I own Spirited Away. I love Miyazaki! He's a genius. ^_^ I've only seen three of his movies though: Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke, and each of them is utterly amazing. I love them so much!

Because I had watched Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away beforehand, I was amazed at all the blood and violence in Princess Mononoke, but then I realized that, come on, Miyazaki has his reasons, so no worries. And all of his moves always turn out great.

What I find great is the detail. Like, Chihiro tapping on her shoes in the boiler room, and (I know this sounds gross, but true) the blood dripping onto the flagstones from Ashitaka's wounds. In some anime, you never get little details like that. But, for sheer beauty and breathtaking magic, Miyazaki's films take the cake! ^_^

I love the theme Of flying in all of them. I also noticed the main charater is almost always a girl, any reason?

Maybe because it's just easier for him that way. Besides, the girl in Spirited Away is based on a ten year old daughter of a friend of his. Apparently, they both have the same personalities and stuff, and that's why he did this-he wanted to make people appreciate the strength that children have inside of them. I think it worked. ^_^

I think Miazaki's (pardon the spelling)

are cool. i like the fact that the animation is so good. lots of details in every screen shot. and the storylines are good. I just watched Prences Mononoke last night.

The reason there is so much detail is because he refuses to use CG animation. All the cells are hand drawn. Nothing beats good old hard work.

I liked him too. I thought him finding who he really was at the end made it a great ending!

If you buy the DVD, it has behind the scene specials on the voice actors, and in the studio, where it shows Miyazaki talking with his animators and explaining how things should be. There's also a thing that shows the storyboard vs. the finished thing-it's pretty cool! You can switch back and forth between them as you watch it.

Has anyone watched it in Japanese? Yubaba's voice scares me! It's so much higher than the way she's voiced in English. Both Hakus have wonderful voices, however. I love watching Anime in Japanese, because the direct translation has things the dub doesn't.

Twas HOT. I absolutely LOVE Hayao Miyazaki's films, they are KICKASS. I liked Princess Mononoke best, second prize goes to Castle in the Sky, then Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Spirited Away comes last, but only because I've seen it so many times that I anticipate everything before it happens and I know all the character's lines. That got annoying. Laughing And yes, those are the only four I've seen. So sue me!
Best Male: I would TOTALLY give that prize to Kohaku of Spirited Away. Second goes to Prince Ashitaka in Princess Mononoke.
Best Female: Nausicaa in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Second prize is torn between San and her nemisis Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke.
Best Animal: I'd say the Forest Spirit of Princess Mononoke. Second is Nausicaa's pet rodent thing in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
Best Scenery: Castle in the Sky, hands down. Second is Princess Mononoke.
Most Memorable Characters: Spirited Away wins with Yuebaba, Zeneba, Chihiro, Kamaji, Rin, Kohaku, Noface, and all the rest. Second is definitly Castle in the Sky.
Biggest Enemy: Princess Mononoke wins, with a combo of Jigo and his men, the Boars, the Apes, that Lord Asano dude, and Lady Eboshi. Second prize goes to Castle in the Sky, with that dude who reminds me of Eugene in that game Evolution Worlds. Not to mention all his cohorts. What are your opinions for all these subjects? Best Male, Best Female, Best Animal, Best Scenery, Most Memorable Characters, and Biggest Enemy.

I've seen Spirited Away (of course. XD), Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and part of Castle in the Sky (only part since I'm trying to watch it online.) Agreed with Spirited Away, but, for some reason, I never get tired of that movie. Kohaku, he just rocks. His voice actors in both versions did excellant jobs. ^_^

What a change there is in the feel of each movie! Princess Mononoke makes you feel like it could really happen, somewhere on the other side of reality in a place very similiar to our own world. It feels familiar, almost. Kiki's Delivery Service is just cute, and makes you support the young woman who is reaching out on her own. Castle in the Sky I haven't seen all of, but it too feels familiar and realistic. And, Spirited Away . . . I dunno, I can't describe the feeling of that movie. Lighthearted, but deep at the same time. It makes you think.

Sorry for my rant. I just love Miyazaki! ^_^ Maybe we should rename this thread "Films of Miyazaki" instead of Spirited Away! ^_^

What I find funny is all the similarities in his movies:

-There's always a female heroin and a male hero/person she knows.

-The girls are always moderately young and change for the better as times goes on.

-There are always some sort of sidekicks! <333

-The heroin always ends up saving the hero

-There's ALWAYs a flying scene! ^^

There's more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
