I'm a little confuesd about the whole Skill level on pics (where you choose between beginner, intermediate, and expert) First off, what is the point, how does it tie into the site? Does this have an effect on anything? And these terms are also relative/subjective, One person can think they've submitted an expert piece of work, and to someone else it seems beginner. At the same time, if this has any special meaning people can just spam it and say their 10 second doodles are expert. I dunno. I'm just a little confused, that's all.
thanks.

Yeah, I agree with Blade. I mean, can you honestly trust these peoples' judgement?
The skill levels are used to 'filter' out good pics from ones that took very little time, or something like that... and something related to site stats perhaps?

Oh, but denis... does selecting a pic as 'advanced' happen to have anything to do with featured pics? Confused Or do you actually select each of those by hand or somewhat?
Just wondering.

What the person selects as a skill level has nothing to do with what pictures are featured.

Skill level currently is used for nothing but in the future may be used for filtering or sorting. For now I am just collecting data.

If the approval panel is still working (it is right?) then maybe they should say to wich level each picture belongs to, because any artist will probably want their art to be sorted in expert instead of begginers....

I'd put myself at the intermediate, it's a good thing there is only three levels, not so much room for "er, I think I am..."

Yeah, I just say I'm an intermediate artist too. :/ I'm too good for "beginner", which is what most of FAC should be categorized under, but I still have so much to learn. I'm nowhere near being advanced. xD

I still think it would be a poor method of categorization, unless the AP team had a hand in it as well. I know that there are some egotistical fanbrats out there who would classify their InuYasha sketch as "advanced". Either because they have little experience, or they just want attention.

Maybe there should be a peer way to evaluate one's skill level like a voting system? Of course, it'd be enabled so that only registered users could vote and only once per an image.

That's probably too much coding work though. x_x Just a thought.

I doubt that would do much. Some of the worst doodles I've seen, barely even deserving to be called art, have been bombarded my "OMG UR SO GOOD DO U TAKE REQUESTS UR MY HERO" comments on this site. :(

Voting systems never work. Most art sites have gotten rid of them, if they ever had them to begin with, 'cause they always lead to excessive abuse. Even DA's original "like" "somewhat like" and "dislike" was terrible.

Yeah, it seems more and more like a bad idea now. Doh!

Not to mention, artists with lots of friends or with more page views will get better and more ratings.

In a perfect world it would be a good idea. It's always nice to let the general pouplation have a say in what they like. However, FAC's general population consists mainly of raging fangirls with no artistic eye.

In a perfect world.... Sad
