My princaple is considering unblocking the site, she'd better
XD
Though does anyone but me actually like the new layout? I prefer it to the old one, the speeds are a pain but this layout really beats the old one _________________ "What can one spirit do in a world of evil souls?"

This layout is better. Well, I think what I prefer are all the new features, but this layout was all for the better.
The open space now for the pics is MUCH better, no longer forcing people to scrunch down their images to 600 for width. The comment system is easier too, seeing as to how it's embedded in the page instead of opening as a popup, which glitched for plenty of people.
I just honestly don't really care about the colors, and it is much gentler on the eyes. There'll probably be different layout skins for the picky.
But, you can still navigate around here pretty easily, so overall I think it's pretty good.
Oh, and blackbreeze:
Well, isn't that on the fault of the users, then? If they want less notifications from artists they're not interested in, they should take them out of the favorites list. Simple as that, right? D:
Not completely. I favorite artists and authors because I think they deserve it. I also enjoy looking through their galleries now and then, studying styles and techniques, and somesuch. I'm simply not interested in commenting on any new pics that arrive, nor always seeing them as soon as they come out, but I want to let those artists know that I respect them and that they're on my favs list.
But there are others, moreover my friends, who I like to keep in touch with, and I like to comment on particular artworks from certain people. So though I don't want the alerts gone, I don't want all the extra ones there either, is all.
I got mail after being away on a vacation for 11 days, and I had 600 emails. About 125 were ones to which I wanted to reply/comment to.
..Plus, deleting all my favs could take a while. _________________ |

Perhaps a good way to increase traffic or at leat stop the decrease would be more group/community activities?
I'm being real vague here I've no clue what you could do
but if more people got involved with others, more friendships and activites it would encourage people to stay
Competitions are good for that ^^ _________________ "What can one spirit do in a world of evil souls?"

I have been visiting the site about the same as always,
but the speed of the site is pretty annoying.
Also, I feel that changing the layout without informing any members [apart from Site Staff] was a mistake. In a business, if a change is going to take place the employees are one of the first to be inform and given all the information or you end up getting strikes and stuff because they knew nothing about it. Kinda the same situation, maybe not the problem though .

I try to go on FAC as much as I can, it's one of the only ways I have contact with my sister. And plus, I like the new layout. I like the colors and stuff. And it's really easy to navigate.
But school is an issue, so many people on FAC are like in middle school or high school, some are in college. So yeah. That's another reason.
Tokyopop, I think a lot of people joined that too. I have considered it, but I need to still think about it. Not so sure, you know? I don't need to worry about art theives, they wouldn't want my art. I don't have any CG'S, well, a few.
Some people left because of harsh comments, but they didn't know wether it would count as a flame. I left the site for a day after someone trashed my judging skills. So I just let them go. Looks like there's an Admin. that's already talked to her. But I honestly don't think she cared.
There's always DevianArt and SheezyArt.
I don't know, but personally, I haven't been on due to travel, harsh comments, and plain old fatigue. School does start up this early, especially in the South. I'm northeast, I still have 2 weeks of sweet freedom left. _________________ (>*-*)> <(*-*<)

Yeah, that was a pretty big bother. I mean, I kinda knew beforehand that a new layout would be coming SOON, but I was completely surprised when FAC was down, then came up with this layout.
Also, with the sudden ban of NC-17 pics, it was completely surprising and took me off-guard. I got over it later, but if you'd broken it to us more gently, perhaps it wouldn't have gone down so roughly.
And that could be why the traffic's also down.
I actually even considered quitting FAC when I learned no explicit pics/fics could be on.
But I stuck. _________________ |

I would have preferred a pre-emptive announcement too. But denis wanted the change to occur quietly and without fanfare . . . and once people sopke up about it, that was impossible so I made the announcement anyway. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Time for another batch of replies
This is why you should set up the option so users will only receive alerts from the artists they WANT it to be from.
Actually, further investigation suggests the profile pages are the main problem. However this feature will come in eventually as will notifications by PM.
It's been a bit difficult to read the comments under the pictures. The colors of the words and background are too alike. Maybe it's because of my browser. But if I want to read comments I always have to highlight the words to see them better.
The color contrast of the comments (and any other text on the site) is reasonably high and should be easy to read. You should adjust your monitor settings, your contrast and/or brightness are set too low.
Perhaps a good way to increase traffic or at leat stop the decrease would be more group/community activities?
We tried some of this with stuff like "Community Projects" but unfortionately there was never much participation.
Also, I feel that changing the layout without informing any members [apart from Site Staff] was a mistake.
I wanted it to be a suprise. Last time I did that, things turned out very well. Everyone was happy with the change. Unfortionately, this time it was a failure -- probebly becasue it was an even bigger change.
I got over it later, but if you'd broken it to us more gently, perhaps it wouldn't have gone down so roughly.
The ban wasn't as sudden as people think. Adult artists were sent an email mid last month, and another at the begining of this month so they have had plenty of time to deal with it. Also, the August newletter was planned to be sent mid-month rather than near the end of the month which would have allowed people more time to adjust. Unfortionately, various things delayed the newsletter.
Layout looks like DA
No it doesn't. It looks like every other art site out the. Most art sites use a nutral greyish color scheme and a box based layout is also very common in general. |

Is the speed of the site really a problem? For me, this layout is a lot faster than the last one.
But even if there was a warning as to a new layout would come out, I think the response would have still been the same. In other sites I go to, there are many people who complain constantly about the layout for ridiculous reasons [colors too boring, too bright, too much space, too little space, etc.]. In the end, I think everyone realized this was all for the better, and it works better too, in my opinion. |

Sorry to tell you Denis but the layout does look just like DA. But as you said all art sites really look like that.. But FAC's origanal layout was origanal, faster, and much better looking in my opinion. _________________ ruppyfag. |

I don't mind the layout, I'd just like to see a splash of color here and there, like how the gray forum skin has blue title bars. Simple to do in CSS, no changes to the actual page composition required.
You should adjust your monitor settings, your contrast and/or brightness are set too low.
Or your monitor could have a poor response curve on the low end (I know mine does, I have to compensate for that)
Also, I feel that changing the layout without informing any members [apart from Site Staff] was a mistake. You're right, the comparison breaks down. It's like trying to build a new building next to the old one without any of the customers noticing, until one night when they demolish the old one and open up the new one the next day, and make front page because of it.
An official preview image of the new site, or (dare I say it) a public beta preview as an option would probably have reduced the shock value. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

not any more, DA's grey went from cool grey to greyish green.
I <3 Greyish greens
back to the point... er, I stopped coming so often because of work, and the new format is slightly gloomy then before, maybe that's the sublime effect of it all. I don't really notice difference in speed. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I'm visiting less and less because the e-mails to flag when my work is commented on or when one of my favorite artists posts something new no longer come to my e-mail even though by every reason they should. |

I have not received any notificatios lately, either. E-mail is valid, notification options are on, my Hotmail settings are kosher, and this seems to have started only recently (in the past 3 days or so). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I am geting notifications for some things and not others, I get them for a comment where ever it may be but I did not get them fir the faves put on me or my pics, I do have them marked to send notification for them. I also have filters in place that put them directly into a folder for Fac and HF, and that filter is opperating corectly. _________________ RPG-n. I dont think faves notifications work at all (Think I didn't get around to programming them). All other should work.
Hermione13, its a feature of your hotmail account. Consult hotmail documentation. |

As I said on the first page already, I think that the most prevalent reason for low site traffic is just a lack of encouragement for members to "mingle" or make new friends. With the previous layout, people would easily see if someone they knew was online and then take the opportunity to chat w/ them some. Also, I seriously doubt anyone that has been on FAC since before the new layout (and whom likes to simply become friends w/ other artists) haven't at least once when they were bored, broused the list of currently active artists to see if their might be one that has a praticularly interesting username, and comment on their profile in an attempt to befriend them.
I say that the best way to solve this problem is to give users to choice as to whether they want to have all currently active members listed at the bottom or not.
I'm also trying to promote FAC around my school and on any other sites that I am a part of. Hopefully my plan will work and we might get some new members from it. _________________ If you've ever thought that the famous "Inu-Yasha" storyline was an OK anime, but could be a lot better w/ a little more violence, profanity, and sci-fi action, then you should check out the section of "Unreal Inu-Yasha!!!"
