The older cartoon movies artworks are better than the newer. Just classics.

The classics had so much more detail than the new ones. Also, the new cartoons are always trying to teaxh us stuff and that brings the overall feel of the cartoon down. *Sigh*, I miss the old ones. They were the best.

Man... Steamboat Willie. That's reeeeeeaaaaally old. I'm not saying I don't like it, I'm just stating that it's old. Man, I wish Disney was still like it was when it started.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah DISNEY! My childhood's dream, I'm applying to an animation school now, just to be able to fulfill my dream in becoming a Disney animator! *sigh*
I'm in animation school, and from what it looks like, Disney is not the company you want to work for these days. They had the industry days at the end of the year where all the different studios came in to explain what it's like to work for them and to sit in on a screening of the third-year films... It sounds like working for Disney is nothing but a lot of paperwork and abuse, and when they're done with you they just throw you out. At least studios like Pixar make an attempt to keep their crew working from project to project. (Pixar and Disney still operate like separate studios even though they've merged, one is union and the other is not, so it's one of those "And never the two shall meet" type setups)

Disney is not what it used to be, sadly.

And I have to disagree with whoever was saying oldschool Disney movies have more detailed backgrounds than the newer ones... you obviously haven't watched an old Disney movie for a while. Go dig out Snow White or something, there's no way you could get away with layouts like that in feature animation today. We had to do reproductions of Snow White Backgrounds for layout and painting once... they're not hugely impressive. A couple scenes even look... sloppy. A shot of Snow White sitting on the side of a well sticks out in my mind. They didn't use an overlay for the well, and Snow white doesn't register to it terribly well so you can tell that she was just drawn to it instead of behind it.

I know it was their first feature and they had to save money and all that, but to compare it to something like Brother Bear where they have like a dozen overlays just to make the grass move smoothly as they pan across it or Lilo and Stitch where they use all the same sort of budget-slicing tricks (watercolour paints and barely any overlays) without making it blatantly obvious... Well... I stand my ground that layout art in movies is getting better over time. Impressive for it's time, I'll grant.

I suppose it's all personal preference, though.

The golden age of Disney movies for me was in the early-mid 90's. All the ones that Katzenberg oversaw... Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, those kind... It may just be that those are the ones I have the fond childhood memories attached to, but you just don't get storytelling and traditional animation like that anymore.

Plus Glen Keene is a god among men.

But hey, those oldschool Mickey mouse cartoons... That was some wicked s**t right there. And they just cranked that stuff out. Ub Iwerks animated the entire Plane Crazy short in two weeks (or so the legends say)

I know what you mean Squidman, but still, Disney's a childhood's dream; it's just an honor to be part of a movie like Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, or even Home on the Range! Plus, I guess there's no 2D department at Pixar (I mean apart from the layout department and stuff like that), and I'm mostly interested in 2D Animation.

Disney actually kind of killed it's 2D deapartment too... that Teacher's Pet movie designed by Gary Baseman was supposed to be their last traditional feature. They were going to make feature called "A Few Good Ghosts" with a totally new style where they animate it all digitally and then rotoscope that, but the whole project fell through.

Not sure if they still do their series animation like Kim Possible and that in America or if they outsource it to Asia now... I think I'd heard something about that.

Oh well... there must be jobs out there somewhere...

One thing that seems to be a problem with Disney, is that they make bad sequals. Hopefully Narnia II and National Treasure II won't be messed up. Along with POTC II...

Well apart from the gross stuff in their movies, Dreamworks are definitely good!
