I'll probably go to some small school. Major in Spanish, and become that mean, cranky Spanish teacher that everyone hates...or disappear off the face of the earth. Haven't decided yet. _________________ I have magical female powers

Already going to Otis College of Art and Design. We don't really have colors. The logo/letterhead is usually blue. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Blue is a nice color, though...
Dartmouth/Julliard.
Yessssiree bob, two impossible schools to get in to.
One of the two. Either pianist or lawyer. Hmmm... _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

Any kind of school where there's an excellent art program is fine for me. My career choice is more or less in the fine arts/graphic design department. ^^ |

I already go to Sheridan in Ontario for animation... It's kind of like the Cal Arts of Canada... I think our colours are blue, yellow, and white or something. _________________

I want to go to the DigiPen institute of Technology in Washington. They have digital art programs and it is the best college for aspiring video game programmers. |
Otis? Ooh, I heard about that one. So, you liking it there?
It's amaaaaazing. The only people who bitch about it are the ones who want the "college experience" with dorm rooms and drunken frat parties and all that, but it's art school, whadda ya expect? 1000 students, roughly 11-15 per class, awesome staff. Fun fun.
And so focused on careers, even in fine arts. I've got both my advisement meetings scheduled in the next two weeks, so they make sure people are getting the right education for whatever they wanna do.
It's unfortunate not as many [non-industry] people are familiar with Otis as they are Art Center and CalArts and Pratt and the like.
And Art Center is overhyped. You get the same education at pretty much any of the top schools (Otis, Pratt, RISD, etc.), and the method is flawed, in my opinion. The head of the Interactive Product Design department here sent out a survey to a bunch of companies and design firms, and one of the main responses he got back was "Art Center kids can draw like crazy, but they draw bad ideas".
You can look at a portfolio and know immediately that it's an art center student. Not that that's a bad thing, but I get so tired of seeing them on various forums. The concept art sheets and the environment paintings... bleh.
Anyway. It's real good. And I'm not saying it 'cause I'm now literally paid to say it. lolz
I will never understand why people go to those Art Institute of ____ schools. Former friend of mine just enrolled at one. Don't get it. Crap school, nothing will transfer to a real college, no job placement...waste of money. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

That's why you go to the best schools, get the best portfolio ready, and make the best connections.
A lot of the comm arts and digital juniors and seniors here are already working for places like EA Games (which is right down the street anyway) as concept artists and story board people.
And a lot of people who major in art decide to go into other fields anyway when they find the lifestyle isn't something they want.
It's competetive, but so is any profession. It's not like...being a vet, for example. It's easier to get into med school than vet school. Too many people, not enough demand. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Well, I guess to stay on subject...
I'm first going to have to go to City College. My grades in some of my classes (math, chemistry, etc.) weren't so hot. Enough to graduate high school, but not what colleges are looking for.
After about a year or so of that, I'm not sure what college I'll go to. I really don't want to stay in town, but I'll probably wind up going to UCSB whether I like it or not. It's close to home, and the only other place I'd feel comfortable moving away to doesn't really have that many good colleges, unless I'd like to become a physicist or a chemist (*cough* New Mexico). I think, after a lot of debates with myself ranging from the stupid to the impossible, I settled on a more realistic decision that I'd be both capable of and enjoy, and that's to be a teacher. Preferably for 11th or 12th graders, because at that age, they're not only starting to become more mature, but you can also screw with 'em.
I hear UCSB has a good teaching program, so that may just be where I wind up going anyway. Not sure about their English or History programs, so I'll have to check into those. But those are the two things I'd enjoy the most. Preferably English, but History would be fun too. I'm sure everyone can imagine me having my fun in the WWII unit. 8)
Hawhaw, my friends lack faith in me. They say I'd wind up being like Yukari from Azumanga Daioh. 8D _________________ FAC |

Meh, I'm at Heriot Watt Uni. It's a good laugh, and the union's a good place to go for a drink. Someone stole an entire ATM machine in the first term though. _________________ "You know what? My squirrel instinct tells me he's even more of a bastard than I first thought." - Gene Hunt |

I was going to go to Ringling School of Art and Design, but decided not to. I even went down there and showed them my portfolio and was approved to get in...but I just didn't. I work fulltime nowadays so I'd lose a lot of my income and my boyfriend who lives with me would also lose his income because we would have to move about 2 hours away. Albeit, that's not the biggest move ever but it's just a pain to go job seeking again. So, I didn't go there.
I'll probably end up going back to the community college here. It's within walking distance of my apartment and I wouldn't have to quit my job. One day I might end up moving up to Gainesville and going to the University of Florida to start my bachelor's degree, but I need to finish my associate's degree first. heh. Don't even know what I want to do career-wise, so that makes for a lack of motivation to go back to school. |
