So is that how they pronounce it ....

Adult Swim was running FLCL the other night (as the results of a sponsored contest).

What is UP with that show, anyway? It didn't really make any sense, yet somehow you get the impression that [b]that's not the point[/b].

It's like the Katamari Damacy of the anime genre. You don't watch it to explain or understand it, you just . . . [i]watch[/i] it.

The first thing that caught my attention was the reference to "Crystal Pepsi". That flavor of Pepsi hasn't been in stores in ages!

Then you have a mishmash of scenes, no two of which use the same visual style as each other. Flying electric guitars, a robot with a TV for a brain, random objects literally appearing from people's heads . . . .

The overemphasized eyebrows (the textures of which were actually scanned pics of Japanese seaweed), that one scene which very obviously imitated South Park's visual style....

What a trip. And that was from just three episodes.

Ya, not making sense is kinda the point.

The robot exists, because the director wanted a robot with a square head. The vespa is there because the director had one (The one seen in the closing credits). It's pretty much just random stuff thrown together.

As for pronouncination, Furi Kuri is the more accurate Japanese pronuncation.

I've seen it officially listed as "Fooly Cooly" - just so non-japanese speakers can figure out the pronounciation more easily. But that's a cool name, anyway.

I distinctly remember it being named like that because some band the director liked had a name that made no sense and rhymed like that... so he wanted a completely random name, too. And I believe part of why they made it so... [i]random[/i] was because since Evangelion was so devastatingly emo they wanted something more entertaining and fun. 8D

I should watch it again, haha.

I thought I read something about the director originally thinking that the title meant 'Fool and Cool', which was the feeling that he wanted the series to have. Or something like that. I can't remember. . . . .

Anyway, I like shows that make no sense but are still ridiculously fun to watch... And FLCL is right up there. Has anyone seen Dead Leaves? 8D

im not sure ehy but in my school in indy FLCL is the best and i think adult swim should put it back on for a week or two

No FLCL was one of my faviorte animes ever!!!you really have to understand the main character to get the whole series the little brother like sweet stuff no sour because little kids like sour things and he wants to act like an adult.Theyres alot more but im not saying it cause its gona take aaaaalooootttt of tybeing!

FLCL is a great show! I love it!

But I do have to agree, it doesn't make much sense.

As for the massive eyebrows that one guy has, they're fake. He wears them so she can't make things come out of his head anymore.

But you'd have to get further in the series before he explains.

But the plot is pretty twisted and hard to follow.

BUT, it's an anime. So of course this is expected. Well, for me anyways.

The show is weird, but funny and its kinda hard to follow sometimes

But I enjoyed the show,, I pity the guy that lives with her the stuff that comes out his head time to get an new housekeeper and the father is a perv. I feel sorry for the guy.
