smallvilles 5th season is ending, and i thought it would be good to have a ready thread for the sixth, and possibly the final, season.

Spoilers follow.

i'll start off with summing up season 5.
Beginning of this season, we were introduced to an actual comic book villian. someone who has history. His name is Braniac, in the books, he was Kryptons super computer. made by kryptonions. In the show, he is sent to Earth along with two other kryptonions to defeat clark. Clark defeats the other two instead. And Braniac decided to become desquised as a normal person and get close to clark and defeat him with smarts. That plan fails eventually and Clark defeats Braniac. Now Braniac is back and he has another plan. Through the season, braniac has tried to use personal pain to weaken clark, such as trying to kill his mother, and desquising himself as clarks deceased father and manipulating him. still not working, he teams up with Lex Luthor, who also has personal issues with clark. The two gather samples of the worlds deadliest virus', with the intention of creating a super vaccine that will make anyone invincible. Braniac, as planned from the very beginning of the two's mission, turns against Lex to use him as his puppet. He forcefully injects lex with the vaccine before they could test it. This turns lex invincible, and somehow, very powerful. Lex has always suspected something about clark to be... out-of-this-world strange, but despise all of his attempts, he was never able to uncover clarks secret. Now he has a way to find out, coersion.

throughout the shows first 4 seasons, Lex and Clark have been best friends, they have had their problems aswell. But this 5th season, the producers decided to bring the series into relativity. meaning everything you know in the comics, will now be falling into place in the show. Things such as Clarks and Lex's best frienship becoming worst enemies. Clark and Lana end their love affair, clark and Lois begin theirs. Clarks adopted earth father passing away. And the introduction to Supermans Fortress of Solitude, which is just amazing, its beautifully done. This seasons slogan was "Everything you ever wanted to see". And they gave us everything we wanted to see. Winding down, everything will fall into place, there still may be a few things we havent seen, tho want to. Such as Clark donning the suit, he and lois actually falling in love. Lex's crossover to the evil side. Which has been slowly happening in this season. Before, Lex said "I dont want to do good things, i want to do [i]great[/i] things". Its just the matter of how he does these things.

Other notable things that have happened in the 5th season:
-Clark lost his powers, and for the first time, felt he could love Lana and be honest with her. The two lose their virginity to eachother.
-After losing his powers and becoming mortal, Clark must save thousands of people from a bomb, so he makes a deal with his biological father. Yet there comes a price, and a choice. Clark gets his powers back to save these people, in return, he must lose someone he loves to a tragic death. That person ends up being his father.
-Aquaman's first appearance. Lex makes his first major step into the darkside, choosing to allow biochemicals to be released into the ocean.
-The show takes dynamic steps in becoming part of the mythology, by introducing a new element, silver kryptonite. When kryptonions come into contact with this stone, they are weakened by extreme paranoia.
-Lex makes his second step into becoming evil, he chooses to defeat his challenger in the senate race at any means nessecary. including creating false information about his opponent.
-after regaining his powers, clark feels he cannot be truthful with Lana anymore, which is all she wants from him. After becoming hypnotized by a wild girl, clark cheats on lana and she catches him, then clark breaks up with her, while under the girls influence. When regaining back his senses, he realizes he shouldnt ammend their relationship, simply because he still cannot be honest with her. So it ends for the two, forever.
-it is discovered that Lionel Luthor, the villian of the series until this season, in which his son, Lex, becomes the villian, has known of Clarks secret for some time. And seemingly has been waiting for the right moment to use this information to his advantage.
-Teen Titans member Cyborg, is introduced.
-Heartbroken, lana goes to lex for comfort. Lex has recently gained an intimate interest in lana, and so takes advantage. The two are nonexclusive for now. But know where their relation stands, and want to further it.

the season finale is next week, thursday, 8pm eastern, on the WB.

In the older movies, there was a team of villians lead by General Zod, who was played by Terrance Stamp, and now Terrance Stamp voice plays Clarks Kryptonion Father on Smallville. General Zod is scheduled to appear in the series.

This season ends with the very first battle between Superman and Lex Luthor.

reviewing the season finale.

first thing you should know: What is the Phantom Zone?
It is Kryptons prison for criminals guilty of the most heinous crimes. It is a deminsion virtually impossible to escape. In the comics, Braniac was the one responsible of the destructive end to the planet Krypton. In the old Superman movies, For acts of treason, Zod and his deciples were bannished into the Phantom Zone just before Krypton exploded. Only to return when Superman... became a man, on Earth. This is the point at which Smallville is at now.
Note: how one is imprisoned into the Phantom Zone. There is a device, about the size of ones hand, commonly used only by authoritive figures. This device is gently thrown into the air, apparently towards a random position. The device then acts, somehow opening up and [i]sucking[/i] the prisoner into its small clutches, becoming a portal leading to the Phantom Zone deminsion. And then locking itself closed and drifting into outer space.

Zod, in fact, made his appearance. And like the kryptonian steriotype, he was straight forward, and very sinister. He walked around with his poker-face on constantly. Although, the character of Zod was played by Michael Rosenbaum, also Lex. He used Lex as his "vessel", Lex's body was used as Zods physical form. The entire episode was designed to lead up to the cliffhangar. And what a cliffhangar it was. I believe some things should not be left to linger for months. one of these cliffhangars is one of them. The cliffhangars are as follows.

-Martha Kent and Lois Lane were on their way to Washington DC via the Luthorcorp jet. Which had been taken over by one form of Braniac, posing as the pilot. During flight, Braniac locked the door to the cockpit and just kept flying, with apparently no destination. Lack of oxygen eventually put the two females unconcious. As for motive, all i can think of was some strange way to keep them from the dangers ahead, dangers that involve the entire world at ground level.

-These dangers were started by another of Braniacs forms. Causing a shutdown of electricity from one side of North America to the other. Riots and looting insued as Metropolis was taken over. Lionel Luthor and Chloe Sullivan were entangled in the riots. Succumbing to the rioters and seemingly being sucked into the crowd forcefully. It was left to the imagination as to what happened to the two.

-Lex and Lana sealed their relationship. Lana discovered she can love Lex while he was inhuman. Lex was driven to a location to be abducted by one of Braniacs forms. His plan was to prepare Lex's body, make him into a vessel for Zods spirit to harbor. his secondary plan was to incorporate Kryptonian strength into Lex's body. Which worked, Lex became not only invincible from the super vaccine, he now possessed the same powers and strength as Clark. During the actual battle between the two, with Lex being bigheaded and thinking he was unstoppable, he found that Clark could not kill him. Not because it was impossible, but because Clark didn't have it in him to murder. Instead, Clark goes after Braniac, using a Kryptonian weapon given to him by Jor-El and attempting to destroy Braniac with it, inadvertingly releasing Zod from the Phantom Zone at which time Zod takes his place in the vessel, Lex's body. What happens next was comepletely and utterly unexpected.

-Zod imprisons Clark in the Phantom Zone.

now that we're all caught up, i want to bring to the table just how unfair this last cliffhangar is. As far as i know, only two criminals in the history of the Phantom Zone have ever escaped. One being Zod, escaping in the old Superman movie, which is the same instance as this time in Smallville. I'll save the other story of the second escape for another time. So, there is almost no possibility that young Clark can be freed. This alone is too much. And when you top it off with his mother and Lois' lives being in danger at this very moment and do not have much more time to live, minutes at most, and dont forget the nationwide havoc going on with this huge blackout in which lionel and chloe are in the mix of aswell, how is there any way all of the characters in this show can survive? Jonathon Kent lost his life ealier in the season, i dont understand how another important life can be taken away so soon. Which is the problem i have. One main character has died recently, and now there is too much of a chance another will to. There is always the possibility that Jor-El, Clarks biological, and Kryptonian, father, can step in and help, but lets just say he's not known to care enough to help. Without Clark, even more disaster is on the way. And even with Clark, there will be too much for him take care of so quickly.

rant out of the way, lets move on to the smaller points of the episode. After Zod imprisons Clark, he takes a nice perch atop a Metropolis skyscraper to watch the chaos unfold on the streets. A very disturbing scenery in which viewers can see the city in the background shots, a city on fire, literally, in some areas. His purpose is to destroy Kryptons sole survivor, Clark, who is the son of the man, Jor-El, who imprisoned him in the Phantom Zone for High Treason so long ago. This is his way of revenge against Jor-El. Defeating Clark. And, like unions peels, you have to look at the way Zod has to defeat Clark. By destroying his "only weakness", the people of Earth, he destroys clark. Destroying clark is vengeance against Jor-El. While on the top of the building, Lana comes searching for Lex. She finds him, but doesnt know his body is possessed by Zod. She confesses that she loves him and she wants to spend the rest of their lives together, all the while Zod is puzzled, yet hiding it. Without a word, he accepts this proposal by kissing Lana, maybe just to shut her up, maybe not. Either way, his plan is falling into perfect place, even with added bonus' such as....well Lana.

The show ends with the Phantom Zone device drifting in outer space, we can see Clark trapped in, with the same design from the comics [i]and[/i] old movies (if you've seen them, you'll know what it looks like to see someone trapped in the Phantom Zone through their portal device)

well, we have until sometime around september to finally know how this turns out. It was a shocker for me, the Phantom Zone was introduced in this seasons premier aswell.
