remember the good old days? When there was actually good anime? Dragon Ball, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star...what happened to all of the good shows? Now what do we have, beyblade, shaman king...one peice. anyone in this thread that actually has good taste, surely you will agree with me. and whats worse, anime is everywhere...remember when you'd just hang out by the comic store with your friends, reading some good old fashioned Akira? I remember those days... (sighs dramatically)

atleast we have mayazaki to cover us XD

Actually, all of the series you mentioned were pretty bad (Except for Outlaw Star). Fist of The North Star did what DBZ couldn't in less episodes. Shaman King is an OLD AS HELL OMG YOU'RE STUPID FOR BRINGING IT UP WITH THE NEW series.

Anime's better than ever. If you watch what's currently in circulation on Toonami or whatever, you're getting pigslop-- OLD pigslop. (lol, eva.)

You're not unique, Anime and Manga are not obscured in any form, get over it ect ect

To rephrase the main post to make more sense:

Remember the good old days? When America actually bothered to dub good anime?

If it's good, chances are it hasn't been released yet. And if it is released, it's only in manga form. Most anime is bullshit, I prefer manga. Personal preference. :x

There really never were any "Good Old Days" in terms of anime, things got more computer based, not that anyone is a very big fan of 2D animation anymore anyway, so there's really nothing to get rosy eyed over.

Basically, the western following of anime isn't a faggy niche like it was in the 80's. The end.

This is true.

Anime has just become more mainstream now, and liking it isn't really considered nerdy anymore.

I think, in terms of good old days, I should bitch about American cartoons. I want my Animaniacs, Freakazoid, and Rocko. None of this thick-lined Genndy Tartakovsky spawned crap. I honeslty have no problem with Genndy's stuff like Dexter and Samurai Jack, but the bullshit that followed it became a new trend of low-quality carbon-copy cartoons.

American cartoons..not the best anymore. I miss shows like Animaniacs and Freakazoid as well, while they were very funny to kids, they also had some clever more "Grown up" oriented jokes thrown in-- Also, they were pleasant to look at.

Personally I'm thrilled with Anime/manga these days, the more mainstream it becomes, the more options that become open to us. Yes, there are bad shows and books but that was always true. The shows you named as the "good old day's shows" weren't really that good, and any Dragon Ball series just plain sucks.

A lot of the shit that you probably hate are these retarded cartoons that came out for children. Just don't watch them.

One of the many reasons Animaniacs was so awesome is because of all the political jokes sprinkled in. I think they did that so the shows would be more enjoyable for the parents and the babysitters :/

@SpasticPenguine: Aw, I liked the original Dragonball. Sad DBZ was okay, but I really only liked the last saga. DBGT... well, what few episodes I bothered to watch were utter crap. 8D

Oh, whoops- mistake. I liked the original Dragonball, though it wasn't my favorite thing to watch, it was cute and nice. Any OTHER Dragonball series I hate.

Personally I don't find an anime where a battle takes fifty episodes to complete very interesting at all, especially when it's just the same stuff happening over and over again. Dragonball was quicker and cleaner than that- MUCH QUICKER.

I like DBZ T.T Half in a sorta ironic it's-funny-cause-it's-stupid way, but I also genuinely like the characters. But you know, whatever.

I think anime released in the US is on the upswing as well as the general quality of subbing and dubbing (editing has become less obvious for one. Compare early DBZ with later DBZ and you will get what I mean), as well as what they are willing to show on television. Heh, I do not like Eva at all, but I know plenty of kids who would have shit themselves to have it shown on Cartoon Network back in the day. Still waiting for Ranma to be reasonablely priced, though. *cough* >.< Just take a look around your local video stare and there is a huge selection when there was little before. FMA, Excel Saga, FLCL, Pretear, Get Backers, Lupin III (an old one, but I believe it was translated more recently) DiGi Charet (same as Lupin) etc. I know that everyone has different tastes, but with more variety everybody wins, right?

I also am not inclined believe that the quality of cartoons as a whole has declined either. Billy and Mandy have 'adult' jokes sprinkled in (did anybody hear watch the Christmas special? OH MAN was that funny), as well as probably some other things not coming to mind right now. I love Ed, Edd, and Eddy, and Kim Possible, and man is it ever late I cannot think very well. *cough* And those are just the younger kid shows. I also really like Justice League, it does I great job carrying on the tradition of top-notch action cartoon started by Batman TAS. On the other hand, "The Batman" is total crap in a sack. Eh, there will always be things we like and things we do not, but there are too many new shows that I love to say that cartoon quality is decreasing.

I rather like Billy and Mandy as well- there is some adult humor sprinkled through there, and Kim Possible has its moments (though I don't really like that show).

As for Ranma ever being reasonably priced? Cold day in hell when it is. That shit is EXPENSIVE. I've wanted to get the anime box set for a long while now because both my brother and I love the manga- but I'm not willing to shell that kind of money out.

I'm not that widespread into anime, so I can't exactly say whether or not anime/manga has gotten worse. Sure, there are the cheap kid shows that are shown on WB, Fox, Cartoon Network, and Toon Disney, but there are also better ones that don't get mainstream-ed into our TVs. Personally, I hate the generic-ity (yeah, not a word Razz) of the ones on Toon Disney, but I know that there are really good ones, specifically in Japan and those that haven't become anime (aka. manga).

American cartoons on the other hand... Sad I miss those "good ol' days". Some few years ago, there used to be detail and everything didn't always revolve around teaching little kids lessons. So sad now...I miss them. But at least I still get to watch them on Boomerang!!! Very Happy Still, there are American shows that I still like. I have to agree with Reepicheep-chan about these good shows: Billy and Mandy; Ed, Edd, and Eddy; Kim Possible; Justice League; and some other shows.

So what Gundam is worth watching?

Only other Gundam I've experienced was the G-Gundam manga.

War in the Pocket is the absoulute best, in my opinion.

It has the realism factor. Jungle, stealth warfare. The main character is practicly outmatched by two Zakus. (IE, Doesn't have the god character factor)

who else remembers when Yu Yu Hakusho was on every week day at 5:30 on Cartoon Network? that was AWESOME!!! (can you tell im Yu Yu obsessed?) then they moved it to 9pm on saturdays (or was it 9:30?) and then didnt they start the series AAAAAAAALL over again right when they were getting to the climactic and oh so cool ending to season 3? AND THEN, without telling anyone they moved it to like 5:30 am on saturday. CARTOON NETWORK IS EVIL!!!!!

Ugh, Yes! I miss Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin!! Those the best animes ever! Crying or Very sad I abhor Naruto now-a-days. Partially because I hear too much of it as well as most of the characters are mary-suish/gary-stuish. I don't really watch Toonami anymore because it has been kiddified. One Piece was also kiddified. I don't like it when they kiddify anime...I mean, the author wrote it to be like that, so let it be so!

Bleach is pretty good though. But that's on Adult Swim. Adult Swim's got good animes I think.
