I've found people that can be so with either side, and I want to know who in the forums likes or dislikes anthros/furries. I personally love them, also considering I have a silver fox anthro character myself. What are your thoughts?

This is a love 'em or hate 'em poll.

Note: If anyone thinks this topic should be moved, it's supposed to be in art discussion because anthros/furries are used in art.

I think people of PETA are furfags in disguise.

I'm fed up with furries because people never come up with anything new. It's always cat furry, dog furry, fox furry or wolf furry. No one ever considered a giraffe or fish furry.

Honestly, I think it's all the same generic thing, no one ever comes up with anything new. There are a few other things I find distasteful about furries but I've said enough.

I wouldn't want to waste my time. I'm not into furries no matter what type of animal they are. It would just be nice to see someone try something new for once.

Pfft. Saying furries are unoriginal, yet you draw anime~
You're just not looking in the right places. Sure, I draw foxes, raccoons, etc...but I add a twist to mine. My antrhos are aliens, from a weird planet, and they're more than just normal anthros.

The only unoriginal ones are people without the talent to draw other animals '=/

Yes...I do have to admit anime is a bit unoriginal but it's a style I've been able to stay with for years and it's certainly wandered from your usual cell shaded bubbly eyed characters you see everywhere.
And just because my style is anime doesn't mean you've taken the time to see what I've done to develope my original characters' personalities, traits, and backgrounds. Wink

I do have to admit I'm very hypocritical at times. There are some furry artists out there that have some actual creativity and I like to see that. I always think it's the work put into something to make it come to life that counts most. It's good to see people who take old ideas and thrown in a new twist. I'd like to look into your characters some more. Your perspective on this concept seems pretty intresting.

I'm probably not looking in the right places. Normally I skim the surface and all I see are cats and foxes, usually just drawn on two legs for no apparent reason, no background behind it. To me some furries are just spawned for the purpose of looking cute or cool, there's no real logic of how they got that way behind them.

How is that any different from you not taking time to learn the developed personalities, traits, and backgrounds behind any given fox, wolf, or cat anthro?

Heheh

Yeah, I -always- have a story behind the anthros I draw.
If you take any anthro picture from my gallery, I can pretty much give you their whole backstory, personality and everything. I don't draw just for the purpose of something looking cool or cute (minus my 'cute fox' picture, which was made just for that purpose for a community project ;P).

Most people actually draw certain anthros they created a lot, because they've developed a whole story about them...I actually find more people who just draw random anime characters who don't have any purpose (such as some random woman) than anthros.

See, when you're a furry who draw anthros, you have your own persona character, who represents yourself D:

Which is why I draw a lot of this one Fox, Kitzy. She's my persona. And of course, my muse is a little blue fox!

If you think about it, really...everything you draw, as long as it's from your own mind, is pretty original.

Now you're someone I can support. You really hit the nail on the head, Kitzy. Very Happy Originality is what I go for as well. Sure I don't show my silver fox anthro character as much, but with the main character I have, I can tell you all of his past, and future. Also, with the originality issue, I canstantly change my style for more originality, and what I like do and see them as. Both of my characters represent me.

Kitzy pretty much has this whole thing under her thumb otherwise. Smile

I don't hate furries, I don't love furries. They're just another "fandom".

However, I do find the "fursona" people to be rather creepy. And no, I'm not just talking about the people who make animal versions of themselves, I'm talking about the people who believe they are animals and refer to their hands as paws, etc. etc.

Just... no. You're a fucking human.

Scary thing is that I actually have a friend/fangirl on dA who has her own fursona. It is sorta weird...she also says she has this axe that's her source of power and stuff. O_o

Yeah, I think fursona (why do I have such a hard time spelling it?) characters are just a way of taking roleplaying to a new extreme.
See, when you're a furry who draw anthros, you have your own persona character, who represents yourself D:
That would be the fursona we were talking about right? :B

If it's a "muse" character, I don't mind them. One of my OCs represents me, in a way (though she's kind of evolved into her own thing...). It's the people who start believeing that they ARE their fursona that creep me out.

Oh, no. Midnightmoonstarshine the winged wolf isn't just my bad, cliche online person, I -AM- Midnightmoonstarshine the winged wolf! D<

I did in a way mean fursona, but not taken to the level of being that animal.
See, Kitzy would be my persona. I'm not an anthropomorphic fox, I don't have paws, a tail, etc.

But y'know, it's just some peoples' escape from reality. Just like drugs '=/

Not everyone takes it that far, though.

Well, I have a black cat anthro, which is of course, a guy with black ears and a tail.

And it was a point of making him that way. Just for the fact there is so many ordianary furries and stuff out there.

NOW, I'd like to make a clearification.

Anthro = A person who has cat items
Furrie = A character that is an animal that stands on two legs.

WHY people can't get that, irks me.

I think furries are awesome, because I can't draw them myself. So i don't really have a bad opinion of them. :3

Funny, I was always told that -

anthro = animal character that stands on two legs/has SOME human traits (such as hands), but is basically just a bipedal animal. A famous example would be Bugs Bunny, or Mickey Mouse.

furry = an animal character. Sometimes they can have special traits, blah blah blah.

Though, I think catpeople and the like would also fall into the category of anthro.

If what I have been taught of the English language is true, "anthropomorphic" means "animal with human qualities. That would encompass anything from two-legged Bugs Bunny type characters to animals with human emotions like Simba and Balto, I imagine.

Yeah, anthros are in fact, animals with human traits.
I think a more widely used term for people with animal parts (ears/tail) would actually be 'Nekos' (even though they're not all cats).
