Besides from your tendency to spam and curse, I totally agree with you. I think it has something to do with their favorite characters and stuff like that, but I'm not sure. |

First of all, drop the attitude or I'll drop it for you.
Second, people say it's good because they don't want the artist to be pissed if they say otherwise. It's unfortunate, but the majority of younger artists don't take constructive criticism well. Then again, if your criticism is phrased at all like your forum behavior, I wouldn't blame them. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. I'll assume that was a joke, but that was far from the best first impression you could have made. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Hey, if he asks for it, why not give it? Come on Fallen, you know you want to.
Nobody wants to hurt someone else's feelings, especially because they're probably sensitive about it if their art is truly less than par. You either move on, or post some constructive criticism. Posting a spammy thread about how "OMG IM SO PISSSEDOFF THAT PEEPLE SUK" isn't exactly the best way to deal with it. It is, however, a good way to make people hate you or get yourself banned. |

I very rarely ever comment on work I don't like. When I do I'll say something along the lines of "that's an improvment". And I get a lil annoyed when someone comes along and comments on my absolute worst piece of crapper work and says they love it and add it as a fav just because they like the character.... or when people add a fav just because the idea behind the drawing is good or funny.. when the drawing itself is horrible. That is what I find with my Spice Scouts pic. On Deviant art it has the most views and favs than any other piece in my gallery.. and it's one of the sh*ttiest ones I have. erg _________________ |

I can think of a few reasons:
1 - If they honestly don't like it, they won't bother to comment on it anyways.
2 - Saying that a picture outright sucks is likely to cheese some artists off, so they don't do it.
3 - Their level of artistic skill may be comparably equal to that of the picture they're viewing. I.e., someone who's never been beyond the boundaries of MS Paint will likely have a better opinion of MS Paint drawings than someone who's well-versed in Photoshop.
4 - If they're a rabid fan of the subject matter, they'll probably love the drawing even if it sucks. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Get in line.
The reasons Stratadrake gave is completely true. The people who respect the artist and the people who are of the same experience and level as the artist will comment as they understand.
Stop the immaturity, we didn't ask for it. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

What's up with that "f*ck you" post?!
Could also be that they really do think that the picture is good. I remember kids in like 6th grade saying that my drawings were really good, and I look back at them now and go "What is this crap I used to draw?!" They don't know that better art exists out there. _________________ 222.

He doesn't know.
I used to draw anime CONSTANTLY. Maybe someday I'll post them for laughs, but what is considered awesome to some, is not to others. Their work will be acknowledged by those who care. If you don't, then don't worry about it. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

2. You have no business to say anything like that. It only proves you're a pathetic lowlife. This forum isn't where you need to be. You don't need to be here period. Maybe Denis will see this topic. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

God, THANK YOU Kate. Thank you thank you thank you.
There should be a little pre-ban button. You press it the instant anyone starts acting like an immature prick and they get an electrical shock. XD |

Reading the responses of this topic's creator, it seems to me as if they only wanted to rant about the subject, and honestly did not want anybody to go explaining or discussing why. If that is so then they could have saved their breath and not posted this under a forum titled "Site Discussion".
At the most basic, most fundamental, core level, the reason why someone will give positive comments to a picture that another person would never, "even if it were the last one on Earth", ever say a single positive thing about, is simply because people have different tastes, likes, and dislikes. From that point, the reasons break off into different categories like skill, area of interest, courtesy/respect, etc.
Just because THEY don't approve of the picture in question, they have no right to damn those who do approve of it and say so.
Where's a "shaking one's head no" smiley when I need one? _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
