I always have the tendancy to procrastinate when it comes to homework. I don't know why but I always have an excuse to do it. Anybody have any advice on how to get rid of the habit of procrastinating? Please help!

Take away any distractions. TV on? Go somewhere else. Next to the PC? Don't even think about it.

You're not the only one. I'm always fully committed to doing all my homework, so it always gets done no matter what... but it means late hours for me.

But I'm used to it, so I doubt you should even try.

Do what Craig said. Don't touch the TV/Video Games/Computer till you finish. I find that putting on music provides ample "distraction" but not enough to turn me away from doing work.

Don't do your homework at home...too many distractions by far and it only gets worse as you get older <_< ...try going to the library or if you really do have to do it at home try doing it when no one's around...I like to do my homework really early in the morning around 3 am...oh my Smile most peaceful part of the day...and watching the sunrise is so relaxing Smile

When you said you do your homework at 3 A.M you mean you do it so that way no one knows or do they already know? I'm a heavy sleeper so I can't wake up at a time like that. Have an idea?

Hon, I'm college and my schedule's a lot different than yours ^_^ naturally I do it then b/c it suits me w/night classes and classes after lunch....probably wouldn't work for you b/c you're still in school.

My advice is probably like everyone else's try and find a quiet spot to concentrate on your homework...try making a list of when what homework is due when that way you know how long you put something off...sorry I can't be of more help. Sad

I too need Procrastination Neutralization..

But tips that I do not follow that both you and I should!:
Turn off all distractions.
Put away all food
Get off the internet or disable it...(no! I cannot do this because FAC is addicting...Surprised)
If you're an artist, put away all scratch paper and artistic utensils.
Keep telling yourself if you don't get it done, then you fail the world, or else use other people as motivation (as in, if you don't do it, then your teachers or parents will yell at you and you will FAIL!)

Is that any help?

Don't do what I'm doing right now.

Also, set half-hour incriments for yourself. Work hard for 25 minutes, then rest for five: reward yourself. Maybe go outside once in a while -- fresh air is good for you!

Sounds good to me. However like Pauline said, some of these tips are hard to follow when it means getting rid of everyting that distracts you. It hard to do when, for example, you have a homework assignment that invloves the internet. Oh well, I'll give your tip a try gothic_ginny

If you have even alittle bit of free time during class, like after you've finished the assignment, try to work on your homework alittle bit. That way you don't have as much to do when you get home, and it takes less time. that's what I do. ^^

how odd that there was an episode of "ned's declassified school survival guide" about this very subject yesterday! Here's what you should do

let your procrastination work for you: do the fun things first, and the long, laborious, painstaking parts after

there were other tips as well, but that was the only one I could remember.
