I suppose, if I get a chance, and the markers are cheap, I should probably get them...

I got a 48 box set of Primsacolor markers recently, still left unopen. I'm kinda afraid to use it as well, after hearing what you've all said about Prismas. Well, I guess I might as well use it, since I have it?

So, anyways, if we use the markers on sketch paper (I think I have the Canson brand or that one that starts with an "S"), will it look nasty? And then how about on printer paper?

Regular paper will soak up the ink and look streaky along with wasting ink.

Computer paper is a step up but overall bad quality. Either are ok for practice.

Marker paper lets the ink sit on the surface long enough to be smooth and blend.

Borden and Riley bleedproof paper for pen is slightly worse than say, letraset marker layout pad in terms of streak-freeness, but it's a lot thicker, and more compatible with pencil crayon on top.

same goes for Strathmore bristol smooth.

Canson canvas paper is interesting to try with markers, the marker ink goes on as if it's watercolor, but the hue changes greatly from the original color, so you are warned.

I went to 2 art stores, but I couldn't find any real marker paper. :S

I also have drawing paper by Strathmore, I believe. I suppose that wouldn't look too well either?

You can play around with other types of paper too, they can get interesting effects. like the paper in one of my sketchbooks bleeds just enough to do black leather and solid, cartoony colour well. The paper wasn't made to be drawn on with markers, but I like the way the finished product looks.

Markers NOT good to use (okay for a doodle; bad if you want to create a high-quality piece of artwork):

- Crayola markers (or any similar brand like Rose Art)
- Dry erase board markers
- Overhead projector pen markers
- Permanent markers
- Highlighters

Using tracing paper or notebook paper ruins the picture, I discovered many years ago when I was 9. Cool
