So when you buy a new game, so do you fire right into it? Or do you sit and take the time to read the manual? Do you play through once and read it later? Or has its' pages never been seen by your eyes? Or do you do what I do and read it on the bus home?
Does it depend on length? Short manuals are no problem, but what if it's its own novel? 20 pages of backstory. Will you go through that?
Opinions people. |

I'll usually leap into the game, and the read the manual in the evening, when I'm done with the game for that day. I find them useful, with combo etc I probably didn't no or understand beforehand. |

Depends on the game. I got Magna Carta a while ago, and that game battle style confused the hell out of me. It was some weird mix of turn-based and real-time, confusing as hell. I had my friend scream out random pieces of information while I tried to hopelessly match the button-directions.
But now I got it.
Depends on how complicated the game is though, really. _________________ |

Me if im desparte Ill read the manul, but I just jumped into the game and it take me a while to to get to it, but once that I do Im a pretty quick learner, my brother thinks the bad-ass of all games, but I just tell him that Im presistence and Ill learn tricks and other things you see hes sneaky when It comes to video games always sniping me or usually with brute force, but as for me Im more of a tactics person, I learn the places for the good weapons and stuff and used the feild to my advantage, he does read the manul, Why? to find another way to kick my ass at something, but I usually find a way to beat him. _________________ -ANIME OUTCAST-

I usually read the character/story pages before I start a new game. Other than that, though, I tend to just play the game - most have ingame tutorials anyway, if I ever need the extra help. |

For computer games, I tend to read the manual obsessively because I'm kind of OCD about knowing how a game works. For my Japanese games... well, I read the manual if it has furigana. Otherwise, I don't bother, even though my kanji recognition is somewhat decent. |

Depends on the difficulties of the game. When it comes to games like Final Fantasy I read the first manual on the first game I got and all the others I just dive into the main game. Usually if I get stuck or get really confused I look at the manual then.
If I like the game more than others I read certain parts before starting the actual game. _________________ http://www.fanart-central.net/profile-Kes.php- Profile.

If its a game i'm excited about? I generally throw it away while i'm furiously ripping through the package. If its a game that i'm not so excited for? I usually read through it for a second. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

I do tend to have a look at the manual, especially if it's got some story in it, as I like to read that. I look at the manual for the basic controls of the game and go from there. I sometimes use a manual for reference images for drawings, like in Guilty Gear X2 for the PS2, there's some nice art of the characters, and so I can use that for when I'm drawing. Manuals can be quite useful, but other times they can be pretty useless. _________________ Hello!! |

I like to sniff the manual pages.
Then I read it.
For the most part though, I don't read it since there's usually an in-game tutorial at hand. A fine example of such would be the in-game tutorial for FFT.
Lengthy as it is... |

read the manual? Ha! You make me laugh! I hardly ever read the manual. You can pretty much guess wich buttons do what or I just play the in-game tutorial. Half of 'em are full of Engrish anyways. If I do read the manual I do so on the potty. _________________ I have magical female powers

Never really read the manuals at all, though I do hold onto them for character art. _________________

Yeah. Some manuals do have some pretty sweet arts in them. _________________ I have magical female powers

I would do that, but for some reason, manuals seem to seriously lack character art. :/
I end up getting guidebooks or artbooks [in the case of Magna Carta 8D] to scan out of or going online to find the character art instead. :/ _________________ |

I play the game till I get stuck, then I go online looking for walkthroughs. I only open the manual to look at the pretty pictures, or if its an anime game, to look at the credits to see who the voice cast is. _________________ |
