Fac's Slowing Down?

It seems as of late that FAC's getting a bit overloaded on the servers... When I try to browse around at night, it's basically impossible, [eastern time] as there are too many people on, and all of the pages take forever to load.
I've been reduced to just coming on to FAC earlier in the day, when at most 100 people are on, hopefully much less, as it gets hard to navigate around.

I saw the news, I know about the mozilla firefox thing. I actually do you IE myself, so I downloaded mozilla to try it out, but to be honest, I don't think it works too well. It seems to me as if mozilla still goes about this site rather slowly, if not the same as with IE.

So, is it because the servers are getting overloaded or somesuch? I remember this happening before in the past, and after you guys changed servers, it got better. Is that what we need to do here?
I mean, this site being so slow has only been so for a while, as before it used to be fine. I wouldn't mind sparing a few hours of downtime to change over the site, and I would really hope it can be a bit faster. :)

And I don't think this is just my comp., as I've tried it from different locations now with different computers. Even XP comps can't seem to speed things up much. :/

Well, not demanding anything to be done, but I'd just like to know if this has been noticed, and if anything can be done about it. Smile

its not because of the computers or the speed of your internet, its because of the amount of people that constantly dwell on FAC and watch your pictures, the more people online, the slower it is.

We have about 51100 artists, about 200 are online on rush hour, and we also have about 500 guests at a time, the site is growing, we need bigger and more servers..... the question is, how long until we get them?

What really chews the speed up is the searching and the generation of the thumbnails/pics... denis is trying to solve this but theres issues in the way.

Maxed out CPU issues.

I ordered another server 2 weeks ago and IT STILL ISN'T READY. These people providing it are so incompant they lost my creditcard auth form like 3 times. And they almost installed the wrong operating system (I shouldn't say almost, I dont know for sure yet wether they got it right) But, I think it should finally be ready soon which should fix some of the speed problems.

i had this same problem today. FAC wouldnt even load the home page! it said something about an error with the server

Ah, okay then. Sometimes, it's not so bad, so I'm sure we can get by. Smile

But new/more servers, yes, that'll be very nice.

Usually I'm on the most in the morning, but when I logged on at night, it's been kind of slow. For the sake of CSTDenis (and all the users here on FAC), I hope that server is ready soon.

I was noticing this not too long ago, and I also could only go on in the early morning. Any time after noon, it'd probably be too slow by then.

But I haven't experienced it for days now. Smile

cstdenis, another suggestion for a server is on DevShed Forums, there are hundreds of members who build servers and have their own hosting companies, all for fairly cheap. If you still need someone and you give me a list of exactly what FAC needs, price range, etc. I'm sure I could come up with a few offers.

(Oh, Tien, Firefox works perfectly, IE not only is unreliable, but horrible for your computer in the department of protection. If you really don't like Firefox, I would recommend Opera and get away from crappy IE. My 2 cents in that.)

Didn't check DevShed, but WebHostingTalk forums gave some good suggestions.

I ended up ordering a server from ev1servers who used to host fac about 2 years ago. I was quite happy with them then (only left because I found another cheeper solution).

The best part about them is server is setup immediately. I'm installing stuff on it now. Hopefully by morning search should be back and hopefully the whole site should be sped up some

And thanks for the tip too, GollumDragon, I have installed firefox, and it is faster, so I probably will be switching to it. :3

I'm just curious... what exactly is firefox, and what does it do?

Firefox is a web browser. Its faster and more secure than Internet Explorer.
