2/4 Stars.

Reasons?

There were far too many special effects in this movie. It bogged down the plot, the acting and the characters themselves by over glorifying everything and making all the situations seem more ridiculous than they already were. The acting on the part of Orlando Bloom was--big surprise--sub par or barely even that, and Keira Knightley's originally somewhat cool character turns into a whining bitch who doesn't quite know what she really wants in her life.

Lame plot, great music, and incredible costuming.

But that was about it.

If you enjoy PotC movies, go ahead and see it. Just don't expect a lot from it.

Oh you should totally see it. Its a good summer movie just as long as you don't over analyze everything about it. Smile Its worth the popcorn money, especially if you have nothing else better to do in the summer. Besides, what else is out there to watch? Lady in the Water? Superman? That movie with the CGI talking cows? Ha! They're nothing against PotC.

This movie is the big summer hit to go to. I think you'll enjoy as long as you don't go in thinking too much about the plot. Just enjoy the crazy adventures, the captivating sword fights, and the never-ending antics of that bisexual, zany Captain Jack Sparrow. Surprised

No offense, but people like you irk me. Why do you go into a fantasy-based movie expecting the logical when everything about the movie is going to be unbelievable and so out-of-the-ordinary that the only thing you can do is just sit back and be taken into the fantasy that is PotC?

The last movie was about a pirate who went mad from heat stroke who teamed up with a comman blacksmith to save the noble girl from undead cursed pirates...who had an undead money too. Are you trying to say that this is any less ridiculous and over-the-top than the second?

I'm really tired of people saying that the plot is "too unbelievable" and "not real enough." The last movie wasn't any less "real" or "believable" but thats okay. That is what movies are all about. They take the ordinary and turn it into the extrodinary for our amusment and wonder.

Next time you want to watch a believable movie, go see John Tucker Must Die. If you want a fun adventure story, go see PotC.

Squid does make a good point afterall, if you liked the first PotC, then go see this. There's really nothing else wrong if you enjoy these types of movies.

I don't think Megan was saying that the fact it was unrealistic was what bugged her, I think it was that it was too unrealistic. It's like what I said about the first movie in a series setting the reality of the universe the movies take place in. Anything more over-the-top than the first movie will seem out of place.

In the first movie we accept that there are cursed zombie pirates sailing around the Carribbean islands. They have set the stage for magical fantasy creatures, so we can accept magical talking fishmen in the second movie.

In the first movie we accept that the physics of their reality is relaitively similar to our own. Other than the occasional generously high jump, most of the action in the first movie is akin to something that could feasibly happen in real life. The action in the sequel is over-the-top to the point of slapstick. At that point the film makers start to lose the audience because they're breaking their own established rules.

Just saying "Well it's fantasy!" isn't an excuse for the film makers to get as whacky as they want. If Jack Sparrow inexplicably started flying around and shooting lasers you wouldn't accept it just because it's fantasy.

Ah...That wasn't exactly what I meant--more or less, of course I expected fantasy. It is about dead pirates and whatnot. I'm fine with that.

What I'm NOT fine with is when the special effects overshadow the plot. Now that really bothers me. I'm here to see the acting. If there are special effects in it, perfectly fine, but they should be the background--not the foreground.

Agree. Well put.

the overall best part of the movie was the scene where davy jones is playing that massive organ because that is cool all the CGI moving al the tentacles and the music is quite good. but the twist at the end is good and eave syou wanting more in the next installment so i would give it a 8/10 for all of that
