What do you look for when choosing featured art?

I suppose this is more a question to the moderators. What do you guys look for when you're deciding what pictures become featured art ? I dearly want to become one of your featured artists.

They look for, overall, good skill. Are the pictures interesting? Is the anatomy good (unless, of course, the image is highly stylized)? Is the coloring solid? Is there a definite light source that the artist sticks to?

Brian also mentioned that he also looks for things that are both good, and also what the viewers would like (as opposed to his own personal tastes).

I dunno, this is what I know about how they choose. 8D

Are you talking about featured pic or featured artist? featured pic is chosen on overall skill used to create the picture, I've personally featured about 4, all of them not my style, but because I thought they were generally good at whatever they did. One was vector, one was traditional art, and two were CG, so the medium and how they look doesn't matter.

However, featured artist is different, we rotate and choose people by the month. I don't know who's turn it is for August, really. And I think what really matters is each sitehelpers' taste.

There is an article about the selection... somewhere... I'll go look for it.

Uhm, yeah, about that.
'Cuz that new featured pic by MrGreen... it's got skill, higher than most people.... but it's pretty simple shading there, and I don't see how that pic deserves to be a featured pic. I've seen better. Not to insult, but you also probably don't want little kiddies browsing MrGreen's gallery, as there's quite some nudity there.
Is there anywhere regular members could make suggestions? Maybe just, one or two each?? :/

If you're talking to me when you say that Stratadrake, I don't want to beg to be a featured artist. I want to earn it. I just want to know what my client wants.

One of the featured pictures of today is stolen. Is there any way for the people who decide on the featured pics to check in with each other to lessen the risk of a featured pic being stolen? Am I wrong when I believe that quite a few of the featured pics have in fact been stolen art? Sorry if I'm being incoherent. I've got a fever and need to go to bed. *goes to bed*

Removing said pic from features . . . actually, deleting submission outright.

That's the problem with art by some new members: we have to first make sure it isn't stolen or violating copyright.

Featured pics should be chosen by the quality of the [b]work[/b], but unfortunately good work is also the target for thieves.

On the one hand, Featured Artwork points comments/faves towards the things that really deserve them.

But, on the other, if we're not careful, we could end up promoting stolen artwork as well. (This has already happened twice.)

Then again, because featured art gets so much attention, this also means that if it turns out to be stolen, there will be more responsible users tracking down the originals, whichin turn means faster prosecution for the theft.

So in the end, it's a double-edged sword.
