Wow, someone else had the exact same reaction to this pile of s**t as I did! The suicidal thoughts, that is. I gave up after the first four or five episodes. It was a rather sh*tty story in the first place, made even worse by ugly art and character designs(no drug addict looking men plz) and stupid character personalities.

Anyway, I think pretty much all Saiyuuki remakes/reinterpretations fail (especially the latest Japanese drama version). Except for the Chinese live action version called "Monkey King". That was some awesome s**t.
O.O;; You do realize that this is a thread for fans of the anime and manga, right? If you dislike it, you have a reason to say so, but I don't think what you said justifies it. Why does it have a "bad" story? Why does it have "bad" drawing? And why are the character designs "bad"?

I'm not sure what's going on in your head, but the rest of us enjoy Saiyuki for one simple reason; it's an excellant series. Yes, the drawing is a little different than I expected at first, but you get used to it and begin to like it. The character designs are wonderful (in no other series does Son Goku look so cute and adorable, even DBZ), and they reinvented the whole story in a way that makes it fascinating and interesting. You say that the story sucks, but then why do you say that that "Monkey King" thing based on the same story also sucks?

As for the characters and thier personalities, I particularly think that a good job was done there (and by the way, none of them look drug-addicted . .. except maybe for Gojyo, with the cigarettes. XD) Each of them might be a little different from thier counterparts in the actual story, but they're all well-developed, each with pasts and lives that give thier characters new depth and meaning. Each of them has a different personalities and ways of doing things. I can't really explain it, but they're just as well developed as any character in a normal book; maybe a bit more, because of the fact that you can see them. Each of them are as rich and well-defined as any real-life person. And also? Each of them is handsome. Well, Goku is more adorable than handsome, but the fact remains that the way they are drawn makes them attractive.

In all ways, I just can't understand why you don't like this series. If you don't like it, explain why calmly and precisely; for example, what don't you like about the characters? Don't swear and insult it; that's rude. I simply swore in my above post to point out what they made Hakkai say (and yes, making him swear is a crime. T_T ). And that's another thing: how can you not like Hakkai? He's awesome! Anyone who likes his normal quiet and gentle personality is good, but a whole 'nother class of people can appreciate the mass murderer that lies beneath the surface of that smiling face! XD Tortured characters, don't we love them. Just look at CLAMP; that's all they have! XD

And that's just the four main characters. It doesn't even touch Kougaiji or Kanzen Botatsu or any of the others. (On that note, I still find it utterly fascinating and awesome that the supposed 'anti-heroes' are nobler, more intelligent, and more resourceful than the actual 'heroes.' XD ) In any case, each of the other characters are also well-developed, well-drawn, and interesting. I mean, it just baffles me why you don't like Saiyuki!

Enough of my rant. I'm sorry for taking up so much space; I just got carried away. Just please don't be so rude next time you flame. (And by the way, I can't remember thier names, but the themesongs I liked were the ones from the first 10 episodes; I didn't get to see any other eps. ^_^ )

I guess you failed to read the initial post or something, cause the author sure as hell does say they wanted to injure themselves over the anime of it. He/she doesn't say ORGASM ORGASM and "fans talk about it here!!".

Anyway. I apologize that my 'flame' wasn't well written. If it was something I hated with a passion there would have been a pagelong post. Since it isn't, you get something typed out by my beating my head against the keyboard a few times.

Granted, the manga does have nice... coloring. I guess. The character designs just don't appeal to me. D:
And the plots of the various adaption of the original story are not all the same. Some are crap, and some are not. They change the way most characters and stories from it are from retelling to retelling. It wouldn't make sense to keep making different series out of it if they had a set way for each character to act. "Monkey King" had a long-sideburned, stout dude who was the king of monkeys and loved bananas for Goku. This one had a brainless[pretend I say this in the kindest way possible] kid.

As for the use of the term "handsome". Uh huh huh huh. Let's just agree to disagree there. And I can never imagine a character from a fictional story to be as well-defined/rich/well-developed/REAL as a real person.
long-sideburned, stout dude
That's Hawt omgsgsaa. <3 I'd hit it like the fist of an angry mountain god. :0

The reason I bothered Checking out the series in the first place was because of the Tactics-rpg I played of the same name (Which was very closely based from the "original story/tale", appearances and all) which I enjoyed very much. If anything, the Saiyuuki manga was enjoyable, but I probably wouldn't read it again and again (I hear Reload is awsm, though). If I have to watch the anime again, I want you to drive a spike through my neck. plz I probably would've liked it better in general if I wasn't biased towards the original or if it was something with a unique story as opposed to being based off of something.

Minekura's art is pretty cool, though. I like this picture, lol shota

She's done actual shouta before. Except with more fluff and less porn. Spent $30 importing that one manga. 8D Stigma <3

Whatever. In any case, back to Saiyuki.

I read Reloaded the other day, and thought it was pretty good! Love seeing more of the boys. ^_^ And has anyone checked out Gaiden? That's supposed to be excellant. My friend reads the latest chapters online. I found an excellant site to read Saiyuki fanfic on, but I can't find where I put down the adress . . . Evil or Very Mad I'll look for it. It was worth reading! Lotsa fanfic about Gaiden (centered around Hakkai ^_^) and some about the others. There was also a deathfic that almost made me cry. Crying or Very sad

God, the Saiyuki anime was a trainwreck. I noticed a lot of cel recycling and cheap animation. AND WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE YOUKAI DYING? White sparkles, wtf? I like Saiyuki for the awsm characters and the bloody violence.

The anime lacked both. Sad

Gojyo's pink hair frightened me.

I liked Gojyo's pink hair 8D I don't know why maybe it's just amusing to me to see such a tough guy/ladies man character with girly magenta hair.

Yes . . . the anime has a lot of problems in it. . . . .;; I mean, I like it because I love anime, but the manga is a lot better. Yes . . . Gojyo's purple/pink hair, Hakkai swearing, and some of the ridiculously fake looking scenes do make it sucky . . . but then you got the theme songs and Goku popping up and down around Sanzo's shoulders in the first episode. That cracked me up. XD I'm a stupid woman, I know. And the whole thing when they left out the HakkaiXKanan relationship . . . that was a big part of the plot! All in all, it sucks, but I still watch it because I'm a major otaku/anime junkie. XD

the anime was alright, but i love the manga to bits! my main problem with the anime was the animation and the fact that i thought Sanzo just looks strange and of course Gojyo's infamous pink hair Very Happy
