Alright, this is a discussion regarding a cappella music.

Wikipedia:
A cappella music is vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way.
So we have the basic information about it, but what I wonder is if you think that a cappella music will ever really be popular amongst North American society.

I find that most a cappella bands that I've heard of come from countries such as Finland or Sweden, and there haven't been a lot of North American a cappella bands that have made it big (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm wondering if it's because
-People don't show interest in liking a cappella
-Singers don't show interest in becoming well-known for a cappella
-Studios won't give a cappella a chance for radio
-There aren't many a cappella singers in North America

I would just like to find some English bands who do a cappella. I'm happy with ones who have a few songs I can understand (Rajaton), or ones who use few instruments along with their singing (Moxy Fruvous), but would like information and advice when searching for these bands (can't find their CDs anywhere I look).

A cappella.

I'm indifferent to most a cappella, unless it's done well and included in an already instrumental song, it rather sounds boring alone.

Some songs I can think of that uses this:

I'm pretty sure Bohemian rhapsody from Queen uses a cappella in the middle.

And Bjork, she uses soley beatboxing and a cappella in her Medulla album. Meaning that there is very little sound outside than what human voice can produce. I do like Oceania, the theme song for the Athens summer olympic she sings in A Cappella, but her music tends to make most people's ears bleed.

meh. I see it more as a niche rather than a genre of its own.

I think the Nylons do it well, but they mostly do covers of old 50's songs. Which, as far as songs you could cover go, are a great choice because most of them already rely so heavily on harmony.

I dunno, I enjoy that sort of Barbershop quartet oldies sound...

Hmm...yeah, Bjork is a little hard to handle.

See, the only band I've found so far that uses all a cappella is Rajaton, but they're not English. I love the way their voices sound without music, because they do something that mimics instruments if you're not listening closely.

I used to be in choir and we did a few a cappella songs, so the style appeals to me.

And yeah, Queen does a cappella sometimes Smile
I'd just like to see more a cappella.

http://www.thecoats.net/

I saw these guys once. Years ago. It was...cute, I guess. A novelty.

They're extremely talented, just...more than three songs is overkill and boring.

Those guys are alright, but I was thinking something less Boy Band-esque...
The best way to describe would be if you were to listen to a Rajaton song...I'm looking for more of a choir-ish sound.
