None of them. There music sucks, In My Opinion. Amy Lee cannot sing, and the only reason she sounds good on the album is because the peace her songs togeather bit by bit using the parts where she and the backing musicians actually hit the notes.
My second quark is the lyrics and apperence. They're a cheap emo band possing as goth and only signed because they appel to emo 14 year olds. |

I'm not some emo 14 year old, and neither are my parents
I agree, a lot of their stuff is way too emo, but Amy Lee is a fairly good singer. I've heard many singers who can't compare to her, though she could use more strength in her voice.
Hey, more power to you and your parents. Thats only my opinion that there emo and a cheap imatation of goth, but if you like them, good for you! |

Amy Lee is NOT a good singer. She can't sing live. She can't get anywhere near the level of the studio tracks, and most (right minded, non fan brat) people who have gone to their shows have been disappointed in her.
Get a talented producer and anyone can sound like Amy Lee. It's a wonderful world of technology out there, much different than the days when a band had to play the song well all the way through. In Amy's case, they take a little here, a few words there, and as Zekk said piece the song together with the parts that were ok.
On top of that, they adjust the levels to smooth out any rough spots or tweak missed notes. The computer is the good singer. I have never ever heard any respectable review that had anything nice to say about her live performance.
It's all a bit like her photos. Those pictures of her without makeup (scary) compared to airbrushed press pictures. Evanescence are just as primped and packaged as Nsync or Britney Spears. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Just put a bag over her head and you're ready to go
Anyway, I was just waiting for her to get beaten down which didn't happen >: ( Oh well, don't like Evanescence. When I think of them, I think of Linkin Park and I don't like them either, both are bands for 8 year olds and even then you're pushing it.
Tremble you weaklings,cower in fear
I am your ruler, land, sea and air
Immense in my girth, erect I stand tall
I am a nuclear murderer I am polaris
Ready to pounce at the touch of a button
My system locked in on military gluttons
I rule on land, air and sea
Pass judgement on humanity
Winds blow from the bowels of hell
Will we give warning, only time will tell
Satan rears his ugly head,to spit into the wind
I spread disease like a dog
Discharge my payload a mile high
Rotten egg air of death wrestles your nostrils
Launch the polaris, the end doesnt scare us
When will this cease
The warheads will all rust in peace
Bomb shelters filled to the brim
Survival such a silly whim
World leaders sell missiles cheap
Your stomach turns,your flesh creeps
High priest of holocaust, fire from the sea
Nuclear winter spreading disease
The day of final conflict
All pay the price
The third world war
Rapes peace,takes life
Back to the start, talk of the part
When the earth was cold as ice
Total dismay as the sun passed away
And the days where black as night
Eradication of earths
Population loves polaris

Bottom line is, she can't sing like that live. And that's what counts. Singing opera is also a completely different skill than pop (also no guarantee that she sang it well ).
And my point was that anyone can sing like Amy Lee without any training at all because the studio tracks are digitally enhanced to sound like that. So take any bum off the street, have them sing a few bars and put it through production, they'll sound just as good. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Wait...I don't understand how this had turned into 'Amy Lee is ugly'...
Because really, that has nothing to do with singing, imo. I had never seen pictures of her until you guys posted them. She isn't ugly, she looks like a, dare I say...normal person!? (I hate how the media makes people think others are ugly just because people don't look airbrushed and perfect ~_~ )
But anyway, I've heard her music (not live, but many bands/singers can't pull of live performances), and I actually like it. So, most of it is synthesized. That doesn't change the fact that her songs interest me.
I mean, Nickelback appeals to a lot of people...and Chad Kroeger (might have spelled that wrong, I'm bad with names) is not a good singer in my opinion. He sounds like he's singing with sandpaper and a balloon stuck in his throat. He sings about how much of a dirtbag he is/how his dad left, etc.
And I agree, Amy Lee's songs are also 'whine whine cry whine emo', but I enjoy the ones that are calmer and ambient.
From the sound of it, yeah, she could use voice lessons. Her voice doesn't suit the style of music she's singing.
Sounds like she should be doing much louder music, and is just straining to pull of the soft songs.
At least she doesn't sound like the lead singer of Fallout Boy. _________________ |
Wait...I don't understand how this had turned into 'Amy Lee is ugly'...
Because it's another popular "Amy Lee isn't real" topic. If you see those pictures compared to the ones in magazines, the album art, or anything in the mainstream media, she looks like a completely different person. They pile a pound of makeup on her face and airbrush her photos so heavily, and then people run around drooling about how drop dead gorgeous she is. Nothing about her is real. She doesn't sing like that, doesn't look like that, everything is created by a team of people to pump out the product for fanbrats. Sure, all photos are airbrushed, but if you saw most of the supermodels without the editing...they look pretty much like their photos with some extra fat here and there, not a completely different face.
Whether people like it or not doesn't matter. Look at the art on fac, somebody likes those mspaint doodles. Doesn't make them good. People liking Amy Lee doesn't make her good. Talking about who likes someone lasts all of four posts, talking about what makes them good or bad is far more dynamic. At least it would be if a fan of linkinpark/evanescence/mcr/greenday/falloutboy/goodcharlotte/etc could ever come up with evidence of their skill or talent beyond "I lyke dem". _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. i like her tunes, all that studio work sure does sound good. i dont care how she looks, lol, why would i? i dont like live music anyway, its never as good as the studio.
as for being "real" lol, even sid vicious was puppeteered to fit the role. tho he did embrace it too much. most artists are tailor-made, to be successful, you have to appeal to a demographic, and so comes the studio gangsters and goths and punks.
i watched one of those reality shows the other night, with tommy lee, i dont remember the name. well he admitted that if his band were to be lead by a chick, she has to be hot. not neccessarily talented. so there goes your "real" artists. |

The only thing I really dislike about Amy Lee is the fact that she forces her voice. You can hear it when she sings. But other than that, and the fact that the name is a little difficult to remeber how to spell, I like Evanescence. _________________ Go slam a revolving door. |

I'm not too fond of the band itself, but as I stated there are some songs I enjoy listening to.
So, she's fake. Just like every new and popular bands. But, that doesn't mean people can't enjoy some of their music =)
I mean, I'll even admit I like a few old Backstreet Boys songs. Why? 'Cause they give me nostalgia.
I actually like the lyrics in many of the Evanescence songs I've heard.
Yeah, her voice does sound sort of forced because she needs some voice lessons. She's kind of pushing the air out of her lungs as hard as she can when she sings, when she should be singing from her diaphragm...makes it a lot easier and better sounding when you sing from your diaphragm.
Problem is that a lot of singers use this technique because they don't know -how- to sing properly.
Example: Shakira tends to sing from her throat, stomach and nose all at once, and sometimes ends up sounding like Kermit the Frog.
And as for the whole 'synthesized' thing, I actually enjoy some songs that are sung using a synthesizer. Sometimes it sounds better than what a person could make it sound like. It's just something people use to edit their music. If you can make it sound good, you may as well.
People aren't likely to buy a cake that was poorly iced when placed next to a professional looking one. So you fix up the icing so the cake is presentable.
It's just the way people are. _________________ |

For the amount of effort they put into their CDs, I can listen to them and not be pained. I actually was addicted to "Bring Me to Life" for a little while because of the strings/metal guitar medley.
It's because of how well it worked that I'd like to try it on a few of my songs. |
