See, I'm having a hard time figuring out if you're serious or a troll.
Anyway, Green Day was okay before...but when they came here to perform, the crowds were loaded with police and stupid people who decided to do idiotic things and get themselves in trouble.
There were many people smoking marijuana in the crowds, there were people with their 5 year old children (why?!), and many emo punk kids.
I mean, I suppose Green Day's alright. I just don't like their new stuff, since it just...doesn't appeal to me ;/ _________________ |

Back in the days of songs like Basket Case I thought they were amusing enough. I never listened to many of their songs, but I had ones that I enjoyed.
Ever since American Idiot came out, they've struck me as nothing more than war profiteers. Oh boo-hoo Bush Suxxorz, I'mma write a rock opera about how America makes me sad. Now they've degenerated into little more than fodder for overly-pretention rants about American society from self-proclaimed Communists who drink too much Starbucks coffee and think that buying Che merchandise makes them enlightened and nonconformist.
What Greenday has become represents an entire culture I can't stand. _________________

Green Day. I have one question about them. You say they've sold millions of albums and made zillions of dollars...so why does the lead singer have McNasty teeth? Can't afford braces? Yeah. I never thought Green Day was a very good band. Mostly because I don't really like male singers...and because they are just painful to listen to. _________________ I have magical female powers

Agreed.
And when they aren't whining about bush, they're angsty beyond belief.
Greenday is our Led Zeppelin. Think about that for a second. Then cry. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

The politics bandwagon is something that should have been abandoned. Green Day should abandon the outright political outspoken-ness and just go back to "I'm havin' fun and I don't give a shit what you think". That was when they were tops.
Bush bashing is old and stupid. |

But they do give a shit. Only nobody bands don't give a shit 'cause they have nothing to lose.
If greenday pretended to not give a shit now, they'd just be faking in an incredibly obvious manner.
Hanoi Rocks did Boulevard of Broken Dreams the right way 20 years earlier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyAsYP1esIU Talk about a band that didn't give a shit. (long before hair bands, Hanoi's bred from the punk scene) _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Fortunately, Dookie came before "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and so it remains a fun album. All it is is the punk-pop catchiness of the early nineties and they didn't try to make it anything more than just that. It was consistent.
I don't like BoBD because it's too cliche and too distant from "Basket Case" or "Longview".
It didn't show off anything either. I liked Dirnt's bassline in "Longview" because of the laid-back groove to it. It's a great bassline to learn.
They give a shit now, but the attitude they had early on was appealing. Back when Billie Joe was fat, Cool looked less than the clown he went to school to be, and Dirnt wasn't lookin' like a total sellout.
They don't even do their old hits live anymore. |

They may not have given a shit then, but they can't go back to that now. Can't risk losing the fangirls. I don't know anyone who was a fan then who is a fan now. They traded in their original fanbase for the bigger mtv corporate one and the opportunities that come with it.
That's fine...until they or some clueless fan tries to say they're such rebels for their political views or "edgy" songs. Leave the pretentious political bandwagon to U2, they've been sucking for decades. One is enough. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. The clueless rebel kills a part of me everytime they mention Bush, the government, or any other trivial issue that really isn't so much an issue as it is an annoyance and useless.
I still wanna hear some good fun pop-punk coming from them eventually. They may not be able to turn back the clock, but they could still do one fun song.
Unfortunately, with the success of A.I. and the movie being made of A.I., I don't foresee it. |
