Do you consider photography an art form?
For some time I considered photography not really an art form. About 6 months ago I got into this hobby, and as I learn about composition, exposure, lighting, F-stops, etc I started to realize on how other photographers consider this a form of art. As its nothing to do with taking a pencil or paint brush to make a master piece, but rather finding the picture first then take it. In away it's kind of an art form just a completely different way around it. As I find its not necessarily just point and shoot but rather finding that perfect moment in time where everything just seems right. And to take it a step farther one can crop, fix, edit to ones heart content to make that perfect photo. Though I can under stand and realize someone ales point of view if they consider this not an art form as its mostly the camera doing all the work but still its something to think about.
I like to hear your thoughts on this topic. |

Hmmm...I think so. I got friends who are required in their art classes to take photographs of what seems beautiful to them. I've seen some of the better photos(which received A's and A+'s) in our schools exhibit last month. They got sunsets, flowers, palm trees and all those sorts of things. The colors do tell a lot, too.
So, yeah. It is a form of art...for me. _________________ --Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas. But of a humble heart, the Lord wil not scorn, and from its abundance the mouth speaks.

I'd say it can and can't be.
I see a lot of artistic photography on dA and it's all high quality, clear, the lighting is perfect, and they seemed to catch the shot at just the right moment.
That's art.
Then on dA there's also a ton of people who take pictures of themselves at weird angles with hair in their face. I'm sure a lot of you Myspace whore know what I'm talking about.
Usually they aren't very good looking people to begin with, and they have their messy rooms in the background, god only knows where they were hanging the light and you wouldn't believe how much I hate those shots people take in the mirror with the flash reflecting. >.<
Then there's all the crappy outdoor photos with poor lighting and it's just a snapshot of that ugly weed growing in your backyard.
That my friends, is not art in my case. XP _________________ I R GRAMMAR NAZI.

It's definitely an art form when it's done right. I mean, it's not like any old snapshot can be art- but whne someone really takes the time to put thought int their photographs and uses interesting subjects and lighting techniques, well, how can you say that's not art? _________________ |
