Hey Rindi! How's Japan, anime-wise?
I'm sure everyone else who knows you in the forum is thinking this...
Can we get you to get us somethin'? =3= _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

*laughs*
Well, I haven't looked into anime all that much yet because I've only been here for a week so far, and most of that time was spent at hotels, where they only show boring NHK newcasts. But now I'm finally settled in my (very tiny) apartment, and I actually have TV and internet this year, so I feel very fortunate.
Um, I haven't found anything on TV besides Blood+ and some terrifying Sanrio show that is kind of like Sesame Street, only with a person dancing around with a giant Hello Kitty head... Since Japan's summer vacation is starting up next week, they're going to be rerunning some series like FMA and PoT. Not that I've any interest in that sort of thing.
As for current hot shows and products, I've noticed that Pokemon is still going strong. There's a movie coming out soon. Detective Conan also seems to be very big, and if you checked my post in the Miyazaki thread, you'd also know that Ged Senki is also getting a lot of buzz.
As for hooking people up with merchandise and whatnot, I'd be up for that if you were willing to recompense me. Shipping from Japan is expensive, and actually, everything here is pretty darned expensive... But if you're interested, we might be able to work something out. I sure know how nice it is to get things straight from Japan without having to go through importers. I'll be here until December, coming home in time for Christmas.
One thing to note especially - Comic Market (aka. Comiket) is coming up in mid-August, and I'm definitely going to be there again this year. Comiket is the largest doujinshi convention in the world, and I had ridiculous amounts of fun there last year (besides coming away with a terrifyingly large doujin collection). I bought doujin for various friends last year, and if anyone has a particular fandom/pairing that they'd like a book from, I'll see if I can find it. I'll only do this for people that I have a healthy respect for - think of it as omiyage from me. :3 |

Now I want to ask, but I feel so embarrassed! >3<
For now, I think I'll just /r/ some photos of the Earthsea and Pokemon advertisements.
I can only think of mailing cash right now... =_= |

Of course I'll recompense you, who do you think I am?
I'm the one who spent over 180 dollars on 1000 pages of comic material to obtain mere 210 pages of works of one manga artist I like. (Which I can't read, damn)
I'll probably make you get few things this one artist sells in the comicket and maybe the convention manual.
I'm probably gonna go to Japan for a bit of a vacation+language school next summer, so... _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

That's what me an' a bunch of friends are thinking of doing to celebrate our graduation. 8D I just wanna go to Akihabara, lol. T_T I'm overly self-conscious of my extremely poor Japanese skills to even think about using them. ;A; |

@Fayore: PMed requests work too. I'll see if I can get some photos the next time I run across those posters. Yay, you should definitely try to visit Japan sometime - it's a very fun place. Akihabara is especially awesome because they have a Gamers there and I am like, addicted to that store. XD
@Brian: Hah, good, I'll save my Comiket catalog for you - last year I had to discreetly bring it to work and stuff it down the trash chute before anyone noticed. The thing's as big as a phonebook though. =_= Of course, this makes me wonder where the heck I'm going to find a catalog this year, as I am not familiar with the Kansai area at all, and there's nothing interesting where I live.
BTW, Comiket runs from August 11th-13th... Although Sunday is hentai day, so I proably won't go then. One of my friends refers to Sunday as 'sweaty fanboy day'. ^^; |

Double post? What double post? ;
I only have one anime/cartoon channel available, but it plays kids' shows until fairly late at night - the interesting stuff doesn't seem to air until around 10pm or so. Up until then it's stuff like DBZ and Hunter x Hunter. This somewhat confuses me, as I can't believe that most of the shows airing on this channel are reruns. The only current series that I've noticed is Blood+. Maybe I'm just not checking at the right times or something. Oh, I did see a commercial for the third Naruto movie. Every time I start to wonder how the series could possibly get any worse, they come out with a new movie. I think this one involves zoo animals or something horrifyingly lame like that. >o<
Well anyway, I found this while walking around town the other day - here we have a generic Miyazaki boy and a nearly as generic Miyazaki girl.

I will probably have to search somewhere more populous to find a Pokemon movie ad.
BTW, Sunday morning TV consists of horrifying things like people dressing up as Hello Kitty.

Yeah, I hear that most anime is played really late at night (Ouran's time slot is something like 1:00 AM or something? :0!). Seems like that channel doesn't have many new things? D; A pity. :X
Ummm...
Miyazaki. D; Is that supposed to be a girl? 'cause that is THE most manly female I've seen in Ghibli's stuff yet. 8O
Heh, Hello Kitty... I wouldn't say that that's any different from what we have in NA. 8O
By the way, how much do you think the doujinshi are on average? At Natsukomi. :V I don't really follow any circles, but a person on my LJ f-list put up a list of some doujinshi she was going to get, and I got instantly jealous. D8 Would you mind if I requested just series/pairings? Because I'm pretty sure that's a lot harder to find than getting specific circle names. |

I'm just looking forward to what Tsukumo Gou will bring to Comiket this year. He released his Jukebox no.4 last year and it's the best of the series <3.
I'm guessing 500 yen is about 6 bucks? I just want couple of his doujinshis, his CD work and the Comiket catalogue. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

You must be insane. :V That's gonna cost so much for shipping; [it's huge!] It has over 1000 pages of just circle cuts, I hear. o_o |

Um, yes, for the Miyazaki movie, that is indeed a girl. Every time I hear the ad for that movie she's all, "blah blah blah dai kirai da!" I haven't actually stopped to watch the movie preview though, so I don't know much else about it.
Doujinshi tend to run between 500-800 yen, although some really nice ones might be closer to 1000... Then again, I've gotten a few for 300 too. *shrugs* Last time I checked, we were about about 118 yen to the US dollar, so a 500 yen item is actually more like $4.25 (I have no idea how that translates into Canadian money).
I got my Comiket catalog the other day! From a shop catering to BL manga, no less. XD I've never seen one of those before, although I have walked into bookshops meant for guys before (this was last year - I was a Japan n00b). Anyway, the catalog is awesome and has a much more moe cover than last year's, which was borderline sketchy. The thing is freaking huge - it's like, 1300 pages long, although a lot of that consists of rules and advertising. It's more like a phone book than a catalog. While it's true that it's easier to search by circle name than series, there's also a decent listing of what series/genres are sold when, so I can probably track specific series down... I don't mind flipping through the catalog anyway, as I really only have my heart set on expanding my Pop'n Music doujin collection, and I don't have too much else to search for... Yes, I'm just that lame.
Brian, I did a quick check through the catalog for Tsukumo Gou, but the name didn't show up under any of the circle listings. Does he use another name for Comiket? Maybe I should check for Gou Tsukumo? If he has a website, could you toss the URL my way?
Oh, random bonus fact. Last year, the music section had Green Day doujinshi. This year, there seems to be greater interest in the Gorillaz. |

Well, we're only about 90c to the US dollar, so... :V It shouldn't be too far off from just sticking a decimal place two spaces in on the yen. XD
Hmm... They didn't mention it on their site, so I don't know if they're going to be there or not (same with Tsukumo Gou, too, come to think of it) but my favourite circle is 機械瓦礫 (http://licht19.nobody.jp/index.html). Can you see if they're going to be there? If not, I guess I'll just /r/ some Summon Night Ex Thesis doujinshi (the full title of the game is 「サモンナイトエクステーゼ ~夜明けの翼~」, if that helps any. ;A;), preferably involving Leon. :U
Thanks Rindi, for even considering doing this. :'D~<3 You're so nice. <3 |

Rindi~ it's probably rude of me to ask you to do this for me, but could you look for a particular doujinshi for me? (If you do find it, I'd be happy to reimburse you for it and the shipping. :0) It's for the same game Fayore listed, it's called "STAR PLATINUM" by the circle GINGUM.

5 bucks
100 Japanese yen is 1 Canadian buck sometimes, making it easier for us to calculate <3
and... for tsukumo gou, he might go by the name of 19gou, or BOX. It depends.

Okay you three, no problem. I'll take a look through my catalog when I get the chance.

Well... yeah. ^^; One of my minor tasks in life is to scanlate my Pop'n Music doujinshi for all three of the English-speaking Deuil fans out there. Not that I've been too productive on that end (I've finished two out of like, a dozen PnM doujin), but it's good practice for me, and it makes me really happy when people recognize the characters/enjoy the story. I mean, manga is great and all, but I love seeing other peoples' takes on the official stories... And in the case of PnM, or most other video games, there is no manga or anime at all, so it's fun to see when the fans create such works. And unlike with fanfic, most of which is horribly written and impossible for me to even approach, I can quickly flip through a few pages to see if the art is appealing to me. It's like owning an extended piece of fanart or illustrated fanfic. Heck, that's what doujinshi is.
Er, so that was a completely random tangent to get off on. Getting back on track here... After a bit of research, I found Brad's group of interest, but it looks like neither Fayore's nor Brian's preferred circles will be attending Comiket. The Summon Night fanbase actually seems to be pretty small... although not nearly as small as the Sonic fanbase. XD I think that since EX came out fairly recently, a lot of the SN circles haven't created EX-based books yet... but then, every circle gets a tiny spot to advertise in, so I'm sure there are plenty of options. I'll keep my eyes open. Brian, do you have anything else in mind that I should look out for? |

can you check again? as:

if that doesn't work... I could work with Yoshitoshi ABe's stuff. But he seems to be releasing sketch crap just to get money from his already humongous fanbase.
