If anyone here is a Roald Dahl fan like I am, I would like to hear what you think of the many movies based on his books. It is said that Roald Dahl was never happy with nay of the movies based on his books that were made in his lifetime. He was so disappointed with Willy Wonka (based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) that he refused to let them do a sequel.

Best movie: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005): I think thois movie captured the book perfectly. Johnny Depp was great, and the Ooopma Loompas were amazing. I love how it was set in a Tim Burton time warp type setting, that way you don't have to associate it with any specfic decade.

(Honourable Mention goes to Matilda and James and the Giant Peach)

Worst Movie: The Witches. Great casting, but they changed the ending, therby ruining the whole point of the book. It was supposed to be that his Grandmother loves him no matter what, even if he is a mouse.

Matilda was the best in my humble opinion.

It was funny, cute, Danny Devito rocked socks all over the globe and the characters were loveable. All around great film, whereas Charlie and the choc factory (2005) I can only watch that every like 5 months or so... It's an awesome movie but somethings of it get old pretty fast. Johnny Depp is fantastic but can't carry the film as much as it needs to be outstanding.

I'm with Gray on this one... I think Matilda is possibly the most loyal book-to-movie adaptaion I've ever seen.

Of course, I haven't read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory since I was four or five, so I can't comment on how close that one was...

I think it'd be great to do an adaptation of one of the stories in "Skin"... those were pretty twisted.

I liked the stories in "Someone Like You", especially "Lamb to the Slaughter." That was a weird one.

Was "Skin" also the title of the one where they skinned that old guy with the painting tattooed on his back? That one stuck with me, being the leather aficianado that I am.

Lamb to the Slaughter was great too, though.

I thought Tim Burton's Charlie and The Chocolate factory was amazing also! Deep Roy makes a great oompa Loompa(s). I liked Matilda also. That was one of my favorite books when I was younger. James and the Giant Peach scareed the shit out of me for some reason. I think it was the rhino eating his parents in the begining. Anyways. I haven't seen that movie since I was like 6/7. And it would probably still scare me.
