So, everyone should've had to have read a few books in English or history or any other classes. If you did'nt...what's wrong with your school!??!?!

Which school books did you have to read?
Which ones did you like?
Which ones didn't you like?
What'd you like/dislike about it?

i love the history books, don't remeber what they were called but i loved them. I like to read about things that have happened and all the wars. One thing that really amused me sort of was how Canadians held cloths soaked in their pee to their noses to stay alive. The science books annoyed me though, i couldn't concentrate on it because i found it rather boring, even though i love science. I also really enjoyed a book in english called "The Giver" i found it very interesting because it is based in the future somewhat and how everyone is given a task for life. it was easy to read because we read it in grade 8 and it was probably at a reading level for grade 7's but the story was still very good. Romeo and Juliet is what we are reading in grade 9 right now and it is very boring. Romeo is a freakin' narcissist and Juliet only seems to care about sleeping with him. Its very stupid in my opinion. Everyone just ends up dying. Wink

Hmm... we had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in 9th grade and I completely despised that book. I don't know why I hated it so much but I just couldn't stand it. We also read Canterbury Tales in my senior year, which I did like. I think it just comes down to my personal tastes. I found To Kill a Mockingbird completely dull whereas, I thought Canterbury Tales was interesting. I actually loved Romeo and Juliet, but I like Shakespeare in general.

Books in school I liked:
Canterbury Tales
Romeo and Juliet
Beowulf

Books in school I hated:
Of Mice and Men
To Kill a Mockingbird
Huckleberry Finn (OMG I HATE THIS BOOK)
and some book about a dog that I can't remember

Apparently, I only enjoyed the books that didn't contain modern English.
Of Mice and Men
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!! DIE! DIE STIENBECK, YOU SCUMBAG! MY CHILDHOOD IS FOREVER RUINED!!!

I hate that book with a devine passion. Ew, yuck, puke, die.

To Kill a Mockingbird
Oedipus Rex
Taming of the Shrew
Beowulf
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Farenheit 451*
Animal Farm
The Odyssey
House On Mango Street

I HATED (obviously) Mice and Men. Oedipus Rex was about the same way. I'm sorry, but you can only get so far in depth about a guy screwing his wife-who-also-turns-out-to-be-his-mom before it just gets really, really gross. Beowulf was kinda cool....I HATED the Odyssey, I didn't like Odysseus at all, and I despised Animal Farm and House on Mango Street, which was distgustedly random. For Animal Farm, Orwell is overrated and I wish he would die.

Farenheit 451 though...*sigh* I love that book so much. It was brilliant. Really was not a waste of my time. I didn't mind (sorry Grimmy) TKAM very much, thought it was...okay, but I didn't like Shakspeare. He is not my forte.

Well, I actually didn't hate "Of Mice and Men". I didn't like the ending but I wasn't scarred for life because of it. I like the way Steinbeck tells stories, even if they are depressing. I also liked "The Grapes of Wrath" even though that ending sucked.

However, I absolutely despised "A Farewell to Arms". Everything about that book made me want to kill Hemingway. I don't care what anyone says, "A Farewell to Arms" is like porn written by a third grader if a third-grader knew anything about sex.

On the other hand, I loved "The Scarlett Letter." I love Hawthorne's writing style, and the characters were awesome.

"Scarlet Letter": tried reading it last year, freshman year, and I couldn't understand anything. To me, it was dry and boring. There was a random comet shaped like an "A" for crying out loud!!!

"Of Mice and Men": Lenny! I love him. I thought the book was good, and even better, it was short!

"Animal Farm": hilarious. What can be funnier than a pig named Napoleon!

"A Farewell to Arms": Didn't make a big impact on me. Not so great. Rather strange and the main character is like a brick, or a rock, or some other inanimate object. Stupid stupid...

"The Odyssey": Long, some parts gross, some parts good, some parts strange, some parts exciting. I thought it was rather good! :D

"Farenheit 451": Awesome. Short and makes you think. They had rooms where the walls were TVs!!!

"1984": disturbing yet good

Shakespeare: I love his plays. They're filled with subtle humor that makes me want to memorize it....What? Uneasy

we have had to read:
ovids metamorphisis
the bacachi -euriphidies
molly sweinie
comedy of errors
a worn path
and a bunch more plays...

yeah, i didn't even try to spell the titles and i liked all the things we read, however my english teacher just happens to love to kill all of them by things like "the Lyc in Lycaon and the Cyl in cylenie are important due to the fact that lycaon turns into a wolf and cylenie is a place that was known for vicious people" every other word.

ps. the lyc cyl thing came from ovid

Here's all the books I remember having to read at high school, mainly during the later years.

To Kill A Mockingbird
Romeo & Juliet
Fahrenheit 451
Golden Apples of the Sun
Slaughterhouse 5
Streetcar Named Desire

Some were chosen by myself for projects and stuff, others were the set materials.

The book I had to read was called "Holes' and that was the only interesting book I ever read in school other than that the other ones were boring though. <_<

It seems like this year almost every book we have read had some kind of incest in it.

Lets see I had to read "Frankenstein" and I hated Victors narration but the monsters... Gray Wub was superbly poetic. Too bad it only lasted a few chapters.

This year's of required reading are all depressing and sad:

Catcher in the Rye
Of Mice and Men
All Quiet on the Western Front
Antigone and Macbeth (I thought they were pretty funny, but they're tragedies, so they are sad)

...You DO know what the deeper meaning behind that book was, don't you? It's not at all supposed to be a comedy.

Mm.. Required to read.. most of what was listed above. Liked Beowolf, Scarlet Letter. Liked Fellowship of the Ring.. but I'd read that before we had to read it over the summer so uh. Yeah. Mm. I disliked Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird. Which was weird cause.. it seems like everyone I know liked those. Mm. I also liked.. The Jungle. Brave New World was okay. Death of a Salesman is evil. Evil I say!

I'm in year seven so I've only gotten one book so far (Its term 2 right?)
It's called Hatchet and I hate it to death. I don't know why, I just hate it. In my english class somebody told me it was a fad to say that the book is lame, but I sincerely do think the book is tardificated.
