Heh heh heh...that's just what she WANTS you to think...in reality, she is an uber-spellcaster who shoots bazooka-like blasts from that fragile-looking rod and calls down the forces of light to immolate her opponents. She does not concern herself with petty healing. (That's why they had Kratos ~.^)

To speak seriously, the only reason I don't think Martel was the healer with the staff is because...Colette wasn't. Kinda pathetic reasoning, I know, but usually the main female character is the spellcaster stuck with a staff, and ToS smashes that stereotype into pieces by not only not giving Colette a single healing spell (unless you count Sacrifice --.--) but making her a total buttkicking-fighter. Who throws hammers at people.

Hey, maybe that was Martel's weapon! A staff that magically transformed into a Pow Hammer Triple-DX. Heh heh heh heh... ^.^

I just find it funny, I guess Martel and Mithos could kinda be like Raine and Genis, one nagging on the other and the other one goofing off/getting himself into messes.

Well, see, you get these special randomization weapons, pretty much purely for humor. For example, if Presea's in the Little Madam outfit and she's got that pow hammer dx weapon, there's a random chance that her weapon will turn into a giant stuffed bunny.
For Zelos, it's Narcissist [sp >>;] and fafnir, and it'll turn into a bouquet of roses. ^_~

I think they're for everyone, but I forgot the others. ^^;
I should go look those up...

It's quite fun, but it's random so you'll have to be patient.

Yep, THAT was definitely something I didn't know! Usually I have Presea in Dream Traveler, not Little Madam, and I...well...don't use Zelos. Like...ever. >.> <.< I'll have to experiment with that when I'm trying to get Grade at the end of the game.

Presea? Better? No way. She's a great tanker with pure physical strength, but she's horribly slow no matter what, and she's pretty easily knocked down.
Zelos and Kratos are magic swordsmen, and they get both melee-style attacks as well as healing AND some attack magic. That makes them better. ^_~

But I do like Presea.

Regal? Unison attacks?? Oh my.

But Presea is totally better. She has over twice the range, so her slowness is somewhat compensated for, and if she's doing her job she shouldn't be getting knocked down at all.

Well, okay, so maybe the fact that I can't even stand to have Zelos on the battlefield has something to do with it too...

My favorite Unison Attack is probably Stardust Rain, just because it cracks the heck out of me to see enemies bombed with 112 stars that are all making squeaky-toy noises ^.^ Pow Hammers rock my socks :V-for-victory sign:

By the way, Trinity, I think the name you were looking for was "Arch Wind"...and it was a combination of Punishment and Hell Pyre... ^.^;

Well, Presea's range is okay for certain moves, but for others, it's rather crappy. Unless you hit directly, you could completley miss. Plus some of her longer moves [kinda like self-chained] tend to juggle opponents into bad positions so her continued move doesn't hit it.
My friend [I was FORCING her to play manual] couldn't hit a goddamned thing as Presea. >>;

SO chaining for her manually also seemed kind of pointless.

Y'know what I think is a big loss for ToS? It's too easy to level up.
I mean, everyone on your team gets equal experience. It's fun, but there's nothing special about anyone. I noticed this while playing new RPGs [in particular Magna Carta and Star Ocean 3] how only the people on your current battle team gain experience.
This way, you get to choose who you want to be stronger, even out your team on your own... it's much more interesting and makes you feel more in control of the game.

Also, the way moves are learned, through repeated use... it messes up, particularly if you carry over moves and counts... so you never know when to expect some new move to come in, which can be a pain, as opposed to moves learned by leveling up.

Hm... perhaps this isn't quite the best kind of way to talk in a ToS thread, but do yuo guys have any bad things to say about Symphonia? Well, not really bad, but things that coulda been better.

I for once would've liked being able to see more of the team chars. in cutscenes, instead of only the chibis and Lloyd and Colette.
Because you can't have enough Zelos.

I will suffer mental blowout and think I am Colette for the rest of my life. Which will be disturbing as hell for you and the whole rest of the galaxy ^.^

As for Presea...yeah, well, unless you really practice with her, she's just about impossible to use. I have practiced with her...not nearly enough. If it's not Infliction or Destruction, I can't hit with it. But I know it is possible. My friend's sister uses Presea with devastating effect, and that is what she does.

It's kind of like Colette. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll die. FAST.

Anything that could have been better in Symphonia? A lot of the costumes. Here were pretty much the only ones I liked:

Lloyd: Argh, Me Hearties
Colette: Maid
Genis: I actually liked all of Genis'. His were the best.
Kratos: HE NEEDED MORE COSTUMES. SPECIFICALLY A BATHING SUIT ONE. END OF STORY.
Raine: I didn't like any of hers.
Sheena: You Look Great!
Presea: Dream Traveler, First-Timer at Sea
Zelos: None of his, but not because I don't like Zelos. His formal suit (Narcissist) was great except for the braid, which looked stupid. His Masked Swordsman one was way too over-the-top and just looked ridiculous--had it been more Tuxedo-Maskish, I would have actually really liked it. And his bathing suit...normally I completely support beautiful men in Speedos, but Zelos in a purple Speedo just looked odd. Don't ask me why...
Regal: I HATED THEM ALL. I NEED TO REDRAW ALL OF HIS COSTUMES AND GIVE HIM SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY DOES HIM JUSTICE.

They needed more and better costumes.

As well, I wish there were more secret super-hard battles. The only battles in really the entire game that are at all a problem are the Sylphs and the exhibition match. Abyssion, despite the fact that he can do over 4000 damage, is really pretty easy. Long, but easy. Niflheim itself is more difficult than any of the enemies in it. Maxwell's not a problem either. They needed more enemies that could truly test your skills.

The fact was, since there were four of you, any enemy who came alone was easy pickings. The only difficult battles were those with multiple enemies--thus the difficulty of the Sylphs and the exhibition match.

I also think it would have been cool if ideas like Ranger's were in place for the Coliseum. I would have loved to play as Garr. Garr was hot ^.^

Garr was downright sexy. The Symphonia chibis do him no justice as to what he really looks like. Garr-luv.

But I'm so freakin' disappointed [if I spelled that wrong, ignore it blatantly] that I DIDN'T GET TO SEE REID. REID IS TEH BOMB. Zohmygod halter-top and short skirt thing [though, unfortunately, he had pants underneath ] But, my god, it woulda been awesome fighting him.
However, I do believe that he fights with his fists... I think? Or sword? Can't remember, but he is just, quite simply, awesome. And I can't believe he wasn't there.
Then again, Farah was pretty cool, but I kinda just thought Meredy was a pain.
You can't like her when she keeps casting Meteor storm on you, along with the time they used an hourglass on us. >>;

Actually, the Tales of Symphonia battle system was pretty cool, but yeah, with the people in it, you never really feel like you lose. I know, 'cuz I've NEVER gotten a game over in Tales. Just memory-card messups and blackouts.
But it's kinda almost boring and too-easy, y'know? I could stand in the back during a battle and it wouldn't change a thing. I could A-mash and it wouldn't make much of a difference from actually chaining out combos.
So, yeah. Coulda been better there.
I just find myself comparing it to Star Ocean, where I've already died, like, 4 times.
...About 3 times from Proclaimers: 6-winged angels that try to 'delete' you and cast off hellishly strong magic. >>;
And come in upgraded forms as you level up. ::shudder::

You're right about the costumes. I did find Lloyd's beach outfit funny though, eheheheh... ^^; Complete with flippers and snorkles. Too bad anime doesn't believe in ear-and-nose plugs. XD

Actually, the one thing I liked about Zelos' Narcissist [ignore me again] outfit WAS the braid. Well, it didn't look the best on the chibi, but I would love to see Zelos [non-polygon/chibi] with a braid.
Because braids are awesome. I wear one myself, all the time.
As well, I agree with the speedo. >>; It's not right on a half-chibi. But I do like the sunglasses. ::cheesy smile::
Zelos got the shittiest costumes though, honestly. Masked Swordsman was a gargantuan waste of effort and time. It was hideous.

I actually found a funny picture where Kratos had gotten the same swimsuit outfit as Zelos' [both swordsmen? Y'know?] and he was like, 'where's the rest of it?' XD
Wonder why he never wore.
Though, Kratos did get THE best alternte costume.

Presea and Genis both had pretty good outfits, mostly just because they're both so cute. I rather liked little Madam.

Sheena's were okay, but too revealing. For a chibi. My god.

Regal... yeah. His chibi overall sucked. The portait piece was fine, and his cutscenes in the opening movie. But his chibi was bad, expression messed up, and his outfits scared the living daylights outta me.
I had to actually manually ask for him during the beach thing to get his swimsuit [completing all costumes for us ] and did you see his skit?? It's so funny~! He got buried up to his shoulders in sand, and at first, he was all embaressed [once more, pretend you're blind], then he kind relaxed and said it was nice, and little hearts fluttered.

I think Lloyd bombed the Tales Awesome Heroes by being the most drab, boring, suspender-totin' hero ever. He's a nice guy and all, but stupid as a rock and with brown hair that jiggles when he's emotional, brown eyes, and stick-out ears.
Compare him to Reid. Or Garr.
Or Senel.

I've beaten ToS about 6 times now. I've gotten to the point where I can buy pretty much everything with my grade at the end of the game. Still...I think I need to challenge myself a bit more. Like instead of continuously buying the 10x more exp I should get the one where you get less.

There really aren't any characters in ToS that I hate. Well...besides Regal...hes just kinda scary! My sister seems to love him though because hes..erm..funny or something like that.

Presea isn't really that bad. It just depends on what kind of exspheres you equip on her. Like the one where she can avoid staggering and just continuing her attacks without being thrown back. As of now, shes my strongest character.

Despite the fact that Sheena has extreme clevage doesn't really stop me from liking her. She's pretty much my favorite female character to play along with Presea and if Im not playing one of them then its mostly Kratos =3

So yes! Its time for Mew-Mint to jump into this pretty little ToS thread and be a freakish fan like everyone else here! W00T!

I've got as much grade as you can have. ^_~
I should lower exp, but I'm too bored. We just fight all battles on Mania Mode instead, which can still mean that your chars can die in a few heavy hits with the raised attack of monsters. It's pretty interesting.

Ah, yes, anti-stagger. That's a life-saver. And, yeah, Presea in all our games always ended up with more attack than Lloyd. Go Presea. [Good titles are a must ]

I thought Garr's hair was kind of silvery...

Braids are awesome, but the problem with Zelos' was that the hair that was not in the braid was all weird and sticking-out-ish, and the braid itself didn't actually look attached to the rest of his hair. It made it look very bizarre.

By the way, if you think Sheena's walk is creepy, try this. I was walking in Zelos' room as all the different characters, just trying to see the different ways they all walked, and I realized that I WALK EXACTLY THE SAME WAY COLETTE DOES. We both do exactly the same thing--we put our toes down first, then our heel, then lift up the heel again and pick up our toes. It scared me. Badly. Colette is my favorite character and here I find out that I walk exactly the same way she does.

I don't run the same way she does, though (usually... >.> <.<)

And yes, I did see Regal's beach skit ^.^ Regal-luv ^.^ Especially 'cause he doesn't get enough of it ^.^

She's fast, and her summons are pretty good, but you can almost never use them when you need them and she does approximately zip damage unless she uses Pyre Seal, which knocks your enemies down and thus totally kills any combos you're trying to do. So, I'm not fond of Sheena as a fighter, although I like her personality.

Yup you're right Astri, Sheena's basically a hopeless battler. Though just slightly useful in melee.
Actually, I had Dark Seal on for a while, because for some reason, it kinda seemed to me that it gave her a higher chance on going overlimit, and once she she did, we snatched the seal off and let'er rip.
But that was few and far between.

I'm PRETTY sure Garr was from Tales of Rebirth. Kitties and goat anthros and whatnot.

Well, I know that when they came out in america, a lot of the title names got mixed around because the US is dumb like that. So apparently, he's from US Tales of Destiny.
However, I could be wrong. I find myself to be proved wrong very often now.
And it was japanese, but I'm pretty sure he was lumped in with Rebirth... ::rolls eyes:: wtvr.
I dunno, I mostly just saw some pretty fanarts of him, and his hair looked really light blue/tinted just faintly green [or it's just me :3] to me.
He's pretty anyway.
