I remember when I first started watching anime, my mom hated it. She thought they were just badly done cartoons but now she watches almost everything I do. I won't say her age but she's definately not a teenager and still she likes to watch anime. To me any age goes. _________________

That's just too funny ...not to disrespect your mom, but I would just flip if my mom started watching anime w/me...I just can't see her doing it...she's just way too into God to think about anything else I guess. |

Look im 14, i get treated like an adult all the time, and like you say when it comes to manga your a small child, in many of your eyes i am.
Think of it this way are games and toys (and anime) for small children? (rhetorical question) well some are but with manga no, people draw manga therefor most of them like manga, and kids dont draw manga for a living. Also take the origional NOM team (Nintendo Official Magazine), they were all adults yet they all loved pokemon, now ask anyone here wots wrong with that? again most would reply nothing, but if you ask 20 typical adults that question 19/20 would say its for young teens, then make them watch a movie like Akira they would be saying "i would never show my little *insert name here* that film"
so what im trying to say, people who draw manga must like manga, and adults only think manga is childish when its a U, PG and possibly 12/12A. _________________ |

I'm only 15, but I'm already feeling lame to be associated with it. Hmm...thinking about it...I'd say that you can watch what you want. Come on, we're free to have our own opinions right? So why not watch it at whatever age you are.
The thing is, our societies today see anime as lame and strange, but that's because they've only seen those major animes, such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh (sucks, in my opinion. Sorry. Watched it, but then saw how lame it was. "Nooo!" *insert pose* "My cards have been defeated" *insert another pose* "And now I am dying...." *pose*). I've seen FMA, Inuyasha, Digimon, and Trigun and read Naruto and Rave Master. They're pretty good ones, but only those who care to know about anime really know that. They tend to generalize, and even people who read/watch anime do too. Bug-eyed or any other detail that resembles the generalized anime suddenly becomes anime.
Sometimes I feel proud, but at school I feel that saying I have any association with it makes me like some stupid "OMG! Soooo kawaii! Banzai! Connichiwa! Blahblahblah!" kinda person. Those kinda comments/posts annoy the heck outta me. I tend to only tell my close asian friends. Now, I'm starting to make fun of anime (haha! Kappa Mikey on NickToons, true of those rather expressive situations in anime).
I'm getting more into american comics and cartoons. Yet I still draw anime because it's easier than drawing as realistically as American comics. I bet I'll still be drawing anime (or at least my own style of it) later on in my life, so there isn't a real age to stop. It just gets lots of resistance as you reach some points in life. Oh, and the fashions of society also play a key role in determining the beginnings of resistance. Maybe, in the future anime will be more adopted into society as somewhat cool like comic books have, what with Marvel making them into movies with famous actors.
...Wow, never wrote so much in one forum post yet. Bet you guys aren't that bored to read all that. ~_~ _________________ Left for FAC, Right for DA |

ok im 15...yeah i know..but i still know what im talking about lol.
but i think that anime is just like any other form of entertainment.....if you like it..then you like it.
associating the word "cartoon" to anime kinda makes me mad becuase people view cartoons as for little kids. but truth to tell...the majority of anime is most definatly not for kids.
^^ so be proud of liking it...and if you dont want others to know...dont tell lol
what they dont know wont hurt them lol *evil laugh*

Once someone was mocking me for watching anime, I showed them one episode from Evanglion and it never happened again. As long as you're watching age appropriate anime you should never be ashamed. |

No age is to old. There are plenty of series, movies, etc out there in Anime that are produced specifically for adults (and I'm not talking about hentai).
Ok, so people might think you're a little weird, its their loss ^.~ |

Everyone thinks just because the stories are drawn pictures and some have big headed chibi characters that they are atoumaticaly children material. This is completely false. There are some That should never be shown to a kid under 13. Trust me the'll give more then nightmares to naive children. _________________

I'm 16 and man some of that stuff DOES give me nightmares...yet they say its just for kids. There are different genres of anime and such. Anime I think is just like any other cartoons they can be fun like Nemo or scary like Drawn Together. o_O except in anime terms. fun like Yotsuba&! or scary like Battle Royale.
Its just an opinion, who cares what you like?People shouldn't be judged on their maturity by what they like, besides you should never lose your inner child |

I think there're some animes that I may never want to watch b/c they might give me nightmares...pretty funny huh...but I'm just kinda happy w/a little semi-violence and romance mixed in...I don't think I'd really ever go looking for something really hard core. B)

I am 16 & I am still obsessed over Digimon: Digital Monsters.
A lot of people are on to me because they think it's for kids. I personally think even though shows like that MAY not be for kids back in Japan, it's still really great anyways! I think like a child a lot anyways. ^_^ |

I'm 17 and I still like Digimon. D: I don't obsess over it anymore, though. I don't really have any obsessions at the moment. :/ Just "ohyeah I'm in that fandom, yup".
People who knock Digimon are sad. Unless they're talking about Frontier. I'm sorry, but Frontier ruined it for me. _________________ FAC |

Just wanted to comment that DiGi Charat (at least, the REAL DiGi Charat, not Panyo Panyo) is not little-kid-oriented. They cuss, they scream, they do disturbing things like have men in their twenties fall madly in love with five-year-olds. They crash spaceships into the earth, throw garbage at dinosaurs, and shoot each other at every opportunity.
Not exactly little-kid-oriented, you know? _________________ Disgaea's Overlords Dance in Worlds Beyond Infinity while Mifuyus Magical Multiplying Mole reads the epic Chronicles of Yord, and you learn that your Craving for Finding a Heart of Snow is Taboo in VG unless you dare undertake The Combine of Sin... |

From the tone of this thread I would assume most of you are open about the fact that you are an anime enthusiast, but I am sure there are pleanty of people out there who hide the fact that they watch anime. What do you think about those people? Which is more embarrasing - to like anime openly and have everyone think you are a geek, or to hide the fact that you like it showing that you believe yourself to be a geek? |

I think that people who hide it are really worrying about nothing. I've never been made fun of for liking anime. Some specifica anime interests of mine have caused a few people to raise an eyebrow (YGO, for example), but you know what? F*ck 'em. I have my group of friends, so I don't need to try and assimilate myself into what everybody else likes. Because if they're trying to fit in or something, they're coming about it pretty wrong. It's just a hobby, and, frankly, I wouldn't want to fit in with the types of people who make fun of people just for their hobbies (or make fun of them for anything, really). _________________ FAC |

Except I'm not addicted. Was in my younger years, but now I seem to have mellowed out. _________________
