Advertisements?

Forgive me if I have missed the memo, but I have begun to notice an irritating amount of advertisments not only on the side or the bar thing, but now also in comments. Random words are highlighted and blue and give an add link. Is there any way I can turn this off, and what is the reason for this?

The reason for them -- Like any other ads, is to make money.

Running FAC costs a lot of money and advertisments are needed to pay for it.

I am always looking for new ways to pay for the site in a not-too-annoying way. Those ads were initially on all pages, but have since been dropped to just a few places like picture descriptions/keywords, comments, and profiles.

I figured that. it seems I will simply have to learn how to deal with it. Its okay though, and I would rather have ads then see FAC die...
