i'm not sure what kind of tips you're looking for, but gouache is great, i use it quite a bit. just make sure you use enough but not too much water, you want it to be creamy and not too lumpy/watery. just takes some experimenting, thats all. I find that it comes out much nicer if you use more than one shade of a similar colour, and you dont even have to blend them all together. It looks so much better than using them straight out of the tube! Gouache is pretty kl, it comes out completely flat if you want it to. But you dont have to make it do that all the time, its good with some thickness too. Eventually you'll have your own ideas on what looks good and what works, it really is practice.
I dunno if anything i said made sense or was useful at all lol... hope that helped a bit :] |

Brian's great with Guache, I think he did a tutorial on it once. You may be able to use the search to turn it up.
I couldn't give you any tips, though, I absolutely hate the stuff. I fail utterly at it. _________________

I don't use gouache any more, mostly because it has dried (it lasted me a year and a half) and because I always use it with pastel. (I recently have a bad case of eczema which prevents me from touching it).
Use gouache like you would for acrylic paint on board, but remember that you can go over/the color changes when it dries. That's about all you need to do. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I don't know too much about gouache, but I do know a few things after I was forced to use them in an art class. If you like to create subtle shading effects like in oil, gouache is not the best choice. It dries too quickly for you to blend it on the surface you're painting. I like to blend my paint, so I was endlessly frustrated by using gouache.
And just to elaborate on what of_darkness_and_light said; if you make the gouache too thick, there's a chance that it might crack and flake off once it's dried. |
