I stumbled upon this during some link surfing.
Wow... another dA-inspired layout, eh? Even their submission category heirarchy is the same.
I browsed their main site TOS (no surprises, pretty much the same as dA; only written less obfuscatedly), and their FAQ, which was pretty short. However, this one question on it was pretty interesting:
Q:
A list of other artcomunities
A:
Sheezyart
Deviantart
artuproar
Shadowness
Furaffinity
y!gallery
Side7
VCL
Fanart-central
Artwanted
Paperdemon
Artgrounds
DigitalArt
Yerf
Artaholics
YNA
Tixen
Gfxartists
Elfwood
Artvark
epilogue
Wow, that's quite a list. Aside from the ones we all already know about (dA, Sheezy), does anyone know about any of the others? _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I know that they suck and can't possibly compare to Fanart Central in any imaginable reality ever in the world of Galactus which is the Universe. |

Sheezyart - no need
Deviantart - no need
artuproar - digital art, but of course like the old DA has a traditional section among all the desktops and application skins. Bits and pieces of DA and FAC layout style, but nowhere near the userbase, so it's kinda...worthless except to look at your own stuff.
hadowness - dunno
Furaffinity - ew. The name makes me think of furry porn. Tiny, but last I heard you could still post smut and they hadn't run into the problems SA realized (why do all these kids think the "no porn" rule is just a bunch of people being mean? There's a very clear legal reason, idiots).
y!gallery - dunno
Side7 - Their layout has always bothered me. Dunno why. Just too boxy, I guess. Small userbase and rate of uploads, never seemed worth it.
VCL - Big furry site, 'nuff said.
Fanart-central - lolz
Artwanted - heard of it, know nothing about it
Paperdemon - dunno
Artgrounds - dunno
DigitalArt - A digital art community, I assume
Yerf - cutesy furry art. No porn allowed, last I heard.
Artaholics - really terrible art, not very many members
YNA - It's like the geocities template of art sites
Tixen - dunno
Gfxartists - Not bad. Big community, nice layout, and the level of work is pretty high. A lot of great names post there. It's directed more to pros and those of that level. Fun to look at.
Elfwood - Worthless. Crappy layout, crappy art, crappy staff, crappy system. Put it out of its misery already.
Artvark - no idea, gay name
epilogue - "fantasy at its best". I still read the forums, and the site is faster than it used to be. Some amazing artists (Kay Allen, Socar Myles, etc.), but most people on the forums...suck hard. They're helpful in the WIP forum at least, and I like the quality rules.
Additionally
Wetcanvas - Surprised this wasn't on the list, considering it's a huge collection of forums for every medium and subject and freakishly heavily populated too. I don't like the level of work. Too...middle age hobbyist, and no one will tell anyone they suck. Some good people, though, and a great resource for information.
Eatpoo - I love this forum. So much. Crazy good professional work, and the people are dicks. So if someone sucks, their thread is either closed or flushed to be spammed in the toilet forum. Fun. And complete eye candy.
Conceptart - Another good layout and high standards community. A lot of the same people post at all these. Love. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I'm tempted to join DeviantArt through sheer anger at Fanfiction.net not letting me upload anything or edit my profile. x-_-
The others I haven't the faintest idea. o.o _________________ Best Quote Ever: "B&."- Said by multiple people.

Can't say the art in Elfwood is to crappy. Have you seen some of the stuff there? It really rivals majourity of FAC for quality in artistic skills, majourity of them anyway.
But I have to agree with you. The lay and such are worthless. _________________ I came

DeviantArt?Too difficult to browse for lazy people. But good, good, resources such as Photoshop brushes.
SheezyArt?I don't know.
Oh, there's also Minitokyo. It's a site of around 200,000+ members. Anime-based community. You can find lots of nice wallpapers and vector art. Oh, and there's fanart too. Most is decent or good, but that's 'cause of strict quality guidelines. |

I'm fairly certain that y!gallery is a website specifically for yaoi art. I remember seeing a ton of teens on deviantart flipping out because they all got banned for being under 18 and had claimed they were 18. Pretty sure y!gallery was what that site was.
Elfwood was the first art site I really joined waaay back in the day (i'm thinking around 2000/2001). It was the first I found and I liked it back then but really, nowadays it really is in dire need of retirement. |

I wouldn't exactly call most of the art on FAC masterful either.
Of course there is a good gallery here and there, just as there are some great ones here, but it's mostly just little kids doodling. Compared to places like Eatpoo and ConceptArt, it's a bunch of kindergarten scribbling. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
