My scanner just tried to eat my drawing. After making a scan of the (as yet uncolored) pencil sketch, I lifted my sketchbook off of the scanner glass as per normal, and....

The paper tears. Now I have to deal with a 3-inch long rip going right through the middle of the drawing. The drawing isn't even finished yet....

A vertiable disaster, yes?

So what do you do next? Where do you go from here?

That's right, I'm talking YOU. What's the worst disaster (i.e. physical mishap or tragedy) that's happened to your art in the past? Were you able to recover/repair it, or did you have to let it go and/or start over again?

Owie. o.o Maybe there was something sticky, like spilled pepsi or something, on the scanner and you didn't know?

I don't have a scanner, myself, so I use a digital camera. Sadly, said camera broke. -.-;

That never happened to me. I that happened however I'd just tape the paper together.I don't care. Ripped or not, it's going to be traced over in Photoshop.

:0 Well, "tracing over" in PS isn't going to help Strata much because all his works are pencil/pencil crayon. But it can be fixed, no worries. I used to do a lot of art cleaning/editting, and all I have to say is that Strata, you'd better get nice and friendly with the clone brush, assuming that GIMP has it. X3

As for the worst thing to happen to my art...? Er, once I had a few pieces stolen at school. Never saw it again. :/ People used to put greasy fingerprints on it, too. Since then, I rarely let people see my sketchbook. As for other stuff, I paint, and paint can always be fixed by painting over, so no worries there.

Oh, wait.

Last year, I was making a dragon sculpture out of clay, and before I got it fired/baked, I let two people handle it, and the next thing I know, it was in approximately 6 pieces, and one of the horns was missing. :S No more clay work for me.

My pet lovebird enjoys nothing more than frilling paper, and on top of this he's rarely in his cage and kind of has free roam of the house. Many a time have I left a drawing where I was working on it and come back to find it reduced to a pile of what looks like Easter basket lining. He also likes jumping on top of things that I'm in the process of inking with a calligraphy pen and running back and forth through the wet ink.

No, I know exactly how it happened. The scanner glass is slightly recessed since it has the unit's plastic frame around it. The edge of the paper snagged between the glass and plastic frame, and decapitated the creature I was drawing in the process.

Yeah, I've had practice with Dodge/Burn and Clone tools. Probably won't need to use it very much though....

I remember when I was 12 or so, I had just gotten done with my first 'realistic' drawing (bought an awful how-to guide from the school book fair Rolling eyes ) and my little bro spilled red kool-aid on it. :/ Not fun at all.

Nowadays though, I just roll with wahtever happens. I have a friend who drew pentagrams, horns, moustaches, nipples, and pubic hair on EVERY pic he got ahold of, so I got used to having to fix my art. Thank God he only used pencil. I just don't get my sketchpad out around him anymore.

Hm. When I was 12-13, I was all into making up Zoids. Now that I look back on my old drawings of my made up ones, they were GOOD for my skill level. o.o; I don't think I could do that much detail even now.

Anyway, I made up this pretty spiffy bulldog looking Zoid. I was at Girl's Inc. I was rather stupid leaving it out, but I figured no one would touch it if I put my backpack next to it.

Alas, some little girls came back from a field trip to the strawberry farm and one of them decided to put her little green basket of strawberries right on my drawing, of all places. Needless to say, it was covered in red juice. D: I still have that drawing, actually.

I've had a lot of mishaps, but that one sticks out the most for some reason. Maybe it's because the girl was 9 years old. By that age, you should know the difference between people's stuff and a placemat. Neutral

Not long ago (a few weeks) a friend of mine wanted to see a drawing I was working on and wanted to point something. as bright as she can be, she rubbed her finger all over the detailed spots. Took a good while to fix things <_<

And I used to have a lovebird that loved munching at paper. If I ever forgot a sheet or something like that and the bird would get too it, it was 100% sure there would at least be a side or a part missing... And I forgot a few times >.>

At last, my sis was looking at my drawings in my agenda... I tried to take it away but it ended up I only pulled the drawing out (ripping it, of course ><)

Heh, someone who knows my pain. Lovebirds just are not pets that artists should have :P

But I miss my Axi bird and can't wait until I get to see him again ;_;

Now I know that I must treat my scanner with respect. The ripping of the drawing sounded quite painful. The fiendish scanner D': I hope you managed to solve the ripped drawing dilema.

The worst problem I've had is when I accidentally spilt tea all over a watercolour commission. >.O I'm never going to drink tea near paintings ever again. I eventually managed to cover up most of the stain with a mountain of paint, so all went well. : )

Was doing a request artwork for one of the FAC members. Was working late and was sleepy. I was just doing the final clean up before I had it scanned. Maybe I was really tired or I was just plain clumsy... spilled coffee all over the 98% finished work.

No way of fixing that one. I had to re-do the entire pic.

Well.. second worst i remember was my bro (who is 18 anyways) got bit crazy next to me while i was on home comp. There happened to be my scissors around on table and there were couple of my artworks under me arms. I putted other one into scanner and scanned it and kept other one pic faced down on paper. Well... bro freakened enough to think that paper were empty while i was typing describsion on other pic... He took the scissors and cutted it on table little by little.
I got annoyed from that voice and turned my head to see what he was doing. And i got shocked when i saw he cutted my drawing. Quickly i pulled that artwork away from him and looked at it with scared face and found out that i was able to tape it. This pic was Anthro Charizard pic, and you can still see that tape on it.

The worst was when i was totally sad and crying and ripped one paper into little pieces and threw into trash and cried rest of night. On the morning i looked in trash and saw some pieces of paper and realized that i had ripped one of my drawings. But gladly i found out in home that it was worse version from same kind of drawing and got cured from that shock it brought within.

I'd have to say when I was doing a wallpaper in photoshop and without my knowledge the computers were all being rebooted or something the next day due to a printing problem. Everything on my computer, songs, screensavers, wallpaper and even my files were gone.

That day was the worst day of my life....... over half a months work was gone and to never be seen again.
