f**k quality, you dont see me making threads about Beethoven or Amadeus, its whatever rocks your fuckin socks, right? I can listen to mcr turned up loud just the same as gnr. why can't you just let people enjoy what they want to? stop pushing your own crap on them, the last thing we need are a bunch of fallens running around with a bunch of tylers following right behind like puppies. just let people enjoy what they want to, no matter how terrible it might be.
Hate to say this but I agree with James on this. I'm getting like really bored with the fact that the Music section is becoming like this repetitive place where "Rock beats all! Omg! Quaility over anything!"
I understand that this place can't be a place for verbal masturbation either but I don't really see a problem with letting kids have their McR thread to talk about why they like them.
If you want to talk about quality of a band, make a thread about just that. That way, people won't get offended because then they're expecting a debate and disagreements. It saves time and pissed-off emotions that get wasted on younger kids who don't know any better.
But if a kid is making a thread that just wants to talk about a new album by a band then for God's sake, let the kids talk about their album. I understand that McR is technically not as good of a band as GnR or David Bowie. A lot of people do. But some people just like a band for the wild and crazy idea that they just enjoy the sound of the band.
For example, I'm going to make a really dirty confession right now actually. I like Fall Out Boy songs. I find their songs catchy and fun to listen to from time to time. Sure, there is no way that they're on the same level of talent as Black Sabbath but I don't care about that nor do I need a lecture about why Black Sabbath is better than Fall Out Boy.
All in all, I'm just proposing that the bashing of bands just stop, especially if the thread topic is not asking about the quality of the band. Let the little ones have their one McR-rave thread and one Fall Out Boy thread without it leading to "This band is not good because Point A, Point B, and Point C" and then the thread starter gets offended and pissed off and starts flaming. I'm sick of it.

I think James needs some happy pills since he's been an incredible bitch all week. That's my job, stop butting in.
Yadda yadda yadda propose no more band bashing...
And I veto it. 'Cause I can do that. ^_^
Sure, kiddos can talk about their sh*tty bands all they want, but after the four posts of "NEW MCR ALBUM!" "HELLZ YEAH!" "IT'S GONNA BE SOOO GOOD!" "YEAH!!!", the end. They can go on their merry little way having said everything there is to say about that topic.
And then.
My turn. And Tyler's turn. And whoever has more than four brain cells and working hearing. It's not about changing what they listen to, I couldn't care less. It's about the quality of a band and why. Crap bands are more fun to talk about than awesome bands 'cause there's more to say, but the same can be done for really great bands too. Slash's guitar playing is not technically that good if you look at it from a theory standpoint. His knowledge of scales and major and minor and harmony was lacking.
As I've said before, unless these people are in the band, it's nothing to them. And if they get offended by it, they should come up with logical arguments to defend them. If not, they can stfu.
And as I've also said before, if someone wants to go out and buy every Pretty Boy Floyd album just to bash lame bands I like and listen to, be my guest. They could use the royalties.
Oh, and anyone who likes fall out boy deserves a slow painful death. My roommate does. I hit her in the back of the head.

Why are kids these days hating on all the new stuff. My 17 year old brother is the same way. He only listens to GNR and Steve Miller. Myself, I like these bands too but I have my limits. I was talking to him the other day and he said he was going to an Aerosmith concert with Cheap Trick opening up for them. This is what young rebellious teens are into these days, Aerosmith? I mean, I listened to Aerosmith when I was 10 years old. I asked him "What the hell man. You want to make out with Steven Tyler or something?". I thought Aerosmith was strictly for the ladies but I guess I was wrong.
And with the new bands, why do people care if they are technically worse with their instruments than the older rock bands?
Basically a lot of the popular new bands like MCR and Fall Out Boy are a form of punk rock. Or from a group of music that has evolved from punk. Punk bands are generally not the greatest musicians. Punk music was basically about screaming, snarling, and generally just banging on your instruments.
Do you think Fall Out Boy cares if Slash could do a better guitar solo than them or that David Lee Roth can hit higher notes than them. They would probably be the first to admit that they can't do that. They are doing what they want selling records, rocking the crowds, and giving their fans what they want. Maybe people would rather not listen to music about heroin or coke or other things from the hard living bands of the past.
So bottom line, people need to stop hating on the newer rock groups out there right now. |

HAHAHAHA! Shit, dude, you gotta get outta this forum if you're gonna say stuff like that.
I'm not gonna bother writing my "what punk was" lecture again 'cause you won't read it, but it CERTAINLY wasn't that.
And Fall Out Boy and MCR and all the rest have NOTHING in common with punk aside from a lack of musical skill. Which was NOT what punk was about, it was just a single trait.
Aerosmith was mainly for dudes until they started with the power ballad stuff. Far from a chick band. Bon Jovi and Def Leppard are chick bands. Aerosmith wasn't.
I can't even process the rest of that paragraph. Makes me laugh too hard. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Hey. I said punk rock. I like to think that punk rock and punk music are two different genres. Punk rock being rock with punk influences. There's definitely a big difference in my mind. |

Too bad there's no actual distinction, since "punk rock" is what punk was often called... like "alternative rock" being shortened to alternative and "industrial rock" shortened to industrial...
I can send you two of their albums. (Whipped!, Wake Me When it's Over)
Eesh.
Not that both of those aren't fantastic, but how can you have both of those and not the self titled debut? The self titled debut is brilliant. Not a bad track on it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

...yum.
My brother totally permanently killed Riders of the Storm for me.
For, like, two weeks, he had that song playing constantly from his room. _________________

Can't we all just get along?
Ok, I'm kidding.
But everyone has to understand that people have different taste... and that most of the Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance fans were either not around during the golden age of music... or just don't care.
Like... me, MCR is one of my favourite bands and I'm... *ehem* fairly young and don't know any better music... and I know I could research it but... why not just go with whats right there? And besides, music is changing a lot and so are people's tastes... (and I don't think its all about mainstream... I liked MCR before "I'm not Okay (I promise)" or "Helena" hit the charts... Because, there are great bands that aren't/never have been mainstream)
And Life on the Murder Scene is just a behind the scenes DVD with a few tracks that didn't cut MCR's CDs. But I know I'm going shopping....
Punk/Punk Rock are the same... too many little sub-divisions of rock... >.>
"MCR is emo!" "No! Mcr is Rock" "punk rock" "pop rock" lets just say everything is Rock. >.> (yes... I know, there are differences between the sub-genres and its very... irritating because people are so particular. I mean really, if it's good music, its good music.) _________________ Vampire Love, ooh, la la! |

But no one cares what anyone likes. It's that if someone says MCR is not a good/skilled band, you can't defend that with "but I like them". Ok, you like them, la di da. Say it once, then go away if you have nothing to add to the issue of their merit.
And I've never understood why that's so hard for people to grasp. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I'll just say that people are entitled to their own opinion...and now I really hope my head doesn't get bitten off now... ^^;
I've known about this album coming out for a while now....I don't see why so many people at my school consider it trendy...when it's just another new thing, that'll soon enough become quite old...they better get their kicks out of it while they can. |
