th grades and a 6th grade. They're class periods are 1hr 30min long, but she said I could use as much time as I wanted.

The first lesson that I was planning to teach on was how to make origami...granted several origami pieces, but it was something I always enjoyed when I was smaller....not only that, but sometimes origami can get kinda challenging and I'm hoping that it can keep the kids' attention b/c they do like to talk alot... <_<

That's all I have so far though...I'm just fresh out of ideas...my creativity has been on vacation recently. <_< If anyone has even a snippet of an idea...please OH GOD PLEASE...send it my way. Any ideas at all would be much appreciated b/c it's my grade on the line...I just don't function well under deadlines...damn stress. <_<

You want to teach them something challenging and time-consuming? I have one word for you: stippling. *evil grin* Though I doubt they'd take to that.

What about calligraphy? Let everyone pick a letter from the alphabet that they can stylize as much as they want. Should preoccupy them for a while, anyhow.

There's something I remember doing when I was in middle school that was fun and time consuming.

Make them write their name (each on a separate sheet) on a long sheet. the name has to cover it all and they must do something creative out of it. I've seen some pretty good example in a class. Probably took lot of time (alright... It was done by a teacher and it was "technologie" that was written on it because it was in that class but still. It was awesome)

What gets me to the second idea. Same process but you draw a straight line across the sheet, in the mind on the lenght side and they have to write their name on the line, than upside down under the line.I remember them making us drawing robots with that.

And at last. You can take pieces of black paper, color shalks and make them draw a character they make up using only 3 colors.
It's very interesting to do and can help them realise they can draw something nice and interesting with a small amount of colors.

well first you should see what thier having trouble with and what thier good
work on thier downs and then improve what thier good at

Mrs. Hout's just awesome...she really liked my idea about origami and wants me show her the lesson plans when I'm done w/them.
I was thinking a presentation on the origins and history of origami then, I'd teach the kids how to do an

origami fish

Not exactly a long lesson plan...maybe 20 minutes at most, but the art teacher wasn't concerned w/how long it took...I think I'm ready for this.

Aurora, Miya, and miko: thanks for all the helpful tips and I'll be sure to take them into careful consideration when I make my next lesson plan...but please if anyone has any other good ideas...be nice...share
