Yes, it is as great as the hype behind it says it is. Possibly even better. Personally, I think the critics didn't do near enough justice in describing how powerful, moving and stunning this movie really is.

The plot is captivating, with constant twists and turn to complicate situations to keep both the characters and the audience on t he edge of their seats.

Acting is phenomenal. I believe that Jack Nicholson is at his best when he's playing crazy and crazy he plays in this. Its wonderful. He has some lines that will make you laugh even when a guy is getting shot in the head POW style. Leo is great. Whoever says that he's overrated as an actor needs to watch The Departed because this was his best role yet. His vunerability is so heartbreaking and throughout the movie you might even find yourself cheering Leo on as he just tries to survive. He's someone you want to see win. That doesn't happen very often in movies.

Usually when I see a movie, I'm very indifferent about what happens next, I could care less what happens to the protagonist usually. I didn't feel that way in The Departed. I wanted Leo to win so badly. His desperation become my desperation, his fear become mine and his tears were even shared with my tears as we both weeped for an outcome that seemed tragically inevitable.

Matt Damon is excellent. Plays an asshole really well and I couldn't wait to see him die. It was like the entire time you watch with this mindset of "Leo needs to survive and Matt needs to get shot in the head." Its great. I felt like such a resentment toward his character, it was like nothing I've ever felt before.

Cinematography was done splendid. Scorsase is back and better than ever! Never has a gunshot struck me as something that could rattle my world and send me into a state of utter shock but that was the typical reaction to expect in this movie. The deaths range from as insignifigant as being the butt of a joke by Nicholson to as personal as leaving you feeling like you lost a very dear friend.

Music was great too. I love Irish rock now. It was so appropriate for a lot of scenes and it will just get your adrenaline pumped because you knew that when it played, some nasty shit was going to go down.

Excellent, truely masterful fliming done at its best. I see Oscar nominations for this movie in just about every aspect it can qualify for. Expect Nicholson to recieve a nomination for Best Supporting Actor and Leo to recieve Best Actor.

I apologize for the long review. I just got so into this movie that I want to let everyoe know how great this movie is and maybe even inspire a few to get out of the house and see it. Smile Has anyone else seen it yet? Let me hear your opinions on it no matter how big or small. I want to see some discussion here. Wink

Alas, no I have not seen it, but I did see the Japanese version from which it was originally written. The plot really got me, dragged me in, but I just can't persuade anyone to let an underage into the movie. Of course, I could sneak in but that doesn't work.

So, in lieu of that, I'll ask you some questions:

How much better do you think DeCaprio (sp)'s acting has gotten since "The Aviator", and why? I know it's a trick question, but I'm nevertheless interested and, also: what makes his character so good? I myself have never really found his acting good--in fact, I generally find it overrated--but for some reason, I'm willing to see this be it his acting is up to the bat. What do you think of it?

I f*cking hate Matt Damon so when Leo and him went to go outta the elevator near the end I was pissed off. I'm no Leo fan. I used to be overly obsessed with him so now when i watch his movies I just feel creepy and weird.. but I actually liked his character in this movie. And his acting wasn't even that bad. I would say it's probably the best acting he's done since critters 3 Wink

F*ck this movie. It pissed me off. And Leo got naked? I saw upper body .. that was bout it. I was just weired out by how much his body has changed since The Basketball Diaries.

Oh and in many of his movies, DiCaprio overacts. At least that is what it seems to me. Off camera he also has this really arrogant way about him.. pisses me off.
